    in the ferry

The ferry is the only way to move about the islands over here in South Thailand. I quite enjoyed the rides, mostly choosing to sit on the sundeck on top of the ferry. However, when the sun gets too hot, I run downstairs to the comforts of the air conditioning !

    Dirt roads @ Dec 2003

Roads in Ko Lanta is pretty bad. Around Saladan, the roads are tarred but after 3-4 km out, it starts to get bad and non-tarred. Its DIRT ROAD, baby !!

So, make sure you have something to cover your eyes (sunglasses are a good option) and nose (your hand, perhaps ?) when on the road.

However, sitting in a tuk tuk, breathing in all the dirt and having a bumpy ride (you have to hang on tight to the vehicle) is quite an experience !

We rented a motorcycle to do a little bit of traveling on this island. It worked out well except for the fact the all the roads are dirt and by the time you get to your final destination, your mouth is full of the stuff. blah

    From the mainland

    by deeper_blue Written Mar 4, 2012

Getting onto the island is best done from Krabi, from there you have to take two car ferries to get to Lanta Yai, buses are easy enough to book from Krabi. It's a 70km trip.

To get to Koh Lanta you can take the plane to Krabi airport and from there a taxi... But you have to cross the sea by a car ferry two times.....
