Cruising to Koh Phi Phi. Don on left, Ley on right

We booked a "Sea Angel" day cruise from Patong in Phuket to the Phi Phi islands for 1000 Thai baht. (AUD $35)
It was a sunny hot day and the water was so calm and smooth.
The scenery was amazing really with the islands jutting out of the water like city sky scrapers.
This was great value for a days trip I thought beause it included a full buffet lunch plus transfers to and from the Boat plus snorkeling over a coral reef near Phi Phi ley island.
We also had a few hours free time in Phi Phi Don island to relax on the AO Loh Dalam beach and to check out the shops .
The Captain who's name was Mon was a great guy who was very helpful and informative and we chatted most of the way home.

Liveaboard Diving around South Phuket and Phiphi

    by joyful_sun Updated Apr 4, 2011
    Me and the Leopard Shark

We joined a group of Thai friends on a liveaboard diving trip for 4 days 3 nights around the islands of Southern Phuket and Phiphi on board MV Vilaisamut for about 7,000 Baht all dives, meals and accommodation included. Dive sites we went to were Hin Bida Nok (saw leopard shark), Phiphi Lay (like an aquarium very pretty shallow wall), Phiphi Don, Mosquito Island, Hin Klai (lots of leopard sharks and a baby white tip shark), King Cruiser Wreck (nice large caverns and staircase), Anemone Reef (tons of anemone very colorful and leopards sharks again and seahorse) and Shark Point (of course Leopard sharks and seahorse again). Didnt expect diving in this area to be great, but it WAS!

Suggest to leave early around 7AM - 7:30AM from Phi Phi Don to catch some relaxing time at Maya Bay. Starting 9:30AM onwards, loads of tourists will be coming and the place will be swarmed with people. Other alternative is to go during low season to catch some rest and relaxation as there will not be as many crowds.

The cave in Phi Phi Le

The cave in Phi Phi Le

It's a cave in Phi Phi Le island, the smallest of the Phi Phi islands. You can take a boat to the entry of the cave, where you go off at the wooden jetty and walk inside the cave. But it's not much to see inside the cave except for birds and their nest in the roof.

My family on the Phi Phi tour

Take the day trip out to Phi Phi.
A full day of snorkelling and simply relaxing.

If you book your Phi Phi island tour through your resident hotel, you will be given a departure time as well as the expected time of arrival at the end of the day. Most hotels have their own guide who will accompany you on the tour.

You will be taken to a pier or beach where you will be taken by high- speed boat to the island.

    ISLAND VIEWS #1-Koh Phi Phi
    2 more images

During this trip to Phi Phi we noticed signs around the island promoting this 1/2 day adventure. Near the end we decided to book one of these trips and see what it had to offer. Well all I can say is that is was well worth the price (around 800bht each) and I can't wait to maybe try the full day next time.
After paying for the trip we waited to be picked up at our room, and by around 2:00pm we were on our way. The trip lasted close to 5 hours and included all of the following:

    MONKEY ISLAND (Saam Had)
    VIKING CAVE
    PILEY LAGOON
    LOH SAMAH BAY
    MAYA BAY

At the end of this trip you will have a change to watch the sunset and take in some nice views. The trip also provides the following items free to the guests:

    MASK,SNORKEL, FINS
    LIFE JACKET
    KAYAK
    TEA, COFFEE, WATER
    FRUIT AND FRIED RICE

Most boat tours that offer snorkelling will take you the sheltered, clear blue waters of Ao Lo Dalam which is a part of the Ko Phi-Phi National Marine Park.

Water temperatures are around 27-29C all year round so it's an idael temperature for spending hours in the water exploring this magnificent marine environment.

From this point where I am there is an absolutely fantastic view of the towering mountains and beautiful beaches of Phi Phi Don island.
It is quite a climb to get up here though and should be done either early in the morning or after about 4pm in time for the sunset.
It is well worth the climb for the view and the photo's that you will get once you get to the top.
There is a shop at the top for a cold drinkto celebrate making it.

If you are searching for a nice spot to enjoy the scenery, you should go upto the viewpoint. Just prepare yourself for the steep steps which lead you to the viewpont. In half an hour you will be at the top. The sunsets are amazing and you will see many couples having romantic time up there.

    Loh Samah bay
    1 more image

You can buy some “ready-made” trip to the surroundings island or you can organize a trip meets your special requirements. Travel agents are ready to help you. We had only few hours so we bought an early-morning trip around the Koh Phi Phi Leh island for 1500 THB / 2 persons.

The Thai guy took us with his longtail boat to the Maya bay (The Beach movie), then to Loh Samah Bay where we’ve experienced one of the best snorkeling in Thailand, then another bay and Vikings cave. This trip took about 3 or 4 hours.

Big advantage of this trip was that it was private, so just for two of us and that it was early in the morning. If you want to see the Maya bay without crowds of people go there before 10 AM. You’ll have to pay 200 THB / 1 person as the entrance to the beach and you won’t get any ticket. The only explanation we got from the Thai guy was that this is the National park and that’s why you have to pay.

Tonsai Bay Beach at your hotel door step

by SLLiew Written Feb 5, 2008

Tourists will arrive on Tonsai Bay side. At the jetty, there are many hotel and tour agents awaiting for any tourists arriving without any accomodation or travel plans.

This side of the island has waters that can swim as there are no coral rocks but a nice sandy beach. You can lay out on a sun deck bed to catch the rays or stroll along the inviting waters.

Or you can have dinner along the beach watching the sun setting with a glow on the island hills.

D's bookshop is apparently is a chain of bookshops in Asia, however, it was my first run-in with this place in Koh Phi Phi Don.

A lovely shop in an idyllic setting with a nice little cafe serving up great coffees and desserts. Its an ideal place to sip coffee and watch the world go by.

Try the cheesecake and the brownies - they are quite scrumptious!

    Snorkelling or Climbing

by nsurati Written Jan 9, 2008

We went on a snorkelling trip that we bought from Spider Monkey. This is essentially a climbing shop and specialises in climbing expeditions around Phi Phi island.

The best part about this shop were the people who ran this place. An english girl with her thai boyfriend started this shop. Very friendly, honest people who are a delight to talk to. They have some really cool merchandise for sale like T-shirts, trousers etc., the quality is quite nice and we did end up buying quite some stuff from them.

They have their own longtail boat, which can be rented. We rented the boat for 3 hours for snorkelling and had a really fun time.

    clear water at mosquito island

mosquito island is fantastic for snorkeling, i have never seen such clear water and bamboo island has amazing beaches and great snorkeling as well. i stayed at phi phi natural resort and the two islands are a 15 minute ride away in a longtail boat it cost 1300 baht to hire a boat and driver for 4 hours so the more people going the cheaper it becomes. there is also a great diving reef to the right of bamboo island, lots of dive boats congregate there every day
