We had a one day tour, were picked up from the hotel and taken to the boat in Phuket, and off to Phi Phi island. There were awesome views of the beautiful rock formations and we snorkeled for an hour before lunch. It was an awesome experience,

  • Phi Phi Island Tour to avoid V-Marine Company

    by brandn14 Written Aug 22, 2013

Stay away from V-marine. We were suppose to swim at Phi Phi Leh, but ours was the only boat out of 20 or so boats there that didn't swim. We only took pictures. V-marine guide said it's too dangerous (then why is everyone else swimming?). He said the water will be too low to go to the restaurant so we must be the 1st to the restaurant before all the other boats. The water never went down. The water doesn't go down until after 4 p.m and the tour doesn't end until 4 p.m so it's a complete lie. I think he is lazy and is neglecting his job to get us IN and OUT as fast as he can. We were basically scammed out of an excursion. He was also rude and didn't allow us to take pics outside or stand outside the boat for very long. The only thing he would say is sorry. sorry. and sorry. I do not recommend V-marine tours. Do another company because their staff is probably better. The guy was named Mac (super dark Thai guy) and his driver was nicknamed banana - watch out.

PHUKET TOURS DIRECT scam for PHI PHI Island Hop

by rshoffet Written Feb 19, 2013

PHI PHI ISLANDS, KHAI NUI ISLAND, KHAI NAI ISLAND, BAMBOO ISLAND & YAO YAI ISLAND- There was no drinks or snacks at the port for breakfast, as stated in the itinerary. If you need last minute suntan lotion, make sure to bring your own or else you will end up paying $20USD for it there. There was no "prepared bread" for fish feeding, as promised. Most of the islands we were supposed to stop at were already overcrowded by the time we got there so we had to come back to them... which didn't help at all. The itinerary states you can snorel in a few spots and even canoe but there were no canoes in sight. We only snorkeled once, as we were told it was too rocky at the other islands. There was nothing special about the "special buffet lunch." The tour guide said there was a snack bar for us at one of the islands we stopped at, which we thought might make up for the crappy lunch we had, but the snack bar as not for our tour company. They wouldn't even let us purchase anything from them. What a tease. The island that has the monkeys to take pictures of... is done from the boat only. Everyone else was on the island getting up close to them and we did not have that luxury. 6 people from our group of 30 left on an earlier boat because they had enough... had we known that was an option, we would have dipped out too. We waited patiently and were late being dropped off at our hotel again. They told us we would be the first ones dropped off but we weren't. A cab would have been way more convenient.

Phi Phi Le Island: Maya Bay Swimming

This will by My Maya Bay Swimming Pictures as we did swim at maya bay using our water proof olympus toughtand panasonic lumix cameras for pictures and videos but did not snorkel since only those at long tail boats and big express boats can stop at the snorkeling areas or Maya bay. When Swimming at Maya Bay, be careful of the strong undercurrent below the surface and it really gets deep really fast as the clear emerald waters can be deceiving. do not go outside the marked areas if you are not a good swimmer.

Maya Bay was a popular destination then even before the shooting of Leonardo Di Caprio's 2000 film, the Beach. Maya Bay has one of the three areas for Snorkeling in Phi Phi Le Island and the other ones are in Lo Samah Bay and at the Southern End near Bida Yai Island. Maya Bay is made beautiful by the surrounding Karst Limestone Cliffs around it. Maya Bay has a wide 200 meter sugary fine white sand beach front in the middle part of the bay and some isolated pockets of white sand beaches at the left side of the Limestone cliffs. There is a single store in the beach selling drinks and there is bathroom facilities too and a park ranger hut. Since It is The Main Attraction of the Phi Phi islands National Park and that all Phi Phi Island Tours come through here, the tour guides pay for the park entrance fees for the tourists at 400 baht per person as admission fee.

It can be really crowded here even in the lean season of may to october as more than 30 speed boats (both private hired and big group tours) and long tail boats converge into maya bay everyday. You are alloted 1 hour to do your thing like sun bathing or swimming or snorkeling at Maya Bay if you are in a big speed boat tour and the express boats only stay at the entrance to maya bay as they don't have docking facilities in the beach for these large boats. You must try to pick a spot with less people but this will be next to impossible unless you are in maya bay in the late afternoon (most tours go to maya by in the morning).

There are no lodging and commercial and hotel facilities in the Island as it is banned due to the Swiftlet Colony at Viking Cave. Maya Bay is 48 kilometers away from Chalong Pier in Phuket and can b reached by speed boat in 50 minutes or express boat by 1 1/2 hours or by long tail boat by 2 1/2 hours.

