 | Ko Tao Off the Beaten Path | Tips 1 - 5 of 5 | | Popular Off the Beaten Path | Miscellaneous Off the Beaten Path Tips | All Tips (5) Our diving instructor told us of a Bay on the other side of Koh Tao that could be reached via a bumpy path straight across the middle of the island. He recommended Laem Thian as he had been there the day before and had seen some Black Tip Reef Sharks and lots of other fish. He said the visibility had been superb. So we decided to follow his advice and set off early the next day. The path was indeed very up an down and bumpy but within an hour we caught glimpses of this very tranquil bay and ou hopes were lifted once again! The weather that day was absolutely superb so we were in luck! There is a Bungalow there called Laem Thian Bungalows and I asked the price and the lady said starting from 300B which seemed good. There is also a restaurant. There were very few people there which made it even better for us and the tranquility was wonderful. So we hired some snorkelling gear and off we went. The visibility was out of this world! Before we had even got in the water, we could see all the colourful fish swimming around in the shore, so I was lucky to get great photos. We swam out and of course the boys got scraped by the coral while us girls had fun spotting fish we had never seen before! As Charles went further and further out, I was a little unsure as that was where our instructor said he had seen the sharks! Anyway, I carried on going further out bit by bit until I heard a scream "S H A R K!" At this point I wasnt sure whether to scream myself and swim back or go and investigate! I opted for the latter! And within a few minutes, there it was, swimming on the bottom of the sea in a very shark manner! It was about a metre or just over in length and really just minding its own business! We stayed out in that area for a while longer and saw another one and then I decided to go back. Along the way we saw a 'trigger fish' and loved the way it moved and looked having no idea that if you get close to it, it could put up its 'trigger' and hurt you! Hhmmm... If you rent a motorbike you can go to Aow Leuk. Be careful when you ride there. The road is dusty and steep. But when you get there you will reach it - The most beautiful beach I have ever seen. It takes about 20 min by bike to get there. There is a guesthouse located. You can sit under palm trees (watch out! :) ) and take a real long swim in the crystal clear water. You can also snorkel very well. there are not many people here although there is also a nice Thai having a little kiosk like stand and playing music. Special wishes are welcome. It's a really relaxing beach for young people. Leave a Comment
