    Chalong Bay

    by Adeline_Foo Written Jan 18, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: This sheltered bay has become a favourite mooring point for visiting yachts and is the jumping off point for tour boats and dive boars heading out to the islands south of Phuket. It is a hive of activity during the day as it is home to a number of boat yards and tour buses come and go. It is a scruffy working set of docks and not a pleasure beach.

    Patong beach

    Patong beach

Favorite thing: Patong beach is the place where everything happens, although is not the best beach, at night you can have dinner and shopping, you can book excursions to the islands ( Phi Phi, 007,etc ) or elephant rides and you have tuk-tuks to get around.

    Kata Beach - 2003

    Kata Beach - 2003

Fondest memory: Mass tourism has arrived in Kata. Gone is the quiet, idyllic beach resort I had memories of and in its place are sunbeds along the entire length of the beach.
This is what is happening in many areas of Thailand.

    Kata Beach - 1996

    Kata Beach - 1996

Fondest memory: I first went to Kata Beach in 1992 and it was a little piece of heaven. When I returned in 1996 it hadn't changed much.
However, when I next went there (in 2003) I couldn't believe what I saw. See next tip.
