Clubs, bars, go go: Tattoo Bar

    by Cathy&Gary Updated Jan 26, 2015

Tattoo Bar is opposite Sabai Beach Restaurant Loma Park and is one of our favorite bars; it is right in front of Patong Tattoo which is owned by our very good friends of many years Mit and Wat. It is one of the first places we take friends and family for a drink (and a tattoo)

I have lost count of the amount of parties, get togethers and fun nights out etc we have had at the Tattoo Bar over the years. So call in and say hello to the boys and beautiful Bee.

The staff are also a lot of fun, there is now also a pool table, challenge Wat to a game if you think you can beat him!

Tattoo Bar is open during the day as well and suitable for families or singles and the girls are fantastic with children.

Sunshine Bar: Sunshine Bar Rawai Beach

    by Cathy&Gary Updated Jan 25, 2015

The Sunshine Bar is a fantastic bar on the beach rd at Rawai. It is very popular for families, singles and groups with many people from around the world calling in for a drink and some good clean fun.

There are many seafood restaurants next to the Sunshine Bar so why not head over for a nice dinner on the beach then some drinks and fun at the Sunshine Bar.

The girls have bongo drums, tambourine's, castanet's, Thai bells and flutes behind the bar and they have a great singing, dancing and musical act that they perform all night.

They also love children and involve them in the musical act and by the end of the evening it is shoulder to shoulder dancing with children and adults.

They also have the best toilets in Phuket!!

Blondie's Bar 2 Otop Markets: Blondie's Bar 2 Otop Markets

    by Cathy&Gary Updated Jan 25, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Blondie's Bar 2 is a great little bar in Otop Markets which is very popular with regular visitors and expats in Phuket. Mick who is Australian born and bred has lived in Phuket for many years, he has a loyal following and it is the perfect spot to call in for a cold drink or to watch one of the many sports shows that are televised. Mick is also a wealth of knowledge for hotels, tours and shopping etc.

I am not a fan of Otop markets at all and really only go there to have a drink or catch up with friends at Blondie's Bar. There are regular barbeques, birthday parties and for most holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Anzac Day etc Mick always put on something special.

To find Blondie's Bar, go in the main entrance to Otop markets opposite Hard Rock Cafe, walk down over the first little intersection and Blondie's is the second bar on your right.

Heroes Bar: Heroes Bar - Bangla Road

    by Cathy&Gary Written Jan 20, 2015

We do not go to Bangla Rd very often but the only reason we do go is to visit Heroes Bar. It is managed by One Eye Dave a friendly Aussie who makes sure everyone is having a good night.

The bar is comfortable with a great front section facing Bangla Rd so perfect for people watching. There is also a live 2 piece Filipino band that is excellent and can sing any request you send their way. The staff are friendly without being overbearing. There are also big screen televisions that play live sports.

Heroes Bar is in a good location on Bangla Rd as most nights there is also street entertainment in front from the break dance boys and sometimes the magic man who has been around for many years now.

All in all, a nice safe place that’s a lot of fun at night and a quiet haven during the day.

Clubs, bars, go go: The Famous Buckets of Thailand (Bangla Road)

by jayjayc Written Sep 21, 2014

-In the PI, when you order a bucket of alcohol, you get one with 5 to 6 bottles of beer sitting on ice, in Thailand you get the drinks right in the bucket - mostly mix of gin and any flavor you prefer, mix of gin and redbull is a blast

Black Cat Bar - Soi Gonzo: Black Cat Bar - Soi Gonzo

    by Cathy&Gary Updated Feb 4, 2014

Well what can I say about Black Cat Bar in Soi Gonzo except we have had many fun nights there. Black Cat's has plenty of seating, dart boards, big screen televisions and fantastic friendly staff. They often have a live DJ and put on delicious barbeques.

This is a very hard place to leave, there is no such thing as popping in for a couple of drinks, we have tried many times. Actually our latest ever night in Phuket was after a night at Black Cats, we arrived back at our hotel at 6.45am!!

So call in and say hello to Tuk, Ewe and Mhee, they make everyone feel so welcome, I guarantee you will have a fantastic night.

Black Cat Bar is easy to find, it is just past the Aussie Bar off Bangla Rd down Soi Gonzo on the left side.

  • Two Black Sheep: The Best Pub/Bar in Phuket

    by neen63 Updated Apr 4, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Being typical Aussies that love people, eating/drinking, music and having a good time, we could not believe our good luck when we discovered the Two Black Sheep Pub & Restaurant in Patong! Without doubt, the best pub/bar we have been to in Phuket on 3 visits to this amazing place.

Aussie hosts, John & Debra & Rob were so hospitable and friendly and made us feel at home right away. The atmosphere is awesome - great people, great staff and amazing live music every night. Owner John is an accomplished Aussie muso himself, and you can just feel the laid back, good-time friendly vibes in this pub as soon as you walk in. John plays a few sets early in the evening and then the Thai band kicks in from about 10:00pm each night. They were absolutely fantastic, and the female singer (who doesnt start until around 11:00pm or so) is brilliant. The whole place rocks and every night we were there people were just all mingling together, singing, dancing and having a great time.

The staff were all fantastic - no bar girls or touts - just friendly, hard working Thais who quite obviously have picked up the Aussie humour generated by the management and many of the patrons.

Food and drink prices were very reasonable and the food was actually really good. Happy "hour" goes from about 10:00am to about 10:00pm (that's Thai time for you!).

