On the 4th day we decide to visit Coral Island. The whole day trip, which is not really a whole day, just 9am -2/3pm(depending on the tide) costs 650 baht for adults and 500 for kids. Tour includes: transfer by minivan speed boat lunch mask, snorkel and life jacket beach chair We were picked up from our hotel at about 9am to Chalong Bay. There we took our speed boat. Just before you take your boat a man will be snapping your pictures, so be prepared to part with 100 baht for each picture cos your pic will be framed in a nice plate at the end of the trip. Its hard not to buy cos it looks so nice. They did the same thing for our James Bond island tour. So we have like 4 souvenior plates now. The ride on the boat was bumpy as the water was choppy and we were told that the water is not so clear as the weather has not been so good. Luckily for us it did not rain, as it did the day before. The island was nice and the sand was soft and white, water was not crystal clear but much better than Patong of course. Its advisable to bring bread for the fishes. You can get them to come closer to you, that was nice. Lunch was served at 12, al fresco, by the beach-cool. I expected some packed lunch thrown in but it was a wonderful servings of fried rice, fried chicken, soup, fried squids, sweet and sour fish, mixed vegetables and fresh fruits!! You have to buy your own soft drinks at 77 baht or 40baht for a coconut drink. After that it was more swimming, snorkelling and sand playing for the kids. This is a nice place to go to if you cant go to Phi Phi island. Definitely a must. Leave a Comment Address: Coral island Resort

a little ray by stiab3 Some of the best dive sites in the world are neat Phuket Island. I did a trip (two-tanker) to a spot off Koh Racha Yai. Visibility was good, even though the sea was a bit rough. I saw lots of sea-life, dozens of sea cucumbers, and even a small ray. Unfortunately my trip to Similan got called off because of foul weather. Directions: There are loads of dive operations in Phuket. So there's plenty of oppurtunity to go diving!

You definitely need to dive when you're at Phuket. It's just amazing and there are many dive sites. Here are some tips for selecting a good dive operator: They mostly cost the same, and offer the same services. I would personally recommend Dive The World on Ratuthid Road (www.divetheworldthailand) because the Liveaboard prices are the most reasonable, and the service is great. Diego is the man! Decide where you want to go first, because the dive operators, I think, are booking on the same pool of boats, meaning it works like an alliance, even though they are actually competing. There are many options available so you have to decide where you want to go first and for how long. Then it's best to talk to the people at the dive centers for a best schedule for yourself. Most of the time, the packages on the site are what they tell you about but you can negotiate and discuss with them when you get to Phuket itself. Going for longer trips in a package is always cheaper, if you can afford the time. Liveaboards are definitely the best value for diving. Try to plan a long time ahead of your trip so that you don't miss the liveaboard dates for boats! Also, most dive operators are able to help you book for a room. After I've done all my research and confusing searching, I realized that from Phuket, it's best to dive with Dive The World. I didn't think they were cheap until I started comparing the rates for a second trip to Phuket to dive, or even just for day trips. Leave a Comment

Night fishing, Phuket by tashka Well, it was fun, but, I guess, too expensive. We paid $60 each of us, and we were three people on the boat. The captain provided the bait (pieces of mackerel) and fishing-lines with sinkers and hooks. Warning: our guide promised us we would catch a tuna at least. In fact all we caught were a dozen of redfish and a fish that looked like a snake (the captain went pale at the sight it and kicked it out of the boat back into the water. By the way, this beast bit off half of the hook!!!). The sea was quite stormy, we got wet and cut our fingers with the fishing line. But on the whole it was fun. If you find it cheaper, try it. We took some fish with us to the hotel, and the hotel restaurant cooked it for us for just 150 baht. Leave a Comment

Fishes in Coral Island Beach by picknick Sign up for a snorkelling trip to Coral Island, only 15 mins by speedboat. I paid 600BAHT per pax for this trip (I did not bargain, so might be possible to get lower). Morning pickup from hotel to pier, then off to the island. Mask, lifejacket, beach chair and a nice filling lunch provided, but you have to pay for drinks. Fairly good reef accessible from the beach of the Coral Island Resort, lots of fishes. 2:30PM is the time to board tyhe speedboat back to Phuket. Overall, a fairly cheap and enjoyable way to spend your day. Will try Khai Island snorkelling next time, heard that is great too. Leave a Comment

Yellow submarine by stiab3 If you're not into scubadiving and would still like to experience the underwater life, then try the submarine. The dives are off of the Southeast coast of Phuket where there is quite a lot to see. A speedboat takes you to the submarine - the ride is a bit long but it's bearable. I slept on the way back. When I was there in 2004, it cost 2500baht for an adult. I got a massive discount cause I was there in May and it's not peak season.

From Batong beach you can take longtail boat to Freedom beach what is about 20 minutes boatdrive from Patong. Not expencive at all. Depends of the boat how meny you can fit in but atleast 6 people. Remember to pargain. Its about 3€ per person I think. The boatdriver usually has the snorkeling equipment for you but you can also rent them when there. He will also wait as long as you want to stay at freedom. You can see quite big fish and interesting rocks and corals of course. But you need to be careful, never put your feet down and dont touch anything. One of us met there a snakefish, about a meter long with brown and white stripes. It can kill you.. Snorkeling is quite safe if you let the creatures be and just watch them from the surface. And you can always choose how far you go from the shore. Remember to take some bread with you to feed the fish. Directions: Longtailboat from Patong beach

At Phi Phi island is very small and very easy to get accommodation, all can be seen online. I always suggest people to stay for a day or two, just to relax from hang overs carring from Patong and enjoy silence. All you have to do is to book a standard cruise and make an agreement when to pick you up. There are 2 daily boats operated Phuket-Phi Phi-Phuket, one in the morning and another around noon.

Phuket Island has long been recognized as the regional center for daytrip scuba diving, liveaboard diving and scuba diving courses on the "Andaman Sea " coast of Thailand. Both beginners and experienced divers enjoy the aquarium style underwater scenery while diving at the local Phuket and Phi Phi world class dive sites. The 85 meter long "King Cruiser Ferry" wreck close to "Anemone Reef'" and the exciting "Shark Point" that is named after the harmless Leopard Sharks who bask on the sandy bottom are just a few of the exciting locations visited by the boats departing daily from Chalong Bay. Wall diving, drift diving, deep diving, night diving and some fantastic opportunities for normal and macro underwater photography are available in the area. Daytrip scuba diving from Phuket, the Phi Phi and the Racha Islands dive sites operate throughout the year offering a choice of 2, 3 or 4 dives per day for a single day's diving and many overnight trips are available. The size of the average Phuket dive boat is about 22 meters in length and they are designed to carry divers safely and comfortably to the local dive sites with full meals served on board depending on the number of dives offered during the day. Departures are generally early in the mornings, however now there are options available that allow for guests to sleep in and enjoy the hotel buffet breakfasts and do their diving from small high speed boats and less divers in the groups then the larger boats.
