Its the best way to see the island, infact it was the only way for us as we were staying iin such a remote part. You just fly about and check everywhere out, but be careful, as the driving is crazy and crashes, and fatalities are unfortunatel commonplace
Thai boxing for a night out is a fun thing to do at least once during your visit to Thailand....the quality of venues varies big time....often the arenas are nothing more than a suspect ring and some semblance of a fence.....most if not all of these are not worth the money.....around 500baht to get in plus food and beer....although I prob wouldn’t eat the food from a vendor here.....save your boxing experience to a more established place which hosts events once a week...if you have to go while on the island (and I have a few times)....visit Tong Sala....it always makes for a good night out with the right people. The picture here is an example of what a suspect boxing place looks during the day...encountered this on a hike.
They sell these trips all over the island....the most variety Ive seen is from the Chikcen corner in Haad Rin...there must be 4 or 5 different tours. They usualy run from 11am-5pm. Transportation by boat, snorkel, swim, lunch, etc....400-600 baht.. You meet tons of people too, just make sure you go on a real sunny day.....choose one that goes to koh ma to snorkel....thats the best place around the island.
Note: there is a tour called the munchies tour and another called the reggae tour.....both include smoke, if thats your thing. From what I understand its quite the gong show....they dont stop! hahaha.
You can walk from beach to beach via the shoreline....there is a ritz resort you have to go through but that hasnt been a problem anytime Ive passed....there is one section (10 ft wide) where you either have to get wet crossing (depending on the tide) or get the guy from the resort to float you across on a kayak you across - a service they provide their guest and assimilating trespassers. Both beaches are a little different in feel and its fun to hang out on either side from time to time......on the way back you can go via back road connecting the two...its pretty steep and a bit further than you would think but its not that bad when all is said and done. Be very cautious of dogs.....growling ones might come near you...just keep walking...they are territorial but generally wont attack if you stay your course on the road. Time to walk between the beaches is approx 45 mins each way. Note: I would walk back before dark…any sort of taxi between is hard to find.
Well there's not much point writing about the Full Moon Party in great detail because thats probaly been done to death on these pages and every guide book but i will give you these 10 tips from my vast untapped knowledge of them.
1: Full Moon partys are brilliant.
2: If taking pills, dont drop till around 3AM coz then youve got more of the morning to enjoy them.
3: The morning is the best part of the night., if you know what i mean.
4: If buying pills dont buy them off any Thai guys who are wearing a unifrom and carrying guns
5: The best bar is the Zoom Bar at around 5AM till 11AM
6: Dont believe anyone who tells you that backyard is the place to be the next day, you will probaly regret it.
7: Avoid the temptation to buy the DVDs of the party that are on sale the next day. Altough you think you were the coolest thing on the whole beach you were dancing like a turkey. do you want your friends and family to see this.
8: Chemists on the island can be known to sell plenty of things to help you come down after a party of this magnitude. if you need to be told what then you probaly should not be taking them.
9: Dont be a complete prat and fall asleep on the beach drunk and wake up and wonder why all your money and wallet is gone.
10: Dont be a complete prat and fall asleep on the beach drunk and wake up and wonder why that cute 'girl' is now a guy.
Dont wait to buy one of these bad boys......the longer you wit the more it costs you per day!
Purchase in town (rather then at a resort) and save half. I bought the cheaper one (500B though) and it was fine. Left it at the bungalo, so one week use.
The most relaxing ever.....a hammock in the water.
ps. the brits called it a lilo, so it caught on with Amy and I.....however, we would refer to this as an air matress. :)
Lots of ppl are doing luminous tattoo when they arrived at Fullmoon Party for the fun sake of it. It cost about 50baht and it also last for 24hrs. Lots of design and u can even design your own and asked them to do it on ur body. Cool stuff.
This was one of my favorite beaches in Koh Phangan.
Its white sand and clear warm waters are very good indeed.
It is not isolated or empty as many are but yau can easy spend a lazy day doing a lot or nothing at this beautiful beach.
