Sunshine Bar Rawai Beach: Sunshine Bar Rawai Beach

    by Cathy&Gary Written Apr 10, 2010

The Sunshine Bar is a fantastic bar on the beach rd at Rawai. It is very popular for families, singles and groups with many people from around the world calling in for a drink and some good clean fun.

There are many seafood restaurants next to the Sunshine Bar so why not head over for a nice dinner on the beach then some drinks and fun at the Sunshine Bar.

The girls have bongo drums, tambourine's, castanet's, Thai bells and flutes behind the bar and they have a great singing, dancing and musical act that they perform all night.

They also love children and involve them in the musical act and by the end of the evening it is shoulder to shoulder dancing with children and adults.

Join the Pole Climbers Club at the Sunshine Bar and see if you can make it to the top to ring the bell.

This has turned into quite an event, it is not as easy as it looks and there are certainly some interesting techniques.

If you can stop laughing long enough, give it a try and don't forget your camera!

Odyssey Bar Phuket Twon: Odyssey Bar Phuket Twon

    by Cathy&Gary Written Nov 15, 2009

What a fun place this turned out to be.

The Odyssey Bar is in Phuket Town down a little street called Soi Rommani which runs off Krabi Rd just after Yarowat Rd.

This Soi is one of the oldest in Phuket Town and back in the tin mining days it was mainly a street of little shop front brothels that catered to the miners!

Today those shop fronts are quaint welcoming bars.

We were the only customers there and ordered our drinks. There was no Bacardi on their list so I ordered a Kamikaze cocktail for 180baht.
Well imagine my surprise when they bought out a jug of it with a straw!!
Bargain but could I have a glass with that please.

Gary and Mark ordered small bottles of beer and Mark was a bit disappointed when his arrived with no stubby holder, so he asked could they please get one for him.
    Their answer was a classic
"Sorry Sir but we only have one".
    So lucky Gary.

They also have a Thai guy singing and playing guitar, he was fantastic with such a beautiful voice and his pronunciation was perfect!

Bangla road: The sights of the Night

by junecorlett Updated Jul 22, 2009

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You just cannot go to Phuket without visiting BANGLA ROAD.
    The night life is unbelievable.
Music from every Bar, entertainment, shopping, girlie-boy watching (dont make eye-contact) they will want you to picture them and then ask a fee.
We took my 82 year old Mom for an eye-opener.
We also did lots of shopping here.

Dress Code: No dress code required. You could go in your bikini, costume and sarong. The heat is unbearable. But you soon forget and just enjoy the atmosphere.

The police close the road off from 6 pm until 6am to allow people to walk freely.
The police station is situated at the top of the road for an easy view of the happenings.

    Quokka Bar: Quokka Bar

    by Cathy&Gary Written Feb 24, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Quokka Bar is one of many in Otop markets and is a favourite for Aussies to stop for a drink and cool down after walking through the markets.

Easiest way to describe where the bar is located is to go through the main entrance of the markets which is off Rat-u-Thit Rd, turn left halfway down and you will see the Quokka bar.

The girls here, Elle and Mae are a lot of fun, nice to talk to and do not annoy people at all, unlike some of the other bars in the market area.

Prices are pretty good for drinks as well.

    Elvis Show: Elvis Show

    by Cathy&Gary Written Feb 24, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Ritchie Newton has spent the last 27 years as an entertainer, the last 10 of them as a very successful Elvis Tribute Artist.

We were lucky to see Ritchie at the Patong Beach Hotel and I must say we were a bit skeptical about going as my sister Angie and I were bought up on Elvis, so why would we want to see someone trying to take him off.

Well, were we surprised. Ritchie is fantastic, he can sing!! His costumes are amazing and he is a lot of fun. To top it off he is also a really nice guy.

We had a great night out singing along (Angie and I were Ritchie’s back up singers) using our swivel sticks as microphones.

So for a nights of laughs and fun catch Ritchie’s show at the Patong Beach Hotel and the Holiday Inn on beach road, (plus other various locations around Thailand).

Ritchie has recently signed new contracts with the Patong Beach Hotel and Holiday Inn Resort in Phuket. Check out where and when Ritchie is playing on his website below.

    Ritchie Newton Website

We highly recommend the Ritchie Newton show, it’s free and suitable for all age groups and is a great way to spend the evening.

    Ratri Jazztaurant: Jazz Music

    by Tina-Perth Updated Jan 13, 2008

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I have revisited the Ratri Jazztaurant and this is the updated review.

The Ratri Jazztaurant is definitely one of the best places to enjoy an evening on the whole island. The views over Kata are impressive, as is the design and decor of the place. The live jazz really tops it all off. The band is fantastic.

Great for a romantic evening or for fun with friends, I'm sure that once you've visited, you'll return.

The food is more expensive than average, but is still reasonably priced and varies between quite good and very good. Service has improved, but still needs work.

My advice is not to sit near the toilets when dining downstairs, as you will get a slight waft from the toilets each time they're flushed. We usually eat upstairs, unless we're ordering a substantial meal.

