    World class climbing

    by gib157 Written Jan 26, 2005

Although I didnt do any myself I met quite a few people who were in the Railey area rock climbing. Aparently it is well known among rock climbers and I can see why. Sheer rock cliffs amongst stunning natural scenery. I cant think of a nicer place, the views must be amazing. There a re a few climbing shops so its very easy to get started.

    Admire the caves close up

At Ao Talane about 30 minutes drive from Ao Nang, we went kayaking as part of the half day tour package. My wife was hesitant initially but as she gathered confidence she began to enjoy the 2 hrs rowing as we all did. The guide took us on the calm emerald waters into the brownish ones at the mangrove swamp. If your eyes are sharp and quick, you will get to see macaques, kingfishers and monitor lizards. A waterproof bag is provided for your camera and binoculars.

Equipment: Just wear your life jackets and you are ready to go. It's a good idea to learn from the guide how to steer the kayak before venturing forward. Saves a lot of arguing with your partner later.

    Have fun.

Diving / snorkelling is very recommended here - the warm waters are clear and under water living habitats are still in 'almost prisitne' stages.

Equipment: Most dive masters have equipments that you can rent from, usually comes with as a dive package.

    These fish

    by j-san Written Apr 12, 2003

These little fish are everywhere you put your head under the water! The boat drivers will also throw in peanuts, biscuits and whatever else they happen to have while you are down there, making you suddenly surrounded by hundreds of these fish! I hear they can take a nip out of you too! :o

Here we tried snorkelling around Bamboo Island. I only saw the same little yellow striped fish and dead coral. In fact dead coral was all I saw at every spot. One couple said that when they swam further out to the dark blue water they could see pretty red coral.

    Snorkeling

    by j-san Written Apr 12, 2003

Not exactly a sport but the 4 island tour we went on provided lifejackets and good snorkells. It was really lovely to be out there in the calm warm water surrounded by towering karsts and little tropical fish! The longtail boat was easy to climb in and out of too and I enjoyed being that close to the water.

    fun in the water

    Diving and Snorkeling

by Svitata Written Mar 23, 2003

The islands off Krabi are great places to dive and to snorkel. The water is clear and very clean and there are lots of marine life around the islands. Many local tour agencies organise dive and snorkel trips for half a day or full day.
