Prapai Seafood, Thong-Sala: Don't Miss The Fresh Seafood!

Just off the main street in Thong-sala they have every night a square where all the food vendors set up there various food carts and stalls.
Each vendor has thier own section of outdoor chairs and tables for thier own customers.
You can buy your food fresh and they cook it for you right there while you wait ..or in my case drink.
You can get everything at this food square from spicey Thai food to fried chicken and of coarse fresh seafood.
One particular vendor stood out to me as better, fresher ,and cleaner than all the rest and that was "Prapai Seafood"

Favorite Dish: You can choose here from a variety of fresh fish.
They have Red and white snapper as well as a fish they call "Kampong' and another they call "Saba" which I'm not sure what thier English name is.
There is also Mussels and Prawns and a variety of fresh vegtables as well.
Very fresh very tasty and quite cheap.
I had BBQ snapper several times from here (both Red and White) and it was always very tasty.

Someone we met told us we had to take a look in the Dolphon restaurant. We had walked down to the end of the beach a couple times but never really noticed....when we went in through the apron of leaves and trees there was a little uptopian restaurant, lounge, and bungalow resort....very small really, but the sitting areas were unique and well kept....say 5 or 6 different little areas you could sit, chill, eat and drink....the place in run by a european lady...scanidinavian maybe...thai husband....cute little son running here and there. Menu had a good mix of healthy hearty items including antipast, pasta, sandwiches and stir frys....we had a couple shakes for flavour which were very good as well....we wanted to go back another time but never got the chance....Nice for a mid day snack....food service closes at 2 or 3pm I think.

Favorite Dish: A mint energy shake...refreshing!
    Crushed mint leaves too!

Dreamland Resort evening BBQ: BBQ...right on!

Praws as big as lobster tails!

Great food! Dreamland had a decent evening BBQ....simply select the fish, seafood or meat...add corn or baked potato as well....real good. We would order 15 or 20 minutes before sitting down at the restaurant and then go over when ready....add on menu items as well...all in all pretty inexpensive...well more than an order of pad thai but cheap none the less.....ate the BBQ almost every night.

Favorite Dish: The Chicken (if you can believe it) was a fav...the white snapper good to, and of course the prawns....80-100 baht ea.
Enjoy with a Singha or a SPY cooler (Amy choice)

Service has always been less than average but the food makes up for it. As cliche as it is to go to Thailand and eat pizza, sometimes you just need something your stomach is familiar with....the pizza here was awesome...thin crust and many different varieties. You can catch the tube or people watch on the lane way.

Favorite Dish: Pizza ...decent shakes and lemon juice.

Healthy and generally tasty but most expensive in the area ... when the indian buffet dinners are offered they are a good deal ...

Favorite Dish: These energy balls are a must ... and the vegetarian chocolate is really good too (much better than their other chocolate cakes ... scones are good ... they also have a refreshing drink of ginger and lemon (?)

i wasnt that impressed with the savory items ... except the fresh spring rolls, and the spring rolls with seaweed ... those are worth trying ...

Som's: If they dont have it, they'll get it

by errnprincess Updated Oct 31, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Som's was great! I tried Shark for the first time, it was really good. They had wonderful fresh fruitsmoothies. My cousin ordered something, I forget what it was now. But about 1/2 hour after we ordered, the owners husband rode up on a motorcycle....He had a couple items needed for our order with him. If they don't have it, they'll get it for you....No questions asked. They are extremely slow, but hey who cares. Enjoy the scenery, and pet there dogs that are lying at your feet.

Favorite Dish: It was all good!

don't think it has a name: floating retaurant

Where the boats come in you can get a free boat out to a restaurant/bar thats in the middle of the sea, Thats just floating out there. It was great. The boat to it is goes from the main pint you enter the island, haad rin i think.
Very chilled and the food was very tasty. They have a hole in the floor that they showed us which had a net in the water to catch food so if you liked some seafood you can pick one from the hole and theres your dinner.
    Brilliant and very peaceful.
You can kind of see it in the picture.

    The Waitress is a Blackbird!

by Bradut Updated Sep 1, 2005

The owner and his family are serving and cooking for guests. They do not speak English, but they will offer you a piece of paper and a pencil, so you can put down your desired dish.

The most extraordinary thing ever is that a few seconds after we sat down, someone started asking us something in Thai...and kept talking and talking, just like she was the waitress and she wanted to take our order. It was a beautiful blackbird, who was speaking just like humans.

The rain started soon and we had to cover the terrace with a tarpaulin. The blackbird went crazy, very sad and mad that she could not have looked at us anymore. She started screaming and twitting loudly and the owner told us that she was saying in Thai: "DON'T EAT WITHOUT ME!"

Favorite Dish: We went many times here and the best dish was white or red grilled snapper with garlic and pepper. Really tasty! Baked potatoes are also great!
The fish is so tasty, that it ws not only me eating, but also the flies, the dogs and that blackbird I had told you about, who were hovering about me all the time.

    Eden: EDEN

Another Delicious restaurant. interesting experience here. we sit down and order our meal from a man that seems to have a slight mental disorder (turns out hes normal, just seems strange) anyway, we order and they have to actually go to the market and buy a lot of the ingredients so we're not so sure anymore, but we stick around, we're in no big hurry anyway... this isn't your typical bustling city... get-in-a-car-drive-to-store-to-buy-groceries, I mean they buy their groceries from the little cart across the dirt road, BUT they had to go to the store 3 seperate times because they realised they were missing three different ingredients at 3 different intervals. So it was a little weird wondering how long we were ACTUALLY going to have to wait for our food.
    Anyway

I ordered fried rice and it was absolutely amazing. Ive never had fried rice so good in my LIFE. GO.

Favorite Dish: fried rice vegetable or shrimp
