Thai Massage
  • Tip Rating:
  • Massage parlors in Phuket offering Thai Massage are like mushrooms that pops out anywhere in the area.

We had several sessions of foot massage and Thai massage. And as always...its Good!

After a tiring walk or after a physical activity that you do..the best way is just to have a good massage for your tired feet and body.

    Foot Massage:
    250-350THB

    Thai Massage:
    500-700THB

    Elephants: Kok Chang Safari
  • Tip Rating:
  • This place is amazing.

There also happens to be 2 gorgeous White Palmed gibbons there Charley and Lum Yai, who are free to do whatever they like when they come in from the jungle.

The Centre is located in the Kata Nai Harn Hills at the Southern end of Phuket Island.

Once you are on the Kata Viewpoint road, about 1 kilometer south of the viewpoint, 50 meters after the elephant crossing road sign just before you begin climbing the hill to the summit you will find the Centre.

The Kata Viewpoint is marked on Phuket maps

The easiest way to see this place is to contact Richard on: richard@phuket-scuba-diving.com this is his personal email and is also the email for the Dive and Adventure Company that he and Megumi own.

There is a more detailed report on the centre here with info on prices for the Elephant trek, Transfer costs, photos, how to contact Richard etc:

    Patongs crowded beach

Patong is Phukets most known Beach.

It has a wide and long curved sandy beach.

Behind the Beach is the main Road and on that road the Hotels (also higher ones), the numerous Shops and Tailors and Restaurants.

Patong is the place you go, if you want to be in the middle of things. Here is the Center for watersports (of course you can also go elsewhere), here is the place for Nightlife, the biggest selection of restaurants (Japanese, Thai, French, Italian, German, Indian, ..) and so many tailors you will never find out who is the best (though they all claim its them).

Tuk Tuks bring you from one end of the Beach to the other (well, you can also walk the 3 km)....(very important: do not forget to set the price befor driving)

The "other side" you see in my picture. This may not be your place if you are here for a little quiet ...
but of course you can also go to one of the many other beaches- they are quieter. And not soo far away, either.

James Bond island: Skip Phi Phi head for James Bond Island
  • Tip Rating:
  • Perhaps the best day trip on Phuket Island - If you have to choose one tour, pass the Phi Phi and go to James Bond. Either way you'll end up sunning/snokeling on the very same Island in the afternoon - all the boats (with all the company's) go there. But on the James Bond Tour you'll see the Mangrove Forests, Lunch at a Muslim fishing village built on stilts above the water, see the amazing landscapes and beautiful blue waters of the islands, and snorkel. We went on 3 boat tours with 3 different company's. They were so similar, no real difference in ammenities - but the James Bond tour stood out. Phi Phi Island is further out to sea and even in the calmer morning waters it can be a very jarring trip. Be careful if a storm is forcasted - your inners & back could be hurtin later. James Bond Island is amid the intercoastal waterways and therefore more protected from the weather and rough sea.

Phi Phi islands: PhiPhi+Khai by speedboat Part 4
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is Monkey Beach on Phi Phi Don, where we stopped for half hour for snorkelling. There are fishes here but the corals are brownish and not really colorful. Maybe these are dead corals.

There are many spiky Sea Urchins here, somebody actually stepped on one during this trip, so be careful and wear fins to be safe.

This is stop 4 of tour, snorkelling location 2.

There is supposed to be another snorkelling location at Hin Klang, a beautiful coral reef area, but due to whatever reasons, we won't be going there, a pity.

James Bond island: 3 in 1- Afternoon James Bond Tour
  • Tip Rating:
  • We were picked up from the hotel at about 12pm and had quite a long 1-11/2 hour coach ride to Suwankuha Temple(Monkey Cave), our first stop.

We did not really enjoy the place as there were lots of wild monkeys always following us around to try to get food or grab food fom you.

Next we had the long boat ride to see the 32 sea mountains of Phang nga bay. These mountains are really magnificent and awesome. Beautiful!

Then we stop at the amazing James Bond Island. The mountains and rock formations are incridible.A must see to really see the beautiful unspoilt side of Phuket which Phuket town and Patong are not able to offer.

Then we were taken to Panyee Island or the floating fishing village. This is a muslim village so the first thing we did was tucked in for late lunch. The whole village is build on water and its quite an experience! Wish I had more time to explore the place.

I managed to get good bargains on some materials and bracelets here. Bargaining is a must. Always lower 1/2 or better 3/4 of the price quoted, walk away and you will get the price you want.

Price for this trip: 700 baht adults
    500 baht kids
    Got a discount for 2 kids-free.

    Definitely a must go!

    Parasailing
  • Tip Rating:
  • Do you want to have magnificent bird's eye view of Patong Beach? Then try the famous activity of the island, Parasailing

A harness on your tighs plus additional support on your shoulders and you will be up up and away.

Ive also tried this activity in the Philippines and the service and safety is way too far from the service and safety that they provide here in Phuket.

As per our experienced in Phuket, they just let us run from the beach as you take off and land. There is no pre cautionary measures being done. Breaking your legs and hitting the ground are of great possibilty.

You can find alot free lance operators of this activity along Patong beach. Just pick the one who offer a good price, longer time and SAFE.

Price Ranges from 2,00THB to 2,500THB for 10 minutes.

Gibbon Rehabilation centre: The Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre
  • Tip Rating:
  • Gibbon away from human contact - Phuket
    Gibbon away from human contact
    by Tina-Perth
    Send Photo to a Friend
The Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre at Khao Phra Thaew Forest Reserve is the world's first permanent program to rehabilitate captive Gibbons. It was created by a couple who began rescuing and rehabilitating Gibbons in their backyard in Bangkok.

In 1992 it became illegal to own a Gibbon so many Gibbons had to be released or handed over. As all Gibbons are stolen as young babies, they have no life skills and so need rehabilitation. The mothers are shot in order to steal the baby but apparently the baby also dies 9 out of 10 times. Other Gibbons in the group may come to try to rescue the baby and often also end up being shot, so many Gibbons can be lost to poach just one baby.

The Centre is run by international volunteers who are studying animals. Unfortunately for visitors, but fortunately for the Gibbons, you are not able to get too close to the Gibbons as they are trying to adjust them to minimal human contact. Apparently new people close to them causes them a lot of stress, including when new volunteers start. People are asked not to try to imitate the calls of the Gibbons either as it causes them stress and confuses them about their hierarchical structure.

Many of the Gibbons have been mistreated by their owners including being beaten severely for biting. There is one Gibbon at the sanctuary that never can be released because she bit a child and was beaten so badly that her hand and a foot were amputated. You can sponsor a Gibbon for a year for 1, 500 baht which is only about $45. For this you also get a t-shirt, a picture, story & regular updates. If you don't take the t-shirt, the centre can save more money for the Gibbons.

The Gibbons are not the only reason to visit. The park is a beautiful lush rainforest and the Bang Pae waterfall is lovely to visit. The mosquitos are quite bad, but they sell repellant for 60 baht.

Entry fee is 100 baht per non-Thai to the park. There is no entry fee to the Gibbons, but donations are gratefully received. The park is not open on weekends or Phuket public holidays.

More excursions and shows: Go north - one day safari
  • Tip Rating:
  • There are a lot of excursions and trips you can book in Phuket.

Some stay on the island, others don't.

We decided for a trip north.
A one day safari consisting of:
    Lone beaches,
    short hike through jungle,
    boating up a river,
    visit of a shrimp farm,
    showering under a waterfall,
    elefant trekking.

It was an awfull lot of driving, though- and in a jeep. But some views were just worth it.
On the picture you see the waterfall.
