    Khai Island was such fun! Beautiful beach, areas where you can relax and sun yourself with all the other tourists, or you can easily walk around the island to find peace and a sandy beach. The absolute highlight was wading into the clear water and holding a banana and feeding swarms of tropical fish by hand!

  • Directions: You can easily go to your hotel/hostel or any travel agent in Phuket and arrange for someone to pick you up and take you to Khai Island. It is very close to Phuket.

  • Man, it was so beautiful. It was my first and only time in my life that I've been into the deep ocean. I was hella scared but it was so beautiful.

    One thing that is a must when in Patong is diving. The waters are crystal clear and the sea life is unforgetable. Even if you haven't gone diving before and don't have a license, there are dives for beginners where a dive instructor accompanies you on the dive and you only decend to a depth of 14 meters. On the day, a bus picks you up from the hotel, and takes you to a big boat and you're served lunch on the boat. You return to Patong in time to take an evening stroll along Patong beach. My first ever dive was in Phuket and after that dive I fell in love with it. Now I'm an advanced diver with at least 30 dives under my belt. Ive diven in several countries but the thai dives are by far the best. If you're scared of the water, like I was on my first dive, I still suggest you try it because once you jump into the water with all your gear, you're too busy thinking about all your gear, remembering the steps, and trying to understand your instructors hand signals that you forget completely about big sharks, etc...

    Phuket has such a strategic location that you have easy access to many diving sites. There are some dive sites in Southern islands and also in Andaman Sea you have plenty of options like Koh Bon, Koh Tachai, Similan Islands. Daily trips will take you to Southern islands, but if you arrange an LOB, you can enjoy the other dive sites. For Andaman dive sites, LOBs usually start from Khao Lak, but from Phuket many divers flock there. If you have enough time for an LOB, you can arrange everything from Phuket. I took a 4D/4N LOB which started from Khao Lak and involved Andaman dive sites. I arranged everything through Dive Den in Phuket. Alan who owns Dive Den took care of all the arrangements. I just gave him the time of arrival and departure for Phuket and preferred period for LOB. He found the package suitable for my requirements and I had a fantastic diving experience.     Scuba Diving When people talk about it, some may say it is expensive and dangerous. Well they are almost right... But think about it.. We, human, spending more money to study the universe than study the living cretures, which have been preserved and time freezed. Just look at few of under water photos of islands near by Phuket and you may have change your mind. Racha Island is located 20 kilometers southeast of Phuket. There are 2 Islands, Racha Yai and Racha Noi. In Thai Racha means king, and it does make lot of sanse because the underwater life around this group of islands are really outstanding. Even after the Shunami, things are not what it used to be but all the same breath taking. PS.     Snoorking at Maya Bay looks fantasic experience and like not to end....this was my first experience and before i did scared but then wear the life jacket and all equipment to start in low water depth and then feel confidence to move forward... the main reason to scaring is that i did not know swiming....but however i did snoorking not as professional but as beginer....the main idea i did enjoy this event and now think would be more confident in future......

  • So many dive sites around and reaosnable prices then you have no excuse but to get down there. The Similans are incredible but there are closer, good dive sites particularly around Phi Phi. Lots of competition from companies but I recommend Live And Let Dive for reasonable deals, good experienced and impartial advice and very friendly service.

  • Take a look at Cathy & Gary's travelpages and on this link you will find photos, itinerary, costs, comments from other members from 3 different travel forums and even the menu for the all-you-can-eat BBQ that is part of the evening. The Friday night all-you-can-eat BBQ is at the "Mamma's & Pappas's restuarent in a rural jungle community in the South of Phuket about 100 meters down the road and across the street from "Don's Mall" The western style BBQ dinner is only 150 baht and 100 baht for jugs of Thai Chang beer. This restaurant, bar, mini golf is in the middle of nowhere and so busy you have to reserve your spaces early the day before. When they make the reservations they work out the transfer routes with guests sharing cars and it costs 150 per person for the return trip each unless you are staying outside the transfer zone. Dinner begins at 6:00 PM and afterwards at 7:30 PM the drivers return to transport everyone farther South down to the "Sunshine Bar" on Rawai Beach for some good music and great improvised entertainment around the "Dreaded Pole"! Because of families and many others who have tours or activities planed for the next day the return transfers to your hotels are arranged for 10:00 PM. I would not recommend this evening for children 4 years old or younger and no special arrangements are available for guests who choose to leave earlier then the regular scheduled departure time. For those of you and your families that would like to have a good feed and some fun with the people you are talking with on the forums then feel free to get in touch before 6:00 PM every Thursday night. To make a booking they must receive an e-mail from you with the fallowing info that is needed to make the reservations for the BBQ restaurant and to organize the drivers for the transfers. Where will you be staying in Phuket? The name that you will be registered under? How many persons in your group? And the exact date that you would like to attend?

    The King Cruiser sank in 1997 after missing its course and hitting a reef half way between Phi Phi and Phuket. The wreck lays on 32 meters of sand and has changed structure quiet a bit over the last years, making wreck penetration almost impossible. Many reef fish are at home on the wreck site. Visibility varies and it is not really a pleasent dive site during the low season or low visibility. Dive trips are organized from both Phuket or Phi Phi Island.

    The day long boat trip took us thru various islands - phi phi island was the main stop where we have lunch - The speed boat trip was well managed and organized with refreshments on board - drinks, fruits etc we stopped, hoped on and off the islands for snorkeling , swimming and other stuff - it was a great experience - full day tour - very refreshing -
