    BUCKETS: Enjoy one or two.....MAX!

by LakeFever Written Jun 27, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The famous BUCKETS are everywhere on the island...no place more prevalent than Hadd Rin on any given party evening. Each bucket includes a Micky (or little smaller) bottle of spirits...a bottle of red bull and a mix of coke or sprite. You can choose your ingredients...all for 150 baht or $4.50 Canadian.....served with a bunch of straws as they are meant to carry around and share with friends....very competitive prices on Hadd Rin....significantly more expensive buying from a bar on the island....get creative and buy the ingredients at the store...better yet, throw a party!

    Dress Code: Maybe a bib....or a wheelchair!

    Beach: Beach party

    by diamond_dog Updated Apr 1, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

At night every soul on Had Rin goes to the beach to drink voldka buckets drop pills and generaly party. Theres no 2AM closure here like the rest of Thailand, the party is over when the sun rises and thats just because most people are to wrecked to go on.
There are about 15 bars on the beach. There is a big mix of music also from cheesy disco classics in the Cactus and Drop In bar to the hard techno in the Zoom and Vynil Club.
The whole night scene can go dead after Full Moon and will only really fill up about 2 weeks before the next one. The week before the Full Moon is actually better than the night itself according to a lot people who i disagree with.

    Dress Code: dress code, c'mon!!
Most people will wear sandals incase they stand on broken glass but i used never bother because i used always loose them and come home with someone elses. Anyway i never cut my feet, except that 1 time i got bitten by a dog, i think ive gone off the point here but you get the message.

    Fire juggular.

Beers are around 40 - 50 baht (around 65p). Buckets are sold for around 150 baht and have loads of thai whisky in them, great value!

i went to a psytrance party in the middle of the week, supposedly up a waterfall but there's only like a trickle of water. the place is suitable for the most hardcore ravers.

there's UV paints all over, cool air (cos we're quite high up the hill) and similar crowd...

it went on till mid morning.

    Cactus Bar: Cactus Bar

by Armado Written Apr 17, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This was my favourite bar on the island...nice music ( mix of hip hop, rock and rnb ) nice people and a nice ambiance!

TIP: This is quite a naughty tip ;) Everybody knows, beer is quite expensive in Thailand compared to other things....

Next to the cactus bar you find a small supermarket....if you need a refill of your beer, a way cheaper bottle of water or a coke...walk out of the cactus bar and go into that supermarket...beer, water and soda's are cheaper there ;) Just don't let the staff see you....we found out about this cuz we are always living on a shoestring right?

Dress Code: Walk in in your swimming pants, no one cares!!!

on the Beach: Black Moon Party

by Armado Written Apr 17, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Okay so everybody is always talking about the Full Moon Party, but did you know about the black moon party???

People say it's even better and more exclusive than the FMP, because it's less crowded and on a different beach than the FMP. As you can tell from the name, it's held when there is no moon at all, so it's gonna be pretty dark :)

We've been to the BMP and not to the FMP so I can't really compare them, but the BMP was so great! starts at 6pm ends at 6pm...dance on a quiet beach under the stars and many blacklight decorations, cheap drinks...a real acid ambiance...this is what every beach party should be like....I can talk about it for hours probably, you just have to experience it...

TIP1: You must be into Acid/Techno/GOA music to enjoy yourself!

TIP2: Entrance fee is only 200 baht!!!!!!

Dress Code: Dress like a hippie, Dress as a beach boy/girl, go without a dress.....it just doesn't matter....

    Haad Rin Beach: Full Moon

by alvis Updated Feb 18, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

These days every night is full moon night, with Haad Rin beach all the night clubs and people buzzing all night long.

The full moon night maybe a bit more special but every night is a party night in Ko Phangan. Night clubs all along Haad Rin playing all sorts of music each club specialising in its own sounds as you walk along the beach.
Hard house, hip hop, R & B, techno, progressive and funky house even drum and base and some old hardcore you will find it all.

The poi shows are a big attraction where people dance about swinging and throwing flames around.

2 of the most memorable offers from the full moon parties were:
"Ecstacy, Cocaine" and "You want me to suck your ****, you want me to make you ***"

Expect anything to happen its a bit of a freak show.