There are resturants and drinks, massages and all sorts of beach activities available to you here,or you can just swim or float around and do nothing.
Whilst I was here I had a tattoo done on my right arm by a thai chap called 'Net' at his studio ' somewhere else ' . A clean tattoo parlour and equipment, and a first class job also.. You'll find his studio on the right handside of chicken corner before the bakery..
If your open to meeting others there is no doubt you will...each night we met different people...sommetimes we hung out with them for an hour or two and others for a couple days.....if you wan to be alone people respect that too...especialy on this beach where it wasnt very crowded at all....of course for me I need some semblance of a night life...we started by throwing a little social on our balcony...attendees were simply people who walked by and showed interest...the tunes were playing and of course we always had a good time....a regae bar is a must as well and usualy is the starting point for some sort of night life - although very laid back...literally.
We spent four nights here and then ended up taking another long boat up the coast going north west of bottle beach. Paid our Tab on the way out and it basically came down to $2000 baht ea for everything - bungalow, food, and booze....was quite the deal and sealed an impression of Thailand in my mind that is taking me back for Christmas once again this year. Every day I woke up wondering how I could be more relaxed than the day before....but certainly I was...incredible! Staying here also got me turned on to the "healthy option" for breakfast....fruit, yogurt and granola.....for 50 cents you cant beat it!
Just a good time...if you like to party then you will like the Full Moon. It was quite the sight...everything you could imagine...and some really *** faced people!.....I guess I might be included in that, but seriously, some people were *** canned....
You could basically arrive there at anytime in the evening/morning...the party went right through the night till the sun came up and past....transportation is available from all over the island and Samui as well...just be prepared to be crowded and pay a little more to get to and fro that evening...above and beyond that have an open mind and be ready for anything...you can chill, dance, people watch, go eat at a restaurant, walk around, dance some more.....try no to look at the ocean past 2 in the morning as it turns into a giant toilet.....speaking of which..take change as the only bathrooms really worth using are the pay ones just off the beach...at least they are clean and uncrowded...cost about 20 baht each time.
Watch out for lady boys and protitutes....people dancing out of control.....fire dancers (stay clear) and anyone looking to cause ***....the three of us had no problems....of course minus the hitch loosing his shoes and mind....neither were really found!
We returned to haad rin on our way off the island for a couple of evenings....way more chiiled and relaxed with some of the same tunes and party atmosphere in the evenings...was a nice way to get out of there...and you could swim during the day.
enjoy the party for what it is!
It used to be the most beautiful beach in Koh Phangan - a magnificent crescent with white sandy beach. It still is; but nowadays the place has become too busy. The back of the beach is now lined with countless bars, restaurants, shop and guesthouse.
At daytime, the beach is packed with people getting their tan, and there is constant streams of long tailed boat ferrying people from other beaches and all the way from Samui as well.
As the sun goes down, Had Rin will switch to party mode. The music will get louder and the crowd will get bigger.
Its not exactly idyllic, but it is also fun as a people-watching place.
The unofficial drink of Full Moon Party.
A concoction that consists of a bottle of whiskey, coca-cola and red bull - all mixed together inside a small plastic bucket that you can share with many people.
This is a really strong drink - evidently from the many passed out bodies that littered the beach during the party.
The Full Moon Party cover the whole stretch of Had Rin beach. However, the beach is segmented into several section, each one serviced by a bar or beach club.
Choose the one that you fancy, and sit on the tatami desk that they set on their beach section. You are expected to buy at least one round of drink from their bar.
However, these are loose rule and after a while, it really doesn't matter where you sit.
Full Moon Party or FMP is the main drawcard for visitors to this little island.
Basically, its just one, big beach party. Period. There is no cultural or philosophical reason behind it. Its a place for young travelers to meet, let loose and get wasted.
The incredible mass of humanity that descend to this island is truly a sight to behold. It feels like a pilgrimage, where the faithful make a long journey for a scheduled ritual.
