    Exploring gorgeous Khao Sok National Park (said by many to be the most beautiful national park in Thailand) was definitely my very best day on our Thailand trip a few weeks ago. Actually, I think it was one of the best days of my life. We joined a tour group (can't remember the name of the company but it is the Khao Sok tour offered in many brochures on Phuket for one or two days) which picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the park. This wasn't one of those lame tours I've read about where you go to some sort of farm and have a little elephant ride and see a show - far from that!

    First we went river canoeing with a guide paddling for us. The park's mountains are great limestone karsts covered with trees, raising sharply above you like the mountains seen in Chinese paintings and the vegetation is so lush and thick and the canoes glide through many nice cool shady stetches canopied by the truly giant trees and bamboo. I was very pleased that the ride lasted much longer than I thought it would. We did see some wildlife. Our canoes then landed at a jungle lodge where we finished that part of the tour and had a very good lunch (included in the price) before elephant trekking.

    All the elephants seemed to be very well-cared for and to respect and have affection for their handlers - the animals were very sweet and I was amazed by their gentleness and intelligence. The entire trek may have lasted about 1.5 hours (not taxing on the elephants) - it was simply gorgeous going through the jungle.

    I think the tour cost about 60 US dollars per person and it was definitely worth the cost for the experience. There weren't any mosquitoes (this was in very late December). You will want to wear a pair of trainers or sports sandals (these would be better if you want to swim in the river as there are rocks on the bottom). Don't wear flip-flops as you have to go down an inclined path to get to the river. Not a terrible one though. You don't have to be very fit for this tour since it pretty much just requires sitting.

  • Directions: North of Phuket. It took 1.5-2 hours to get there, but I would have been happy to go much further, it was that beautiful!

    Orchids are wonderful and delicate - and where I come from, mostly too pricey to buy...

    If you are flying with Thai Air you get at least one flower as a present.... so this must be the typical Thai flower...

    Phuket has a big Orchid farm with lots of different species. They make quite a view. And through them there are butterflies torkeling from flower to flower.

    You can also buy them here or let them ship home. The last chance to do that is at the airport BTW. I think they also have a shop there.

    There are different places in Thailand (also on Phuket), where you can visit these Snake shows,

    Mostly they are showing you how agile they are - in front of a Cobra (see pic) or another of the poisonous snakes that they have here.

    Next to the show you can also have a look at several of the snakes in the area (and some from around the world) that are exhibited in different cages.

    Seeing the many (and poisonous) species here, you will understand, why there are places where not even the Thai will walk into the scrub.

    We got to this show thanks to our driver whom we hired (together with car and airconditioning) to show us around the island one day.

    There are a lot of excursions and trips you can book in Phuket.

    Some stay on the island, others don't.

    We decided for a trip north.
    A one day safari consisting of:
    Lone beaches,
    short hike through jungle,
    boating up a river,
    visit of a shrimp farm,
    showering under a waterfall,
    elefant trekking.

    It was an awfull lot of driving, though- and in a jeep. But some views were just worth it.
    On the picture you see the waterfall.

    The Crocodile Farm is also on Phuket island and close to Phuket Town.
    Our driver (that we hired with car for one day) brought us here.

    Crocodiles are grown here for their skin and for their meat (which I think is nothing special, really).

    They are hold in bigger groups of about the same size together - so they won't eat each other, I think.
    Also: they smell quite bad, I have to say.

    You must go to the Phuket Zoo, the baby tigers and full grown ones are the best, you can have your photo taken with them for 150 bartt. Sit and hold a baby tiger is a very exciting thing to do and after the little one if your game you can sit with Dad and pat him while having your photo taken.
    Also while your there at the Zoo check out the Monkey show, there so funny, there's croc's and ellephants birds all types of fish and animals everywhere. Very nice day

  • If you are still in Phuket over a Friday night you get to watch live thai boxing at the Thai Boxing stadium.
    Taste the superb thai food and watch the performances of dances and culture of the Southern area at the Phuket Orchid Garden and Thai Village, a majot tourist attractions.
    To round up check Khao Rang (Phuket View Point), a low hill near the town center, is an excellent place to view the beautiful scene of the town, expecially on a full -moon night.

    Amazingly well-trained elephants that surely entertain visitors who take time to visit the zoo. The large creatures perform a number of shows that will undoubtedly impress onlookers. Tourists can watch also watch performance and shows at the zoo. Aside from the elephants, there are crocodiles, monkey, ostriches, tigers, snakes and many other kinds of animals that can be seen. An underwater world is also open for viewing. A photo session with an orang hutan or tiger is also possible.


    The zoo is open daily from 8.30am - 6pm.



    Monkey Shows: 9am, 12pm, 2.30pm,4.45pm
    Crocodile Shows: 9.45am, 12.45pm, 3.15pm, 5.30pm
    Elephant shows: 10.30am, 1.30pm, 4.00pm
    (Note: show timing may varies according to tourist season)

    Orchid Garden, Buttefly Garden, Aquarium opening time: 9.00am - 5.30pm

    Going for massage and spa is a must when u go to Phuket.

    I had a total of 3 spa/massage in my 6 day's visit and they were all good. The best I ever had was of cuz the one in Evason.. you may refer to my accomodation page for details of the Six Senses Spa.
