This is a must do, even if you are not an avid fisher! The excursion starts earlier than I like to get up, like 7am, but the bus picks you up from Patong Beach and drives you to the marina. From there, you board your little fishing boat, meet your guide who feeds you, and there begins the adventure! Off you go through rolling waves (I suggest motion sickness tablets!), trolling for tuna and other big fish all the way. If you catch something, you eat it for lunch... mmm tuna... and then stop and swim in clear, green gorgeous waters in the Andaman Sea. But the fun doesn't stop there...full and refreshed, and a little salty, you continue on to use real Thai fishing rods and squid to catch the not so big fish! For something like $400, my five friends and I chartered a boat for a day of fishing. They pick you up at your hotel and bring you to the pier. No hassles, all the rods, tackle, bait, etc. are there. If you aren't into baiting your own hooks, the deckboy does that as well as unhooking your fish, cleaning them, and all that messy stuff. We brought our own liquor and made cocktails. The crew made lunch and provided soft drinks. All in all, one heck of a good day! Don't forget to tip the crew if you have a good trip... Directions: We went out towards Phi Phi Island from the east side of Phuket. Even if you don't like fishing, there's nothing like a day out on a boat.
