  • Discovery dive

by beachboy Written Feb 25, 2003

Favorite thing: I've spent half day here taking photos and strolling around Tong Sai Bay. Due to heavy sea traffic, tons of tourist ferries visiting every day, the water seems to be a bit polluted.

Fondest memory: My father and brother had got chance to experience discovery dive. Unfortunately, me as a certified PADI diver now, gotta stay on boat due to serious stomach muscle pain. I wish to return there again one day.

    WEATHER - when to go?

    by Nina-Maarit Updated Dec 27, 2002

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: This is not my favorite thing, this is about the weather... ;-)

High season (November till March): the best weather, the best time for scuba diving, but huge crowds of tourists
Low season (June and September): variable weather (lots of rain, rough sea), low prices, few tourists
Middle season (April, May, July, August, October): mostly nice weather (occasionally rain and rough sea), lower prices and less crowds than in high season

We stayed here ten days in the beginning of July (in 2002), and the weather was quite fine and enjoyably hot (ca. 32 C). There were showers almost every afternoon, but they were very short (but heavy!) and refreshed the air nicely. Only the sea was pretty rough, so we couldn't make diving trips beyond Phi Phi Leh Island, but it didn't bother us, since diving around Phi Phi Leh was amazing enough. And it was not too crowded.

    Beautiful fish

Favorite thing: Scuba diving!! It's a wonderful world down there that you cannot afford to miss!

Fondest memory: Sitting on the porch of our bungalow, happy but quite tired after diving all day, sipping refreshments, watching a bunch of cute kittens playing quite in front of me, enjoying the sun, the heat, the peace...

    White Beaches and Green Water

by pettevi Written Feb 25, 2003
    Longtail boats on the beach

Favorite thing: Everybody must love the white beaches and green water. Most of the tourists go scuba diving which is also quite cheap. You can choose anything from one day snorkeling trip to deepwater diving with several nights on a boat.

Fondest memory: Arriving Phi Phi island with boat is nice and picturesque. Few places in the world can be compared with this if you like small islands with white beaches.

    Swimming spot at Phi Phi

Fondest memory: If you want rest and relaxation, Phi Phi may not be the best place. Every beach, swimming cove and snorkelling spot has boat loads of other people just like you.

    Koh Phi Phi

Fondest memory: I've talked in my travelogue about how busy the islands have become with tourists but the natural beauty of the scenery is not in doubt.

    Cathouse

Fondest memory: This Thai spirit house provides a perfect refuge for the local cat population to escape the heat of the midday sun.

    Phi Phi Islands

Favorite thing: The phi Phi islands are an archipelago of six islands with Ko Phi Phi Don and Ko Phi Phi Le as the major islands. The others are still beautiful though.

    Simple bungalows

Fondest memory: When I was in Phi Phi there wasn't much lodging and what there was was simple. Probably very different now.

Favorite thing: ... but if for some reason you need to get in touch with it, there’s a couple of Internet cafes in the village, as well as public telephones. You can use your GSM phone here, too.

Favorite thing: Walk trough this nice shopping street. You will see a lot of activity. You also will find enough internet-cafes to check your mail.

Fondest memory: The beaches and clear water.

    Also go to Bamboo-beach.
