Floating village: Koh Panyi
  • Tip Rating:
  • Koh Panyi is a Muslim fishing village built on stilts next to a limestone mountain. Most tours to Phang Nga bay stop here for lunch at one of several restaurants. It is worth taking a walk round the village and see the way of life of some of the locals and some of the pets they keep. It is possible to go into the mosque provided that you dressed properly and it is not time for prayers.
When all the tourist have left, the restaurants are shut up and the village returns to its normal peace and quiet and the daily routines of fishing continue.

  • This muslim floating village is a wonderful way to end your visit to this magnificent national park. The only thing I heard during my 2 hours there was the odd "Dragon boat" team training, and that was part ot Thailand culture so I didnt mind in the slightest.

    Floating village: Panyi Village
  • Tip Rating:
  • This was the main reason for us going on the Phang Nga trip 2 years in a row. We love this village. Beware, after you are done eating lunch at the restaurant find your way out into the village. Open closed doors. They tried to trick us into staying in one store while we were there have clothing racks block the entrances into the village. Because we were there last year we knew what to do and just started opening doors, eventually we made our way out of their self imposed prison! You must walk around the village to see the school and Mosque.

    Floating village: Phang Nga Bay
  • Tip Rating:
  • An entirely Muslim community floating in the water. Even the mosque, and shops were built on the wooden structures that hold the paths and houses more than one meter upon water level. What happened to it with the tsunami? I’m afraid to only think about it. We had lunch there. Nothing to remember, except the site.

Floating village: Koh Pannyi village. Phang Nga Bay.
A small interesting muslim village of 400 inhabitants located under a huge lime stone cliff in Phang Nga Bay. Houses are built above the water on wood piles, and in the main village alley there are plenty of shops. Almost all the one day tours to the bay, stop here for lunch. There are several restaurants to choose from, i enjoyed a great thai seafood dish with rice.

Floating village: Muslim Floating Fishing Village
I visited the Muslim Floating Fishing Village as part of a tour from Phuket Adventures. The tour included:

    James Bong Island
    Phan Nga Bay
    Lunch at the Floating Village
    Snorkeling
Lounging at a small island in the afternoon

The lunch at this village was delicous and the grounds interesting. It is perched along the rocks of Phan Nga Bay and flourished with the popular fishing industry of the area. Now the village has changed through time and exposure to the tourist industry and features a large dining area which accommodates tours and many shops. WARNING!!! The shops at this village are MASSIVELY overpriced. They will ask 30$ for a "pearl" bracelet but I witness the shopkeepers gladly accept 2$ for that same bracelet. Their products are MADLY overpriced. Do not buy a thing here, and if they advertise items to be pearl or other precious stone buy at your own risk.

Take a picture with the villages gibbon for a couple bucks!! Good fun!

The grounds are interesting to walk around in and take pictures, it definately is a different way of life.