Phi Phi Le Island: Monkey Cove

This will be My Phi Phi Le Island Monkey Cove Tips with pictures

Phi Phi Islands have two monkey areas, the monkey beach in Phi Phi Don which is for swimming and snorkeling during the peak season of November to April via Big Group Speed Boat Tour and the Monkey Cove with small hidden beach at Phi Phi le Island (during the lean season of may to october) which is for photo ops and monkey feeding with bananas and bread provided by your firendly speed boat tour guide for free. you can throw the food at the pig tailed macaque monkeys hanging at the many vines at the limestone cliffs or at the 4 meter mini beach beside it and the monkeys will catch it or dive at the sea to get it and then climb to the nearest vines in the water to go up the cliff again. you can take pictures and videos while they are at it. Monkey Cove is located in the Center part of eastern Phi phi Le, between viking cave and Loh Samah Bay.

The Phi Phi Island Group has 6 islands (Phi Phi don, Phi Phi le, Yong Island, Phai Island, Bida Nok Island, Bida Nai Island) but only 2 islands are popular for day tours from phuket and these are the largest island, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le (where Maya Bay and where leonardo di caprio's the beach was filmed in 2002). The Phi Phi Island Group is part of Krabi Province and sits at the Krabi Sea, 48 kilometers from chalong pier in Phuket and a 50 minute ride via speed boat and 1 1/2 hour ride via express boat.

This will be my Phi Phi Island Loh Samah Bay Tips and Pictures

There are three coral formations which are ideal for snorkeling around Phi Phi Le Island, the first is at the entrance of Maya bay (accessible via big boat tour) which is 40 meters away from the beach, the second is at the Southern Part Of Phi Phi Le near Bida Noi Island with a 20 meter white sand beach beside it (accessible by private speed boat tour and long tail boats) and Loh Samah Bay at the North Western Part of Phi Phi le island which is accessible by group speed boat tour and hence this is the one we did the snorkeling for obvious reasons. you must have a life jacket when snorkeling here at lo samah bay as the waves and undercurrents are strong but the coral formations and the assorted fishes are plentiful. the coral reefs is just 2 meters down from the waterline.

This Will Be My Tips and Pictures in Pileh Viking Cave in Phi Phi Le

The Viking cave is located in the North east part of Phi Phi Le Island and is actually a huge cave with nesting sites of the swiftlet birds. the swiftlet bird's nest is a prized posession and worth it's weight in gold as it is one of the four prized delicacies of chinese cooking hence the bird's nests of the swiftlets (which are made from dirt and saliva of the birds) are harvested and processed and sold to chinese restaurants for astronomical prices lthat goes up to 2,000 US Dollars a Kilo! this is the reason why Phi Phi le island is uninhabited as to guard against poaching these valuable birds nest at the Viking Cave. It is called viking cave due to ancient paintings in the caves with boats that resembled viking ships. Phi Phi Island Boat Tours just makes a photo stop here and no tourist is allowed to enter the cave.

The Pileh Cove is in the South Eastern Part of Phi Phi Le Island and is part of the Phi Phi Island National Park and just before the small bida nok and bida nai islands. Pileh Cove is an isolated cove with emerald green clear waters and coral reefs below and some Phi Phi Island speed boat tours allow a few minutes of snorkelling here. the cove itself is just about 300 meters in length and the water here is shallow and clear and is surrounded by the Karst Limestone Hills that Krabi Islands are famous for. It is similar to El Nido in Palawan Philippines but the Karst Lime Stone Cliffs there are longer and the cove bigger.

Phi Phi Don Island is the only inhabited Island in the Phi Phi Island Chain and where there are commercial activities. there are restaurants, scuba shops, 7-11 convenience stores, fruit juice shops, beach bars, souvenir shops, garment shops, hotels at Phi Phi Don Island and most of these are concentrated on the Isthmus between the two large limestone cliffs of Phi Phi Don at Tonsai Bay. Tonsai Bay has a pier for docking the big express boats and the long tail boats and speed boats just dock at the beach. the other side of Tonsai Bay is Hat Yao beach, where the water is calmer and is not deep and with lots of corals.

Most Phi Phi Islands Day Tours have buffet lunches at Phi Phi don and you have 1 hour extra time to shop or hang around or walk to Hat Yao Beach to enjoy a brief swim or snorkel.

You should take speed boat.....as there are few number of people....you will find many travel agents with small shops on road side. its safe to travel with your kid and spouse.

Recommend only speed boat as you can go to beaches like Maya Bay.
and you can snorkel with quite few people.

    Phi Phi Island

My agent and friend, Rebelo, when we were preparing the trip, showed me a package with 2 days in Phi Phi islands, saying it was tourist trap, the islands were easily visited in one day, and we could enjoy those nights somewhere else.

We accepted the suggestion, and saw he was right. But the contrast between the violent surf in our coast (monsoon time), and the clear and calm waters of Phi Phi islands, made us doubt that maybe that package was not such a bad idea.

The night in the island may be a little boring, but the day with the fish, it’s really a great experience.

We took a day trip to Phi Phi islands and Maya beach and loved it. We got to snorkel and stroll around the beaches. the speed boat was a bit crowded(all the ones we saw were), but nevertheless we had a very nice trip.
The is plenty to look around and buy in Phi Phi. Prices maybe high but some of the things that I saw here, I didn't find in many other places, so maybe that is why the prices are a bit high. But what you find everywhere, do not buy from here.
