Exploring REAL Jungle at Khao Sok National Park
Exploring gorgeous Khao Sok National Park (said by many to be the most beautiful national park in Thailand) was definitely my very best day on our Thailand trip a few weeks ago. Actually, I think it was one of the best days of my life. We joined a tour group (can't remember the name of the company but it is the Khao Sok tour offered in many brochures on Phuket for one or two days) which picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the park. This wasn't one of those lame tours I've read about where you go to some sort of farm and have a little elephant ride and see a show - far from that!
First we went river canoeing with a guide paddling for us. The park's mountains are great limestone karsts covered with trees, raising sharply above you like the mountains seen in Chinese paintings and the vegetation is so lush and thick and the canoes glide through many nice cool shady stetches canopied by the truly giant trees and bamboo. I was very pleased that the ride lasted much longer than I thought it would. We did see some wildlife. Our canoes then landed at a jungle lodge where we finished that part of the tour and had a very good lunch (included in the price) before elephant trekking.
All the elephants seemed to be very well-cared for and to respect and have affection for their handlers - the animals were very sweet and I was amazed by their gentleness and intelligence. The entire trek may have lasted about 1.5 hours (not taxing on the elephants) - it was simply gorgeous going through the jungle.
I think the tour cost about 60 US dollars per person and it was definitely worth the cost for the experience. There weren't any mosquitoes (this was in very late December). You will want to wear a pair of trainers or sports sandals (these would be better if you want to swim in the river as there are rocks on the bottom). Don't wear flip-flops as you have to go down an inclined path to get to the river. Not a terrible one though. You don't have to be very fit for this tour since it pretty much just requires sitting.Related to:

Try the Spa
A great way to treat yourself in Phuket is to have a Body Spa.
Usually includes sauna and massage...so many scents to choose from. They have lavander, chamomile, lemon, jasmine etc. You can request for an oil or lotion massage
Very relaxing way to pamper yourself..
Cave in the sea
Another highlight in the Pha Nga Bay: the drive- through cave.
The Islands and Rocks in the water here are made of limestone. Limestone is a very soft rock and water easily wears it of, especially if it is a little sour, too. So it is no wonder that many rocks at sea level are caved in.
Many tours visit this cave. I think the most fun would be with the sea kayaks. You can rent them and paddle yourself. Not only through the cave of course, but also around the many small islands in the area.Related to:
Orchid Farm and Butterflies
Orchids are wonderful and delicate - and where I come from, mostly too pricey to buy...
If you are flying with Thai Air you get at least one flower as a present.... so this must be the typical Thai flower...
Phuket has a big Orchid farm with lots of different species. They make quite a view. And through them there are butterflies torkeling from flower to flower.
You can also buy them here or let them ship home. The last chance to do that is at the airport BTW. I think they also have a shop there.Related to:
W(h)at is that? Phukets Temples
A Wat is a Buddhist Temple. There are quite a few on Phuket island.
Examples are Wat Phra Tong, Wat Naka, Wat Chalong and many more.
In Wat Chalong southwest of Phuket Town they worship the statues of Monks that were doing special under Rama V.
In Wat Phra Tong I took this picture of a stone roof.
I like the fine ornaments of the stile here.
On other places the have wood roofs -mostly red with golden edges.
It also pays to look for those Wats that are not named on the maps. There are real treasures out there!
Show some respect when visiting them. They are free to visit when they are not celebrating. Take off your shoes before entering a building.Related to:

James Bond Island
James Bond Island is considered as the famous of the 44 islands in Phuket. Plainly because a James Bond Film (Man with the Golden Gun) was shot here. It is also the reason why the island was renamed as such.
You can explore the island by visiting the caves, dipping your feet on the clear blue water, feeling the white sand and enjoying the view .
This will take you about 30 minutes.
Being with the company of 4 boys..what do you expect? Adventure, Thrill and Physically draining activity like GO Carting
The place that we tried for carting is being used by professionals although they provide carts which can be used for beginners.
Speed for beginners is 50-60KPH while for professionals, it can be upto 180KPH.
Helmet, gloves and wet towels are provided.
The sound of the carts can be ear bugging plus the smoke that it emits.
Price Per 10 minutes:
White Water Rafting
White Water Rafting another fun activity that you shouldnt miss. Though white water rafting in Bali is better than we had here, still its worth a try.
Here, they dont have safety pre cautions on what to do during emergencies and accidents that may occur during the rafting.
During the time when we were there, a lot of tourists are doing the activity and so every once in awhile we have to stop and give way. If you plan to go for a longer rafting, it is advisable to pay for it seperately coz if you avail it in package the rafting activity is very short.

OX Cart Riding
OX Cart Riding Yes you heard it right..ox cart riding..Though it may sound exciting to other people, as for me i didnt really enjoy riding it esp under the heat of the sun.
It is included in the package thats why we just gave it a try. Nothing special or nothing new for us...except maybe for those who havent seen an ox and tried to be pulled by it using a carriage
Go north - one day safari
There are a lot of excursions and trips you can book in Phuket.
Some stay on the island, others don't.
We decided for a trip north.
A one day safari consisting of:
short hike through jungle,
boating up a river,
visit of a shrimp farm,
showering under a waterfall,
It was an awfull lot of driving, though- and in a jeep. But some views were just worth it.
On the picture you see the waterfall.Related to:

Patong Beach is one of the famous beaches in Phuket. Its long, sandy and wide stretch of the beach are one of the many adjectives that attract tourists. You can do alot of activities like parasailing, jet skiing, sand castle building, jogging, sunbathing and of course the Sunset viewing.
Beach umbrellas are for rent while coffee shops and restaurants are just nearby just in case u want to have a cold frappucino or milk shake.
Billiard this activity maybe a common thing to do but this tip will just serve as an info to those who wants to play billiard esp at night.
Cool music, nice drinks plus a company of good people...one way of enjoying the night.
50THB per game
Pay a visit to the local market in Phuket Town. Then you get to see the whole range of Thai produce - fruits and vegetables.
I fell in love with some of the local fruits, namely look yee, rambutan and tamarinds. And I had the biggest guavas ever . . . they weren't so sweet though.Related to:

At least make a day tour the island
I stayed in town. In the first day I made a day tour, get around the island by local transport (Tuk Tuk). As about 70% of the island is mountainous so all along the way is in great landscape, great view, scene of mountain and sea view. I visited many beaches, very beautiful and famous in the west / south of the island, but peaceful, quieter along east coast. Some places is rather touristy and some just easy living areas, different in just few kms far apart. I enjoyed so much traveling around and met many nice locals. beside getting around the island, also good opportunity to see some other attractions such as some beautiful temples, the town is also nice, particularly around Ta Lang street. In the last day I even got a rental car drive it by myself. I recommend you to take at least one day tour the island then only just hang out at one area. It's worth!Related to:
Chalong Bay - more relaxed
Chalong Bay is one of the touristic not so overcrowded beaches in Phuket. There are accomodations here also - if you choose to have it a little more quiet.
Fishers are living and working here.
The beach (if I remember right) is also less sand and more stone.
But there are a lot of very nice places and sights here - and fish - you will never get any that is fresher!Related to:
