Well what can I say about Paradise Viewpoint Restaurant except that we were told last year not to bother going there as the food was terrible. I do not believe everything I hear and like to make my own mind up, but sad to say they were right.
The location is lovely perched on the cliff just past Kalim on the way to Kamala. We went there for lunch and as soon as we walked in we were recommended to try the fresh fish by the waitress. We sat down and asked for a menu, and then another person came over and advised us to have fish.
We were not interested in ordering any seafood etc so ordered a Beef Massaman curry, Chicken in curry sauce, Tempura prawns and drinks.
Straight away I am off to a bad start, my Cha Yen (Thai ice tea with milk) was shocking, it was like no other Cha Yen I have had before and believe me I have had thousands. Paradise Viewpoint also have my vote for the worst ever Beef Mussaman curry, it had about 6 tiny paper thin slices of beef and was extremely watery with absolutely no taste.
Gary’s Chicken in curry sauce was ordered very spicy, it was a tiny serve with no spice at all, so bland. Lucky for us the Tempura prawns were edible. Their basic Thai meals are quite expensive with our bill being 690baht for the 3 dishes, 1 small Singha and 1 Cha Yen.
We were so disappointed with the food and will definitely not be going back.
Kata Mama Seafood is quite a large restaurant at the southern end of Kata Beach. It is extremely popular with tourists due to the location on the beach. We have only eaten lunch here and it was ok, nothing special just ok.
Service can be quite slow and it can take many times to try and interrupt staff talking to one another, but once your order is taken the food comes out quickly.
I would not go out of my way to go to Kata Mama, but if I was on the beach and hungry then I would order from there.
Bang Pae Seafood is located in a beautiful setting on the edge of a mangrove forest with lots of shady trees and views of the ocean. It is also very popular on the weekends with Thai families as the food is delicious and the area is perfect to let children run around and play.
This is the sort of place that as soon as you sit down, you relax and just take in the views. The menu has a huge selection and there are also local dishes if you do not like seafood. The 4 dishes in my photos plus 5 no alcohol drinks came to 660baht.
Bang Pae Seafood is the perfect place for lunch but you will need a car or transport to get there. At the Heroines Monument turn off and drive towards Ao Por. After about 10 kilometers you will see the sign for the restaurant on your right.
Follow this road for a couple of minutes to the end and there is Bang Pae Restaurant. There is also plenty of car parking out the front of the restaurant.
Wai Thai Restaurant is one of the many restaurants that are in the Loma Park Complex on the beach road heading towards the northern end of Patong Beach. The staff are lovely, very happy and friendly; location is nice for dinner and for watching the sunset but can be very hot during the day.
Service is very good and they make a perfect drink. Average price for 4 people which included 4 main courses, 3 entrées, a large seafood fried rice, 4 beers and 4 vodkas was 1870baht.
Our prawns were very average but the rest of the food was delicious.
Every Saturday and Sunday at 6pm there is a fantastic barbeque on Nanai Rd at a place called Don’s BBQ. It is all you can eat for 249baht and there is a huge selection of meats such as delicious tender pork chops, spare ribs, sausages, chicken kebabs and sometimes even seafood and steaks.
We have eaten here a few times and it is most definitely the best barbeque place we have been to in Phuket. There is a huge variety of fresh salads including potato dishes such as mashed, chips and potato bake. We were so happy to see vegetables as well especially broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts as I was starting to crave a good veggie fix.
Don has really cornered the market with his bbq nights and there is something here to please everyone. The meat is tender and cooked to perfection! Drinks are well priced with a Singha costing 70baht and spirits 100baht. There is a good Thai selection as well.
Don’s BBQ is at the south end of Nanai Rd Patong in front of Makro and of course we highly recommend their barbeques.
Nice ambience with great location right on the beach with waves splashing next to you! Restaurant serves good variety of seafood with grill and fried dishes at reasonable price. The setting is quite decent, with good service.
We tried the crabs cooked in different styles, Tomyam soup and prawn starters. We found the prawns bit stale although the restaurant staff assured us that all seafood was "fresh". Perhaps it was fresh when they procured it, but am unsure how long it stayed in the freezer!
Those seeking Halal food, please notify the restaurant staff in advance, so they can prepare the food in separate utensils, as the Restaurant also serves pork products.
Favorite Dish: Chilli crab
Delicious, hygienic and affordable Halal food. Specialises in fresh / live, seafood with different flavours of your choice. They also serve beef, mutton and chicken dishes. The stall is managed by a Malay-Thai muslim couple, who would prepare the food as per your taste and liking. Do not miss their fresh pineapple juice ! The price is very reasonable.....we ordered large lobsters, crabs, tomyam soup, rice, vegetables, prawn starters and pineapple juice for a group of 4 persons.....costed us THB4000/-.
Favorite Dish: Chilli lobsters and Crabs in egg curry
The Irish Times has a similar menu and prices to Molly Malone's, so is more expensive than most places as they also add on taxes.
