Food Stalls along the beach
Favorite thing: Pretty much every night in Haad Rin there is some sort of party going on....along with the party and the people come the thais looking to make money....selling buckets, drinks, body paint and food.
This is an example of a beachside stall with lots of variety....I guess you have to be a bit careful with this stuff but we did (on occassion) have a little nibbly along the way. Lots of selection, some things youll recognize, others you wont....cost ranging from 5-20Baht....get them to heat up as well.....not the greatest at all but can fill a quick hunger on the go in about 30 seconds. Be careful what you choose but dont be to to affraid.....Im still here!

Wear your shoes!
Favorite thing: Best practice: Wear your shoes where ever and when ever you can....even on the beache there can be some broken glass and sharp objects....obviously, at night it is even more important...your only one step away from a crappy evening looking (and paying) for a doctor to stich you up....there no glory in being the barefoot guy walking around.
Note: this does not include going into a restaurant or store - where customs take over and sandals are left outside.
Fondest memory: The hitch loosing his mind and his shoes at the full moon party.....he actually spent a few days as the barefoot backpaker....lucky him!

Chicken Corner..the Koh San of KPG.
Favorite thing: Chicken Corner is a great place to start off if you’re not to sure where exactly you want to go....there are many transportation options - boat or taxi. You can also sort yourself out with a place to stay for the first night. In addition it is a good meeting point if your trying to hook up with some friends for the evening...its a small cross road of two streets right off the beach...there are three restaurants on the corner with the fourth being an internet cafe/laundry service. A great place for a meal and to people watch...also, food open late into the early hours of the morning.
Fondest memory: 1)Falling out of the restaurant from taking a step backwards and missing the step I didnt know was there....I was up fast though....cut my toe in the process and five minutes after leaving the restaurant, got an accidental cig burn in my forehead from some guy talking with his hands....at that point it was time to go...the next day the hitch and I split the island.
2)Hanging with Amy and the two aussies on the afternoon of NYE with no place to stay....took turns checking out places...finally found a bungalow - the last one - turned out to be the worst place ever (see:accom tips).
3)Amy and I around 3 in the morning on New Years watching people go by....what type of shake was that we had around 10pm?

Haad Rin Beach
Favorite thing: Report of the bech being an absolute filth pit during the full moon parties (which they are without a doubt)....they do clean up..and between the bashes it can be an ok place to tan, play volleyball and hang out. It can get quite busy at times.
Go see for yourself and stay for a bit if its your thing. As well you can take a day trip to another beach or up to tong sala for the day for a change of scenery.

Favorite thing: Koh Phangan can be be crazy around the Full Moon but it gets quite laid back directly afterwards which gives you a good chance to just chill out on a beautiful tropical beach. Other beach destinations in Thailand have more going for them in ways of infrastructure and ease of travel etc. but one thing that KPG and especially Had Rin has above all the others is babes on the beach. Take a walk along the beach in the week or so before the FMP and you will see what im talking about.
Fondest memory: All my memories of Ko Phangan are good ones i spent almost a year there over a space of about 18 months and i would go back there in the morning.
make friends with the stray dogs
Favorite thing: I am a total animal person, so I loved the dogs all over the place. they are actually treated pretty well for being nuicences to the bungalow operations. We made a lot of animal pals here. if you see any of my pals, give em a pat on the head for me!
Hot sun and a lot of water
Favorite thing: While exploring the island you must not forget to dring a lot of water and since the sun is very hot be aware that sunburns are common problems tourists are having ...
I was aware of that and had no problems about it. I was enyoing in food, water, nature and beaches ...
- School Holidays
Favorite thing: Well, Ko Phangan has also lovely beaches! And I enjoyed them very much after 10 days of silence!
The beaches are white and sandy. There is also Hat Rin Beach, where the famous fullmoon-parties are held.

Thong Nai Pan Noi
Favorite thing: This would have to be the most beautiful little beach resort I have ever been to.
It has great little bungalo's along the beach (Baan Panburi) unde rthe coconut tree's.
Thong Nai Pan Noi has superb fresh seafood restaurants with tables on the beach of a night time and a couple of laid back places to party of a night.
The beach is enclosed on three sides by mountains and you either gat a very rough trip there by songtow taxi or you can get a taxi boat to Haad Rin.
Fondest memory: My favorite memory of this place was relaxing in the small pool near our bungalo looking out at the most perfect beach while sipping on a cold beer.
- Sailing and Boating
Favorite thing: the highlight of my trip to phangan would have to be trekking through the jungle with no guide. i recomend u try it, a friend and i had no clue as to were we were heading but we just thought we'd drive up the mountain on our 250cc dirtbikes and explore. we eventuly stopped next to a durian tree as ben nearly went over the handle bars from tackling the dangerous roadsthen had a nice smoke and a taste of a not yet ripe durian fruit.headed into the jungle on foot. it was so peacfull, all u could hear was birds and insects and we ended up seeing a camen in a small lake and an moniter lizard of about 5 foot in lengh wich was an awesome sight.
it was funny because we got to a small hut, wich was about 15 m infront and we saw these 2 dogs outside with nobody in sight. they caught eye on us first and started to bark and the only way past them was to walk straight past em. anyway we were sketching out so we both had sticks in our hands just incase then made our way towards them. in the end they both ran up to us and started to attack, defending their teritory, weimediatly ran past them and i got bit on the arm, nothing more than a few stitches and a rabies shot. we both had the sticks incase we got attacked but we didint use them.
still it was a hell of an experiance.
Fondest memory: the freedom of being solo travler, to be able to do what u want, when u want and how u want is what i miss and the sketchy bike rides to hadd rin with dogs chasing u. just there is a few dodgy people out there. does anybody know a big, fat, scottish man who lives on the island??? on the night of the black moon party in the jungle i met these girls and one was very drunk. i thought to myself i'll try and help her get sobberd up and then all off a sudden this big scottish bloke walked over to me, headbutted me to the ground and said if i lay another finger on his daughter he'll have me shot by local thais. naturally i was sorry to him and agreed to stay away.
if anybody does know him i would like it if u could tell me who he is, we cant have people like that trying to ruin our holidays.
Haad Than Sadet
Favorite thing: This beach is only quite small in length but with the steep hills climbing out of the water on each side it is probably the most beautiful.
There are bungalo's all the way up one side which would have the most fantastic views , I'm sure.
We only stayed here for a couple of drinks and a swim because we wanted to push on to Thong Nai Pan for the afternoon.
Fondest memory: If I ever wanted to go somewhere for a quiet romantic type of holiday then this would be my choice for sure.
This is possibly the most beautiful and quiet little place in all of Koh Phangan.
The water is quite deep here in some places, and it is very refreshing to swim in here.

If you hear a funny noise.....
Favorite thing: if you hear strange noised in the early morning... it might be a gecko! We had a really big one in our bathroom. they are really neat looking... don't be scared, they eat all of the bugs that you don't like.
Ko Phangan Meditation Retreat
Favorite thing: Try a meditation retreat! I did it out of curiosity. When I heard about this temple on Ko Phangan, I went there and it was great!
Never ever thought that I could stand 10 days without talking to anybody! My friends still don't believe it! But I did it again in south of Germany in 1997.
This picture shows the meditation hall. I am sitting in the back, left side!

Go to the Full Moon Party in...
Favorite thing: Go to the Full Moon Party in Koh Phan Ngan! It a helluva party, and not only for that night. Every night is partynight! But the downside is lots of drugs, rape and stealing. Stay around people you know, don't do drugs and don't get too drunk to think clearly. Easy to say...
