    In Phuket the day's heat can reach into the high temperatures and the sun can burn you to a crisp so dont forget your hat, sunscreen and close knit clothing so you do get burnt through the material.

  • Well, Singapore airlines has spoken and a 30kg limit has been capped on each of us. Well it didnt take long to meet that, so out came some of the mammut chairs and now its back to packing the bags..................................................................................................

    When you travel overseas people are always so interested in where we the traveller come from. A picture book with photos of Australian animals and/or scenery would probably be a good idea. Someone recently told me they took a small atlas for use in a primary school. I agree the colouring book with pencils, textas or paints would be great especially if it features Australian animals. Good quality art paper is very hard to come by in other countries (so expensive) so next time I plan to take some artist sketch pads with me and the proper soft lead pencils for sketching as these we found hard to find. Balloons are a wonderful idea as we tried to buy some in Bali for my Mum's birthday & they burst as we blew them up. whatever you take will be greatly appreciated by the children & their family. Enjoy Phuket we love it

  • You don't have to pay the 500 baht airport departure tax anymore. Apparently it's now included in the ticket price. But do keep some baht with you at the airport to buy food with. Flights are not always puntual - and it seems to be habitual - I waited at least 30-45min for my Tiger Airways flight.

    You might need a univesal adaptor (preferable 2-pin) for your electronic gadgets. If you forgot to bring this along, don't worry. You can get it in Carrefour Hypermarket in Jungceylon, Patong. Or you can also rent it from the hotel reception with a small amount of refundable deposit.

  • Being a beach resort, swimming gear goes without saying; along with one's own goggles for swimming at own leisure (instead of renting snorkelling mask etc).

    An essential "medical" supply would be anti-seasickness pills for those prone to it and maybe some medicated oil to sooth headaches due to the speed of the boats.

    A shock-/dust-/water-proof (up to maybe 15metres) camera would come in handy for those underwater moments. Otherwise, an ordinary digital one would suffice.

    Insect repellant is a necessity! Where there's a beach, or maybe forest, there's bound to be vampiric insects that prefer my blood type. Sun screen/block lotions would also be compulsory.

    Lastly, a relak attitude would definitely help!