It is pot luck with the food here, sometimes it is ok, sometimes it is terrible. Their baguettes are delicious but the Potato & Leek soup was very tasteless) The all day breakfast, is huge and included, toast, coffee and juice.
The first breakfast was we had was delicious but the next time it was terrible, undercooked bacon and everything was cold! Another meal I tried was the Bangers and Mash, I was having a craving for some comfort food and this did not hit the spot, the sausages were horrible!
Happy Hour is from 1pm to 6pm
The Irish Times Pub is in the square (outside area) at Jungceylon shopping centre. I would not class it as a must do favorite of ours but if your in the area its good for a drink stop and more importantly they have fantastic clean toilets with loads of toilet paper.
Quarterdeck Bar & Restaurant is in a beautiful setting overlooking lush green gardens and magnificent boats. It is the type of place you could just sit and spend the day watching the activity around the Marina and relaxing.
The bar fridges would have to be the most well stocked fridges I have seen, beers from all around the world and they have the delicious Hoegaarden rosée on tap. There is also an extensive cocktail menu and prices are very reasonable. We are looking forward to coming back here for lunch or dinner next visit.
Re Ka Ta is a restaurant, bar, beach club, café and spa which is part of the Boathouse Hotel on Kata Beach. By day it looks very stark and not inviting at all, but at night it is quite pretty when all lit up with changing colored lights.
Every Thursday is Ladies Night with free express manicures and a free martini on arrival. Select drinks are also 50% discount for the night. So this is the best time to visit as drinks are quite expensive here. The night we went I was filmed having a manicure by Phuket Gazette for their television show. So my manicure was quite good and not the normal very quick express one.
Lovely spot for sunset drinks.
On the east coast of Phuket in a little village just before the Ao Po Grand Marina is a fantastic rustic little restaurant called Lucky Seafood. The restaurant is very basic with views over the water and it is run by a lovely Thai family.
The food here is fantastic and very fresh; we had the best seafood fried rice, huge tiger prawns cooked in garlic, whole fish that were bigger than the plates and delicious fresh vegetables. The total bill for 5 of us was including drinks was only 3000baht.
We highly recommend Lucky Seafood if you are looking for somewhere out of the tourist areas.
The Absolute Ceylon Pub is located just outside the second building of Jungceylon shopping centre, it faces the Banzaan fresh food markets. If we are shopping inside then we will call in to Absolute for a drink.
The sandwiches and light snacks are ok if your just after a quick bite to eat. I would not go out of my way to eat here though.
The pub has pool tables and live entertainment, plus the toilets are nice and clean!
Number 9 restaurant would have to be up there among our favorite restaurants in the Patong area. We have enjoyed every meal we have had there, prices are great for food and drinks plus the staff are wonderful.
The restaurant is on Phra Barami Road opposite the Patong Paragon Hotel.
If your walking there from Rat-u-Thit Road keep walking north to the end of the road then turn left towards the beach, No. 9 is halfway down on your left.
Try their crepes and ice-cream, its delicious, the crepe is wrapped like a bow with ice-cream in the middle and lashings of chocolate sauce and whipped cream, all for 100 baht!
Thai meals range from 100 - 125baht, a beer will cost you 70baht and a spirits and mix 90baht.
There is also a good selection of European and Western meals.
We have been going to the Islander Bar & Restaurant for 17 years now and their prices for food and drinks are excellent. The menu consists of English, Thai and International foods.
Meals are huge and all of the imported meat is from Australia and New Zealand.
Their Bangers and Mash is the best!
The best breakfast in Phuket can be found here, it is called the All Day Big British Breakfast for 220 Baht, this includes: Cumberland sausages, English short back bacon, Eggs - any style, baked beans, fried tomatoes, sautéed potatoes, toast with butter and jam, tea or coffee and fruit juice.
Their roasts are great as well!
The Islander Bar & Restaurant has great staff, is family friendly and has good clean western toilets.
There are quite a few televisions and most sports are shown live.
We highly recommend dropping by for a drink or meal.
Favorite Dish: We love the All Day Big British Breakfast, its huge and only cost 200Baht!!
Nothing tastes better when you have had a big night the night before.
English shortback bacon
Toast (with butter & jam)
Mug of tea or…Coffee
Delish is an Australian owned Café on the way to Rawai, we have had lunch here a few times as after so long in Phuket we were just craving a good toasted sandwich.
Delish did not disappoint. Service can be a bit on the slow side sometimes but the quality of the food makes up for it, as do the delicious homemade cakes on offer.
Prices are on par for western food in Phuket. We hear they have a good breakfast so will try that next visit.
If you are out this way then Delish is worth a stop even if it's just for a nice icy cold milkshake.
Our latest visit to Delish was not as good as previous visits, the sausage toasted sandwich was terrible, it looked and tasted like the sausage had been boiled then quickly fried as you can see from the photos below, it was also very hard to eat as the sausages were not sliced down the middle like before. My vanilla milkshake tasted like watered down icy milk - very disappointing!