What was also good was that Two Black Sheep isn't just an "Aussie" pub - it struck the right balance between local Thais, Aussies and other Western tourists, with the result being an ecclectic, fun, friendly and comfortable party atmosphere.

The operators of this bar should be very proud of what they have created. My hubby and I can't wait to get back to Phuket and pay all the great people at the Two Black Sheep another visit.

    Dress Code: Casual - definitely.

The Aussie Bar is a fantastic place to enjoy good drinks, food, pool tables, and of course meet people from all over the world! It has the best selection of TVs for watching all kinds of sport including golf, tennis, motor racing, rugby, aussie football, cricket, soccer/football etc.

Dress Code: Dress is super casual. Thongs, shorts, t-shirts or tank tops are the norm

Clubs, bars, go go: Speedys Bar

    by Cathy&Gary Updated Apr 4, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Speedy's Bar is one of the oldest Aussie bars in Phuket and Speedy is very well known among the expat community and also has a large following of both past and present serving Military personnel.
'Speed' was a Vietnam Veteran serving more than 30 years in the Australian Army as a medic.

Gary first met 'Speed' in Watsonia Army Barracks before they were both deployed to Cambodia for a year with the Australian Force Communications Unit (FCU) as part of the UNTAC (United Nations Transitional Authority Cambodia).

Gary first met 'Speed' in Watsonia Army Barracks before they were both deployed to Cambodia for a year with the Australian Force Communications Unit (FCU) as part of the UNTAC (United Nations Transitional Authority Cambodia).

They spent a year living together in a small room and became friends and have stayed in touch ever since they were discharged from the Australian Army.

'Speed' has always loved SE Asia and it was no surprise to anyone when he retired from the Army and headed to Phuket.
We have had many good nights at Speedy's Bar over the years and hope to have many more.

His partner of over 10 years Porn (One of these days he's bound to pop the magic question) who manages the bar is the most lovely lady you could meet.
The working girls there are great fun and many an hour has been spent playing dice games etc with them and getting thrashed!!

One of the best nights I have ever had was when we went to Speedy's Bar last year (2006) and Speed and Porn had organized a surprise birthday party for my 50th.
They had a huge banner made which everyone signed once it was taken down, organized a beautiful cake and invited everyone.

It was a night I will never forget.

So call into Speedy's Bar and say hello, the drinks are icy cold and cheap, plus you can also order snacks there if you are feeling hungry.

It's a very honest bar and you will never have to worry about extra drinks being added to your bill!

Speedy's Bar has had a few changes.
The bar area is now bigger and there is also a pool table.

Dress Code: Absolutely no dress code.

Clubs, bars, go go: Bangla road, Patong

Bangla road in Patong centre is a place you should avoid if you're not interested in girlie bars. It's a crazy adult spot and has become the third largest bar-street in Thailand after the Walking street in Pattaya and Patpong in Bangkok. A similar, but smaller place, is also located in Karon Beach, Phuket.

Clubs, bars, go go: Bangla Road

by Willettsworld Written Jan 13, 2010

Patong's nightlife spills out in all directions but its epicentre is Thanon Bang La (Bangla Road) and its four sois - Crocodile, Eric, Gonzo and Seadragon. Each one is packed with a frenetic mix of pubs, beer bars, and go-go bars. Soi Crocodile is also known as Soi Katoey, a reference to its many transsexuals which you'll see at the front who pose for photos by inquisitive and generally amazed foreign onlookers. There are also a couple of good nightclubs with dance floors plus some western pubs such as an Ozzie and Irish pub.

The street is closed off to traffic after 6pm which means you can wander around without fear of getting run over. But this also means that you'll be approached by street vendors and streetwalkers wielding a menagerie of miserable-looking creatures - endangered gibbons, exotic birds and large pythons - to extort money from tourists. The beer bars feature lots of girls who will grab you if you're under a certain age in order to get you into their establishment. Whilst in, you can buy a drink, play pool or play a bar game such as Connect 4 or that wooden puzzle game where you take the wooden pieces out one after another before someone collapses the whole thing down. To sum up, Patong's nightlife is Bangla Rd where, depending on your predilections, you'll either want to spend all of your time here or as little as possible.

Clubs, bars, go go: Rock City

    by Cathy&Gary Updated Nov 15, 2009

Rock City on the beach Rd has closed down. However their second venue is still open on Rat-u-Thit Rd, near top end of Bangla Rd.

If you want a night out with loud live bands, this is the place to be.

We never ventured inside Rock City at night, bit to noisy, but the place was always full no matter what time we walked past.

Meals are reasonably priced and huge, the full menu is on their website.

Bars in general!: Bars in general!

    by Cathy&Gary Written Feb 24, 2009

I'm not going to go much into the nightlife of Phuket as there would just be to much to cover and its more fun to just go and try new places.

There are nightclubs, hundreds of little bars, Irish Pubs, English Pubs, Live Band Venues, Theatre restaurants, plus much more.

Some of these places above have already been covered in my Eating Out pages.

Some people hate Bangla Road and are very worried about the seedy side of things in Phuket.

You only see what you want to see, nothing is shoved in your face.
Sure, there are girls and some of our best nights out have been drinking and talking to the girls.

Bangla Rd is just like a big carnival zone, its lots of fun and everyone should go there at least once, its what you make it!!