    Everywhere: Buckets

by alvis Written Feb 7, 2005

The famous drink of Thailand a must have in Ko Phangan or anywhere that sells drink.

The bucket is a mix of 1 tin coca-cola (usually coke but can get sprite etc.) , 1 tin red bull, and 1/2 bottle of Sangsom (Thai rum aka Mekhong). All this mixed together in a bucket of ice. Costs around 150 baht per bucket but 3 and you're sure to be drunk and its quite delish.

You can buy them on the beach or local shops all over Phangan I would always get a make shift bucket as shown in the photo before i go to the beach for a party.

Never been to the Full Moon Party?????

by supabenji Written Oct 15, 2004

First, forget their speed boat deals to get to Phangan. It's better to get there in the afternoon so you can chill on the beach, playing beach volley and getting started for the Big Night. At 8pm, take a bucket and enjoy your drink, you sit on a carpet on the beach, people are still having their dinner. 2h later, the beach is crowded with all the party people and you won't do nothing about it. Enjoy because music (good music for Hip Hop heads, Techno heads and so). The party will take place till noon so i give you piece of advice: don't drink too fast!!!!

    Full Moon Party: FMP

by dodgbowski Written Mar 27, 2004

Full Moon Party. I know it, and you know it. If you've never been, you have to go once. Consistently rated as one of the top ten parties IN THE WORLD, it is a monthly event in Koh Phangan. Go there, have a few buckets(or 6 or 8) and go dance till the sun rises. Just be sure not to buy drugs from anyone YOU dont know personally. Its very sketchy.

    Pirates Bar: west Koh Phangan

by dodgbowski Written Mar 27, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a place where I just discovered on my third to last day in Phangan. It is perhaps one of the coolest bars in Phangan, imo. Its in the shape of a pirate ship, complete with flags all over the place. Its a nice sit down kind of place that has great upbeat music pumping(not deafening) off to the side. The 'dance floor' is the sand of the ocean. At high tide, the only way to get there is to walk around on a plank of sorts to avoid getting soaked. If I go back to Phangan, Ill definately be back there.

Dress Code: umm, wear something? probably the only dresscode and Im sure its negotiable too.

Full Moon Parties: Full Moon Madness

    by Jez79 Updated Nov 23, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

One of the main reasons thousands of people flock to Ko Pha Ngan is for the Full Moon Parties, held every month on the full moon. The party is held on Had Rin beach. The beachfront is lined with restaurants and bars, and with the addition of huge speakers and pumping sounds systems, the beach becomes a huge outdoor nightclub. Early in the evening there are tables and mats along the beach for people to have a quiet drink at dusk. By 10pm the beach is packed with thousands of people sharing "buckets of joy" and dancing their hearts out. Amid the fire twirlers, glowing tattoo's and flashing paraphenalia sold by the locals, you can find a bar cranking music that you fancy (anything from trance to Kylie Minogue to Eminem and everything between). By 5am there are a lot of bodies passed out around the beach but the party is still cranking. At midday the next day, the beach is littered with debris, of the human and rubbish form, and there are still a few people carrying on the party.

We had a fantastic time at the FMP, but if you're after a quiet night out, it's probably best to avoid Had Rin in the days around the full moon.

    Some tips:
    - check the date of the full moon party as there is sometimes a Buddhist holiday on the actual day of the full moon, so the party is the day after. There is a website that lists all the dates.
    - There are limited toilets at Had Rin, and every business owner charges at least 10 Baht for use of their facilities. As the night goes on, the ocean becomes a communal toilet (eww).
    - There are bars all along the beach selling alcohol. One of the novelty drinks are the "buckets of joy", made up of a bucket of ice, straws, coke, red bull and Sang Song, a Thai whiskey.
    - Be aware drugs illegal and if caught you face large fines. There are also road blocks along the way to Had Rin where police search everyone in the vehicle. It is also common for people to require hospitalisation (for Psych issues mostly) after using at the party.

Dress Code: Whatever takes your fancy!!! Shoes are recommended, as there can be glass in the sand. I know of someone who cut his foot at the FMP and spent a few days in hospital. Nasty way to spend your holiday! It's also advisable to leave valuables at home (or in one of the lockers around Had Rin).
