Snorkelling and Scuba Shops in Phuket

by machomikemd Written Nov 2, 2012

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

there are tons and tons of scuba and snorkelling stores and booths in and around the phuket area and if you arrived at Phuket with your complete snorkelling or scuba gear with you luggage, then you would not need to get into these shops. the shops offer the usual snorkelling and scuba gears for rent like flippers at 100 baht, diver's suit at 500 baht, snorkelling gear at 300 baht and they also sell assorted products like beach slippers, swimming trunks, mailottes, goggles, sarongs, beach hats and more. just be sure to bring extra cash as some of these shops don't accept credit cards and other accept credit cards but with a 3% surcharge.

Equipment: all the snorkelling and scuba gears that you may need and some more items like board shorts, sun block, shades, flip flops and more.

    Thai boxing

by georeiser Updated Apr 4, 2011

Phuket MuayThai Training Camp is a training camp for Thai boxers. But it's also possible for other tourists to train here, like I did.
I trained there one week during a 3 weeks holiday. If you like Thai boxing or want to increase your knowledge of self defence, why not? You will get a private trainer.

    Morning Training: 7am to 11am
    Afternoon Training: 3pm to 7pm

    Thai Boxing

by lindyz Updated Oct 9, 2010

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Thai boxing is obviously very popular in Patong. There is a HUGE stadium near Bangla Road in central Patong and there are cars driving around the streets every day with boxers on board and giving details of when the next fight night is on! Plus many stalls are selling the silk boxing shorts, so it is obviously very popular.

Takraw, or kick volleyball, is a sport that seems popular around South East Asia and it closely resembles volleyball.

The main difference is that they use a rattan ball and players are only allowed to use their feet, knees, chest and head to hit the ball over a net.

I asked to join in with a game across the road from my hotel and the local lads cheerily obliged. But they were way too skilful for me!

    Loch Palm Golf course

by kenari Written Feb 6, 2008

Located just 7 kms. from Phuket Town and Patong Beach, about 15 minutes from Patong.

Nestling below a panoramic range of peaks, and sandwiched between the Katu Waterfalls and Katu Village the layout surrounds the largest lake on any golf course in Phuket, Crystal Lake, 48 acres in size, and its smaller sister lake, which give golfers a refreshing breeze off the water.

The course is in great shape. It is a very good layout and one that is beginning to rival some of the best layouts on the island as the refurbishment matures. You are required to put your thinking cap on and keep perfect control of your game on this tightly routed layout.

Equipment: Bring more ball if you are beginner

scuba diving @ Koh Racha yai

by schwein Written Oct 1, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The diving in Thailand is great.

Warm water, good vis, and an abundance of things to see.
I've been before, and will come again...

We did 2 dives at Koh Racha yai. Saw eels, boxfish, an octopuss, and many other cool things...

Will definately do a liveabord in the Similans next trip to Thailand.

Equipment: I hooked up with www.seaking-diving.com / West Coast Divers before leaving.

A small operation, but has qualified, good instructors.
We got a great deal, with two of us doing our AOW through them for 11,000B each, including all books, equipment rentals for the equipment we didn't bring, and transportation/meals.

    Riding at Rawai

    by susu77 Updated Oct 26, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You can take a ride of 1, 1½ or two hours. Prize was reasonable. There was just me riding with the smily instructor who wanted to discuss about everything but couldnt speak any english. We ride thrue settlement, on rawai beach and in jungle and gumtreeplantation. Galloping on a beach was almost a bit too exiting for me. Beach was quite dirty than year 2005 not so long after tsunami but year after it looked ok. Well, its not the nicest beach of Phuket but good for riding.
    Unforgettable experience!

  • Golf Phuket

by Sammyfloyd Written May 2, 2006

Phuket has some wonderful golf courses and has some of the best value as well. My top reommendation is Loch Palm Golf Club (between Phuket Town and Patong). Course is interesting with water and terrain and the conditions are excellent, and you can ride the golf cart right to the ball which is important in the heat. Green fees with caddy and cart are around US$80. It's definitely worth the money if you like golf.

Laguna Phuket Golf Club in the Laguna area is a resort course that is very easy. Good practice course. Green fee around the same as Loch Palm. Advance golfers would probably find it boring.

Blue Canyon Country Club (near airport)--Canyon course is world famous and is justifiably so with its fantastic layout in the hills. It is also very difficult. However, it is also very expensive at US$150 green fee and caddy (walking only). The Lakes course, at half the price, is being renovated until November 2006.

Equipment: Golf clubs, shoes, plenty of balls and sunscreen.

Dive Koh Doc Mai and Phi Phi islands

by trisanna Updated Aug 30, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We went diving with Santana diving (which were great) and went on three dives, two at Koh Doc Mai and another by an island (Koh Bida Nok) off of Phi Phi Le. As it's August and their off season. During this time, it may be better to dive Racha Yai, since it's sheltered. Where we dived, there was a little bit of current. Very rough around Phi Phi islands. Got really banged up trying to get into the boat. Visibility around 10 meters or so. Saw lionfish, shrimp, scorpion fish, large colorful schools of fish. Beautiful large pink sea fans at Koh Doc Mai. The highlight of the dive was seeing a gentle and stunning leopard shark, which swam right up to us. A cobia fish accompanied the large shark, which is rare, since they usually swim with whale sharks. Sadly, we didn't see any whale sharks.

    Dive Racha Yai

by trisanna Written Jun 1, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We did a day trip from Phuket to Racha Yai. It's a hour or hour and half boat ride to this island. Even though we went during the monsoon season-the visibility was quite good. Both dives were around 18-20 meters. The first dive we saw an octopus, moray eels and lots of fish. Very healthy coral. Second dive we saw a small wreck. Went with South Siam divers, http://www.southsiamdivers.com/
They did a good job was suspicious at first due to the large number, but after our first briefing by the top divemaster, he divided us into small groups-usually 4 to 5 people per group. Very professional and friendly. Their boats have air compressors on board-so they could fill the tanks and you wouldn't mess with your bcds and other equipment.
