More beaches and caves: Laem Sing Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Phuket is the number 1 tourist destination of Thailand, thanks to its beautiful beaches. Some beaches are trapped into mass tourism, but some other almost stay unspoilt. Here is a picture of the Laem Sing Beach, a very small beach between Kamala and Surin Beach. You have to take a short walk downstairs to arrive at this beautiful spot.

More beaches and caves: Sea Kakayak
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nope... just in case you need to sweat it out by kakayak on the sea...instead you will be "driven" around by english-speaking friendly and warm thai guides. Go for the real thing-- John Gray's Hong by Starlight trip although it is 4 to 5 times more expensive than the others which are rapidly sprouting in Phuket. For one, our guides are very experience in marine biology and can tell you correct species (I know because I took marine biology before!) John gray's kakayak is the only company which bring you back to the caves when it is dark to give you a feel of how is it being in the cave in the day and night.

More beaches and caves: Hollow Karsts
  • Tip Rating:
  • The karsts are limestone formations and as you undoubtably know from your junior high science classes--limestone is a soft rock that is prone to erosion. When the limestone erodes from the inside out, caves are formed. When the karsts happen to be in the middle of the Andaman Sea, then the formations become sea caves accessible only by kayak or very low longtail boats. We were able to go into one karst cave, but we saw several kayakers who were making a day of it and exploring many of the hollow karsts.

More beaches and caves: Kamala Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Just 10 minutes north of Patong is the more laid back and family orientated Kamala Beach. Kamala beach is one of the largest and more popular beaches of Phuket. It is more peaceful here and without all the go-go bars and noise which makes it a perfect for family with young kids to hang around and relax at the beach. The Kamala beachfront is lined with public park area and natural Casuarina forest. The beach stretches across two mile crescent on the west coast.

More beaches and caves: Rawai beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Along from the se gypsy village is Rawai beach and although not great for swimming because of all the fishing activity, it is a lovely beach. There are boats that will take you out to the small off shore islands for parasailing and other water sports, and it is quieter that the main beach areas of Patong, Karon and Kata

More beaches and caves: Monkey Bay
  • Tip Rating:
  • On the one day where we finally had some sun, we booked a tour and went to some islands for some suntanning & snokerling. This is Monkey Bay, so called because monkeys are living here. We were not allowed to go down to the beach but we were given some rambutans to feed them where they can come close to the boat. [Please go to my Phi Phi Don travel page for more pictures of Monkey Bay]

The crystal clear blue water of the Famous Maya Bay are a treat to our eyes. The water is so clean and transparent that the corals and the marine life is clearly visible from the boat.

More beaches and caves: The Khai Island
  • Tip Rating:
  • Khai Island is a picturesque island off the East Coast of Phuket. The Island is quite small, fringed with a pristine white sandy beach and is ideal for snorkelling. Actually snorkelling is not necessary cuz even if u just stand there, you can get to see the fishes clearly. Though not much species of fishes found, and the fishes are not really colorful, but u can get a banana and feed them. It was really fun cuz there would be like 50 fishes biting the banana you are holding.. i got biten at my finger.. maybe it looked kinda like banana too.. hehe If you want to see more fishes and coral reefs, you have to get to the nearby even smaller island for some serious snorkelling.

Khai Island is great for relaxing but as small as it is, i think half day would be more than enough, unless u like to sunbath.. it is a great place to sunbath! A lot of tour agent organize 1day / half day trip to Khai, what they offer is more or less the same, transportation, lunch, etc. But the real difference would be the service quality.

More beaches and caves: Surin Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Surin Beach is situated on the west coast of Phuket. It is situated at the curving bay on the north of Kamala Beach and located at the foothills. You can picture yourself strolling on a powdery white sandy beach on Surin Beach. During rainy season, the huge waves are not safe for swimming or any water sports. But it is the place where you may witness beautiful sunsets in Phuket. Surin beachfront is where you will find many of the locals escaping from the touristy Patong Beach. Our gueshouse host highly recommend Surin and Laem Singh Beach for a relaxing holiday.
