    Dusty Gecko: Dusty Gecko

    by Cathy&Gary Updated Feb 10, 2015

We were looking forward to having dinner at Dusty Gecko due to the good reviews they have on Trip Advisor but have to say we were disappointed with some of our main courses. We did go during low season and the menu is not the huge menu full of choices that we were expecting. Six of us went and all the entrees were delicious, so things started off perfect.

The Pulled Pork dish had loads of cracked pepper on it and was very tasteless; if we went back I would not order this dish again. The steak dish was shocking, it had been pounded to death, was very thin and as tough as a piece of leather.

Just a shame that our Chef friend had ordered this. It was inedible. He was offered a replacement steak but declined the offer and it was taken off the bill. The pizza was swamped with mixed herbs and extremely greasy. The other 3 mains were good.

So we must have gone on a bad night when the Chef was not working as it was a woman who was spoken to re the meals. So 3 out of the 6 mains were good and everyone said they would not bother going back again.

CC Beach Bar & Restaurant Khanom

    by Cathy&Gary Updated Feb 10, 2015

CC Beach Bar and Restaurant was the very first beach bar in Khanom Nakhon Si Thammarat Province and it is in a beautiful location on the central section of Khanom Bay called Nadan beach. We went here quite a few times during our stay in Khanom and it is a fantastic place for meals and drinks.

You can sit on the beach enjoying the views or undercover in the bar or restaurant. The menu is huge with a great selection of Thai and International dishes and the bar would have to be one of the best stocked bars we have seen, everything is available here.

Charlie the owner is always up for a chat, he is a lovely man who also does a lot for his community, especially the orphanage in Nakhon Si Thammarat. I have a separate page on Charlie’s Children’s Charities.

I have to mention their pizzas. Especially the huge, delicious Kraphao Special Pizza for 250baht. It is the hottest spiciest pizza we have ever had and it was so good we went back another night for another one. Actually all the meals we had here which included lunch and dinners were very good.

So if you are in the area then we highly recommend a visit to CC’S Beach Bar, it really is a must visit place.

As Charlie says on his website, here are a few words to sum up CC’s Beach Bar.
Buckets, full moon, BBQ’s, dancing, laughing, night time swimming, bonfires, massage, parties, fire shows, cocktails, shots and a lot more!

Hello Kitty Cafe: Hello Kitty Cafe

    by Cathy&Gary Written Feb 7, 2015

Well I am not into Hello Kitty but when I saw the signs in Khanom advertising a Hello Kitty Café we just had to go there. Of course it was for the photos only but this is a cute little café selling great smoothies, shakes, snacks and alcohol.

They also advertise themselves as being the best place at night for partying. I am not too sure about that as every time we drove past they were either closed or empty.

Gary was not impressed that I wanted to take photos of him in front of the Hello Kitty signs and the fact he had to sit in a pink café. But having said that the drinks were cold, prices were cheap, the snacks ok and now we take friends there for their photos.

Krua Tangke Restaurant: Krua Tangke Restaurant

    by Cathy&Gary Written Feb 7, 2015

Krua Tangke Restaurant is in the Anavilla Tangke Resort, there are signs everywhere in Khanom so quite easy to find. We only went here for lunch and the setting is nice with tables and chairs overlooking the canal.

We were the only people here and it is a big restaurant. I have heard it is full on weekends with Thai people who come for dinner and karaoke. Our lunch was simple but tasty, prices are a bit over the top but that’s what you get for eating at a hotel restaurant.

We also went back one night with friends for dinner to try their seafood but there was nothing fresh on display and due to the amount of mosquito’s we only had a drink and left.

Once again we were the only customers.

    Khanom Seafood: Khanom Seafood

    by Cathy&Gary Written Feb 6, 2015

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Khanom Seafood is in a beautiful setting with lovely views of the crystal clear waters of Nai Phlao Bay in Khanom. But that is all this place has going for it. Four of us decided to try them for lunch and it if was nice we would go back one night for dinner.

