  • Break down of the 3 main Island tours in Krabi!

by TengDaN Updated Jul 31, 2014

The 3 tours are Phi Phi, Hongs and 4 Island and the snorkelling equipments are all provided. You'll have the option to either travel by long tail boat(cheaper) or speed boat. The Journey by speed boat is faster but not suitable for children and the elderlies because the ride will be very bumpy. Tours cost around 900 - 1500baht. Look out for the tour agency stand beside an Italian restaurant Jeseao, under the same name. This is the place I found with the best deals.

When I asked the staff from the agency to rate the 3 tours, this was what I get:

    1. Phi Phi Island - Only by speed boat because the distance is too far away. 1 hour ride. It's a tourist attraction for both Krabi and Phuket which makes it a little overcrowded. The sceneries there are supposed to be the best but please avoid it during June to September because you'll won't get to go to the scenic area due to monsoon.

    2. Hong Islands - The nearer alternative for Island hopping, beautiful scenery and less crowded. I would prefer to travel by longtail to enjoy the scenery. For the thrill seeker, go by speed boat, it feels like a roller coaster.

    3. 4 Islands - Another nearer alternative but less beautiful.

I went the first two tours, phiphi islands, hong islands. I've also did white water rafting, kayaking and even travelled to Krabi town from Ao nang by scooter! Taxi transport cost 10 times as much as motor bike rental. View my blog to know more. Link is in the profile page.

    Island hopping...Maya Bay.

What more can be said of Maya Bay. The country icon and a symbol of the pop culture after the filming of the movie The Beach on it´s shores in 1999. An impossing beautiful bay sheltered by 100-metre high cliffs on three sides, with many small beaches (some only exist at low tide) and a main beach 200 mts long, with white-powder sand.
The only bad thing, the hordes of visitors; hundreds of people taking pictures, walking around, swiming, it is almost impossible to take a picture without people or boats, but anyway is a wonderfull place , which well worth visiting.
On any given day at any time there will be at least 20 or more speedboats and longtail boats in the beach. The best time to visit is in the morning or after 17:00 to avoid the crowds.

    Island hopping...Bamboo island.

by euzkadi Written Mar 2, 2012

Our first stop on the island hopping tour...Bamboo island, a tiny small island, with no high rocky peaks or lush vegetation, but with some of the most beautiful and tranquil beaches in the area. We were the firsts to get there, and is a place that i really enjoyed. Great for sunbathing

We went on the 4-island tour operated by Phi Phi Island Tours. I must say this was one of the most well organized tour companies. The speedboat had 1 driver, 1 english speaking guide and 2 other staff who were all helpful. The best place we enjoyed was Poda Island. nice beach for the kids and also reasonable snorkelling just 30-30m off the beach.

Two days later we went to the Phi Phi Island tour with another tour company, also quite good but the speed boat was too big with about 35 pple and can be noisy. However, this trip had the best snorkelling with nice corals and fishes.

Be careful when booking tours. The same tour agent gave us 2 different tour operators when we book for the above tours although I am sure Phi Phi Island Tours also operate the 2nd tour.

    Island Hopping

Island Hopping is what most people go to beaches for. We joined the island hopping tours which will bring us around several islands for snokerlling and lunch at Phi Phi Don.

Water is pretty good as you go further out to the ocean. We visited Maya Bay where the movie - The Beach is shot.

Look out for sea urchins though while snorkerlling.

Shop around for the island hopping tours as some tour agents charge more than others.

Definitely do island hopping while in Krabi. There are many small islands with white sandy beach and good place for snorkeling!

Your day tour of island hopping allows you to enjoy the landscape and limestone outcrop of the islands in Krabi areas. Aren't they beautiful? see more pics of the islands.
