February: Pack for warm weather

by ATXtraveler

The most important thing to remember when travelling to Southern Thailand is to pack light. It is very warm here, and so keep your winter coats at home. If you primarilly wear walking shoes, bring extra pairs of socks to keep your feet dry, because they will be sweaty! Its a great place to backpack around, so go for it!

Mosquito Spray

by Tina-Perth

It is vital to bring mosquito repellant with you to any areas in Thailand. The mosquitos that carry Malaria are the ones with the white on them. When you see those around, take extra precautions. Mosquito spray is cheap and effective, also travel sized, so be sure to carry some with you, particularly in wet areas. The Thai people believe that black clothing attracts mosquitos, and I guess they'd know. I do wear a bit of black, but I must admit I haven't had that much of a problem with them. I've heard that they are also attracted to body temperature and carbon dioxide which is heavy and hangs low, so be sure to spray your feet and exposed legs.

Backpacks...you don't need all that much stuff except what you can carry on an airplane. Shorts, skirts, swimwear, t-shirts, sandals, and shoes if you want to go hiking. Don't forget clean underwear (socks and bras are optional). You can figure this one out. Mosquito net, strong insect repellant (deet 25% +), plastic bed sheet to cover your mattress, mosquito coils (invaluable)

just some ideas.....

rucksacks or holdalls. Try not to over pack. as Phi Phi has no transport you have to carry everything everywhere.. and in that heat it can be a nightmare. loose clothing. beach wear. evening clothes.Flip flops and trainers don't bother with anything else.rain mac or umbrella You can get everything you could possibly need on the island but bear in mind that the prices are generally more expensive than the mainland. They have a fantastic chemist that stocks everything. Photo developing shop on the main front (Kodak) they will develop your photos in less than 4 hours. You can buy films all over the island. Again expect to pay a bit more though. Goggles are a good tip saves carrying around a snorkel and mask all of the time.Although all beach equipment can be hired or brought.

No need for much if you plan to stay on a beach

by Nivag

Swimming shorts and a couple of t-shirts as above soap and maybe a few plasters Digital camera Hammock nothing else as you will not want to leave where ever it is you decide to stay. Do not bother with shoes or clubbing gear, beach wear is fine in all of the bars.
