Asia's first budget airline was bornt when Airasia took the skies for the very first time in Malaysia. Its first route is from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru. But slowly it has expanded its territory coverage to the whole of Malaysia.
With its new alliance with the Thai government, Airasia took the Thais by surprise when it signed a joint agreement with Thai Prime Minister's company, Shin Corporation to form Thailand's first low fare carrier. Airasia's Thai domestic airfares starts as low as 9 baht to as high as 600 baht for a way's ticket.
One way's ticket from either Bangkok to Phuket or from Phuket to Bangkok is priced at an incredible 500 bahts. However, the disadvantage is you need to book a couple of months before your departure. Be assured that Airasia frequently launches promotion.

Singapore is again proving to be a transit hub for air travllers around the world and region.
Tiger Airways, the third budget carrier to enter the Singapore budget airline maket, is providing fierce competition for the present Airasia and Valuair.
Its strategy is to fly anywhere within a 3 hour flying radius.
It plans to fly up to 10 destinations in the first year of operation, and up to 15 destinations in the second year. It will start with three daily flights to Bangkok and to Phuket and Hatyai once daily.

Air Asia is a no frills airline and is Asia's Answer to European no frills airlines like Ryan Air. However to avail of cheap tickets you must book well in advance. I booked my tickets from Bangkok to Phuket for 800 bhat and return ticket for 299 bhat which is cheaper than travelling by bus. If you include the expenses you incur on your trip by bus which include dinner, drinks it fall more expensive to travel by bus. You also save time as it takes just over an hour to reach Phuket from Bangkok by plane. Never experienced any delays but have heard of some complaints. However the price is great. Good looking air hostesses and plush leather seats.

I flew in from KL,and was suitably impressed with the facilities at the airport, very clean and efficient.Outside you're greeted by a couple of blokies offering taxis/transport to your hotels etc,no haqssle and reasonably priced,If I remember correctly about ?10 to Patong Beach, which was fine.

You can either go by bus from Bangkok to Phuket, but that takes about 14 hours or either go by plane. We chose for the second option. The flight took us about 1h30.
We chose for Thai Airways and booked via the Internet. Domestic flights in Thailand are really cheap!
