The mountains and beaches of Phuket are about as beautiful as any that you will see anywhere.
This photo was taken from a lookout on the hills above Kata beach.
Some of the views of the coastline and beaches from the mountains around Kata beach and Kata Noi beaches in particular are sensational, as is the road from there to Rawai beach.
Also the road from Patong to Karon beach also has some excellent viewpoints and you can stop for a Chang beer along the way like I did if you want. ;-)
My advice would be to get your own transport, weather it be bike or car and pack up the travel companions and just drive the island.
Then you can stop off where-ever you want to.
I would start with the southern tip of the island and have a sensational seafood lunch in Rawai beach.

    before rain

Kata Viewpoint is a good spot to enjoy scene of the sea, 3 bays ; Kata Noi, Kata and Karon. The view point located just few minutes drive away south from Kata beach. After we enjoyed the great view, at the view point we rest at public pavilion where all around, some food stalls, food vendors, drinks and small souvenir shops set up.

This is a beautiful golden sand beach for relaxing in the sun and swimming in the very clear blue and warm sea.

The day passes by slowly as you take up your sunbed under an umbrella (US$4 p/day). Lay around, take a dip, lay around, have a cold drink delivered to you, lay around, take another dip, have the sand swept off your sunbed, lay around and eat an ice cream, take another dip.......it really can't get much more relaxing than this.

There are some beach sellers, but if you aren't interested just say "no thanks" and they will leave you to your relaxation.

We passed by this beach, when we were going to PromThep cape from Patong Beach. This was a quieter beach but the waves were much bigger. I couod see a small island, off the beach and was wondering if it a place of tourist interest.

We enjoyed at Kata beach before raining. Over the shore we saw a little island name Koh Poo or can say in English name crab island, they said because of its shape but I couldn’t see that shape hmmm just round shape I saw. I think to swim in this beach will be rather safer than Patong and Karon as the beach is shallow, also long and curving. Next to Kata beach is another small curving beach call Kata noi, another beautiful smaller one.

Kata and Kata Noi are two scenic beaches just south of Karon. Kata, the larger of the two, is one of the nicest beaches on the island. It is a small bay, not much more than a kilometer long wrapped in green mountains. Although the beach is public, it is dominated by the huge Club Med Resort, which has taken practically all the prime landsite. Kata village runs behind Club Med, with most of the development concentrated at either end of the bay.

Kata has a nice balance, with a fair portion of nightlife places combined with good amenities to go with a relaxed atmosphere, and natural beauty in abundance. It is a place ideal for those who don't like everything right in their face, yet with enough going on to keep most people happy.

Further south is Kata Noi Beach, another beautiful bay. The beaches are great for families, there is good snokerlling and the water is usually calm.

    Karon beach

by dragontml Written Dec 9, 2003

Just across low hill to the north of Kata, the long white beach of Karon stretches magnificently with pines and palms standing tall over the rolling sand dunes providing a unique scene. It is flourishing side by Side with Kata Beach, but is more placid. The sea water here is clean and the sand is powdery. It is one of the best places For swimming, diving and sun-bathing You can come from Kata to Karon easily by road or by a path along the coast.

Composed of 2 lovely beaches called Kata Yai (Big Kata) and Kata Noi (Small Kata). Kata Beach is a thriving resort, suitable for holiday makers who look for tranquil surroundings with a bright sun, white sand, a calm clear sea and a colorful underwater world. Kata is located only 6 km from the Chalong intersection. The way leading to the beach can overlook the elegant scene of Chalong Bay on the southern coast of the island. Except those who like to stay in a busy area. Kata beach has never disappointed any visitors. Various kinds of accommodations, restaurants, shops and aqua sports facilities are available to tourists of different tastes.

    View Point Sunset

This view point offers an overview of Kata Noi beach, Kata beach and Karon Noi beach. At the far left is called Pu Island.

It is located between Nai Harn beach and Kata Noi beach. If you are driving from Nai Harn to Kata Noi, you will most probably pass this View Point.

The best time to visit this place is in the morning around 5pm and in the evening 5.30pm. These timings are the best for those who likes to watch sunrise and sunset.

    Laem Sing Beach

Phuket is the number 1 tourist destination of Thailand, thanks to its beautiful beaches. Some beaches are trapped into mass tourism, but some other almost stay unspoilt. Here is a picture of the Laem Sing Beach, a very small beach between Kamala and Surin Beach. You have to take a short walk downstairs to arrive at this beautiful spot.

    kata beach

The most popular beach in Phuket is patong, in my opinion it's just good for shopping or night life as the seaside is full of water motobike that makes the colour of the sea water grey.
I particulary loved Kata beach just 5 minuts from Patong, but there are many other beautiful ones as Kambala beach or Sirun beach.

Karon and Kata are quieter and much cleaner beaches
than Patong are more like a family destination that are still unspoiled from mass tourism and developments