Circle Cafe and Deli: Catch a film

by traceyspacey Written Nov 2, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There isn't a great deal of nightlife in Phuket town.

So we went to the Circle Cafe and Deli to watch a film. Films start at about 7.30pm/8pm. The wine is reasonable here and the food is good.

    Scruffy Murphy's: Good live Music

by traceyspacey Written Oct 21, 2007

We went here a few times and saw the live music last night. It was very good and they take requests. Scruffy Murphy's doesn't do the girly bar thing. They also show sports throughout the day and have a pretty good happy hour. 100B all day every day for a pint of beer, happy hour deals on bottled ber. The staff are friendly and smile alot.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

WOW this place was amazing. There`s amusement games that the kids will love. food and entertainment, elephant rides and thats before the show.
The actual show was amazing I would go again, the one thing that cracked me up was the chickens that ran across the stage, if you've been or do go you'll know what im talking about.
You can also get your picture taken with the elephants and bubby tiger, for a fee of course and you pick them up after the show already done up in a colorful frame.
You will see to that even though it gets packed its really well organized.

Dress Code: I wore nice but casual, some were dolled up :) its nice to get dressed up.

    Bangla RD

    by Donna-Lee Written Aug 19, 2007

At night the Rd is closed to traffic and its people only, and a couple of dogs hehe
The 'lady-boys' are on the street trying to get you to have your photo taken with them, remember they want to be paid for it.
The Indian tailors are trying to get you into their shop.
The lovely north Thai girls try to sell you what ever is in their trays, I did give into 1 really nice young girl she had the cutest smile, I do like my 3 silver bangles that I paid next to nothing for.
A man with an iguana tries to get you to have it on your head for a photo.
The old men with young girls!!!!!

Tangmo club, Playschool, Octopus: Cabaret Shows, Bars and Go Go's

by austarman Updated Aug 1, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are so many great bars, disco's, cabaret shows and restaurants that you can go to for a night out in Phuket.
We started off 2 nights at the Playschool go go bar in Soi Seadragon just to have a look at the dancers.
We had a few drinks one night and went to my Papa's friends bar at the end of the soi called the Octopus bar where we met the boss and some great people from many places and had a few more drinks.
Later Kwarn says she will show us a great show so we ended up at a place called the Tangmo club which was a cabaret show full of Katoey's and gays.
Not really my thing but the cabaret show was well done.
If you are after a good disco then you should try the Tiger pub on Bangla street which is good and always seems to be busy.
My favorite though would have to be the Banana disco on the beach road with good music and a light laser show.

Dress Code: Right throughout Phuket the nightlife dress is just comfortable and whatever feels good.

    Bangla Road: Nightlife in Phuket

    by Cielo_Algaeed Updated Mar 19, 2007

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A lot of tourists flocked to this famous street called Bangla Road . Many restaurants and ago-go bars are located in the area. This is also an adult spot ...so never allow your kids go on their own..You can find lots of Gay impersonators here who will asked you to take pictures of them and then they will ask for payment.

Some of the clubs/bars have a huge white screen/ tv for the football fanatics who do not want to miss the game.

    Bangla Road: Go Go Bars

by beccyandjohn Written Feb 23, 2007

An a go go bar is a place where you can watch Thai girls dancing to music often not wearing much, there not aloud to go nude as this is against the Tai Law.

The girls will often talk to customers and have a drink but if you want them to be yuor guest you would have to pay the bar man/woman, as she would no longer be assisting the bar with entertainment.

We did see one man buy a girl or two, this was in what i thought was a sports bar as John wanted to watch a MAN U game, me not really bothered with the footie was people watching when i noticed this man get up with 2 tai girls, before he left the bar he went to the bar and paid the bar man some cash which didn't go into his usual cash box. He had a a small tresure chest where he deposited this money...

    Margarita Bar: All night jamming!

by earthboundfaerie Written Nov 9, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is such a fun little place to go to! It's just one of Bangla Road's little bars where foreigners go for the Thai girls, some live music and cheap beer. But what sets this place apart from the rest is their friendly band!! A trippy mix of their European guitarist/vocalist, their Filipina singer and keyboardist and their Thai drummer, other guitarist and bassist, they invite you to sit once they see you trying to catch a glimpse of their set. People who want to jam with the band are always welcome!! They play everything from tunes you can dance to to some of the more popular rock classics from The Police, U2 and even some stuff from Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Blur. They're great to watch as they're pretty good and a lot of the foreigners loved them! One guy from Europe jammed with them on Blur's Song 2 and he had such fun that he did it again. My husband also got to jam with them a lot since my husband plays bass so he sang and played bass for Sting's hit Every Breath You Take and played bass for a few mroe songs after that since the bassist wanted to take a break and because the crowd loved him, hehe. Everybody there were all so friendly and all the other guests looked like they were having so much fun especially after the band got everyone dancing!! :-)

    Dress Code: very very casual