The place was very quiet and there seemed to be plenty of staff but the service was shocking. Our meals were mixed up and the food was on the average bland side, only one drink out of the four ordered turned up. So we decided we would not come back for dinner.

However a couple of months later we were back in Khanom with some more friends and decided to try them for dinner. Big mistake, nothing had changed, service was still slow and the seafood platter was shocking.

It was very small nothing like the photo in the menu, the squid was not cooked properly, very small tasteless prawns and it seemed like a few items were missing. The fish dish was overcooked and had a strange taste to it, so it was a very disappointing expensive meal.

Never again will we go to Khanom Seafood which is such a shame as the location is so nice but let down terribly by poor service and tasteless food.

Sandy Beach Bar and Restaurant: Sandy Beach Bar and Restaurant Khanom

    by Cathy&Gary Written Feb 11, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Sandy Beach Bar and Restaurant is next door to Talkoo Beach Resort Khanom. We were staying at this hotel and about 4.30pm we started to hear very loud thumping Thai music coming from either our hotel or the Sandy Beach Bar. Then the truck loads of Thai families started arriving. Oh well it is not going to be a quiet night so we may as well join them.

The bar only sold beer but we noticed a lot of families bringing their own drinks so Gary went back to our room and filled up some water bottles with Bacardi and Scotch. This is not problem at all in most Thai places. We were well looked after with bottles of coke and buckets of ice.

Actually we were quite an attraction being the only Westerners there and quite a few Thai’s came over to say hello or check out Gary’s Buddha’s. Dinner was nice and only 350baht for the both of us.

Soon the music started getting louder, then the outside area of the hotel next door started filling up, we thought maybe they were all coming over to Sandy Beach Bar. No, just our luck, huge speakers are being set up, there is a separate Karaoke night about to happen at Talkoo Beach Resort.

The combined noise was deafening but we did last until 11pm! Then we checked out the next day ha-ha

    Lantalea Restaurant: Lantalea Restaurant

    by Cathy&Gary Written Mar 24, 2013

Lantalea Restaurant is part of the Khanom Sunrise resort on Nai Plao beach Khanom. The food here is basic but delicious and very cheap as is the alcohol. There is nothing better than sitting here on the beach front enjoying a simple dinner and drinks.

Fantastic little restaurant and very popular with the Thai’s.

Supar Royal Beach Hotel Restaurant: Supar Royal Beach Hotel Restaurant

    by Cathy&Gary Written Mar 24, 2013

This restaurant is part of the Supar Royal Beach Resort Nai Plau Beach at Khanom. The night we decided to go here it was absolutely packed with Thai people that were here for a conference. Lucky for us there was one table left.

What a funny night, just us and maybe 100 Thai's having fun with speeches, karaoke, prize giving and dancing. We both ordered mussaman curries and it was extremely spicy but delicious. Our bill here for food and the drinks which included a large bottle of beer, a bottle of coke and a bottle of Hong Thong rum was 460baht.

I also left my glasses here and we went back the next day to see if anyone had found them, as soon as we pulled up in the car they were there with my glasses, huge relief as there was also sd cards etc inside the case.

Street food stalls by the road: Best Bee Hoon( Rice noodle) soup!

    by K2NG Updated Feb 16, 2013

At the junction where Jamroenwithi Road intersects with the small lane infront of Thai Hotel, food hawkers line the street on both sides at night, offering a host of local fares. Food is cheap.

Favorite Dish: A stall run by an elderly woman wearing a blue cap selling Bee Hoon (Rice noodle) soup is always busy with long queue of customers waiting for take-away orders. The portion may be small but it cost merely 30 Baht per bowl. You can ask for noodle or Kway Teow instead of Bee Hoon. And ingredients are meat balls, bean sprout, pig intestines, lean pork slice, etc. The best is the soup base which is very appetising and tasty. Assisting her is a young lady. And they will offer ice water Free of Charge.

Next to this stall is a dessert stall selling bean curd added with ginger soup and a choice of toppings consisting of gingko nuts and barley etc. Each bowl cost only 15 Baht.
