Its a very enjoyable and scenic drive south from Patong to Promthep Cape Lookout, which is the southern most tip of Phuket Island. Franks friend Peter, who has actually lived in Phuket for about 5 years, took us on a mini roadtrip around the island. We drove to Karon Viewpoint, Promthep Cape Lookout, Rawai Beach, Chalong Pier, Big Buddha and then to Central Festival in Phuket Town. He also showed us his offices in Phuket Town, Peter runs two businesses, PhuketIT and the new online booking site called www.phuketbooknow.com

This lighthouse is located on Phrom Thep Cape - a headland forming the extreme south end of Phuket. It was built in 1996 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of King Rama IX's accession to the throne. You can visit inside which shows a few exhibits such as some of the bulbs used.

Phrom Thep Cape is a headland forming the extreme south end of Phuket. "Phrom" is Thai for the Hindu term, "Brahma," signifying purity, and "Thep" means 'God.' Local villagers used to refer to the cape as "Laem Chao", or the God's Cape, and it was an easily recognisable landmark for the early seafarers travelling up the Malay Peninsula from the sub-continent. Here you'll find a Brahma shrine and a lighthouse.

Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse is a mini-lighthouse museum. You can have a 360 degree view of the Promthep Cape and its surrounding from here. But we still prefers the sunset at the landing area.

You must remove your footware at the entrance. Please remain silence so that you will not disturb the rest.

From here you will also see the monument of Prince of Jumborn who was in the Navy in 1880. He was the 28th son of Rama V. When he turned 13 years old, the prince was sent to England to study to become a naval cadet in Royal Naval Academy of England. He returned 6 years later and built the first military base in Phuket.

You will also find a shrine with hundreds or thousands of wooden elephants in various sizes. The locals gathered here to pay their respect and worshiped these wooden carved elephants.

You may like to view the sunset from Patong Beach, Kata View Point and the best place is at Promthep Cape which have an unblocked view of the sea.

We drove our rented car up to Promthep cape. Do get there slightly before the sunset and the best view is just before the sun is setting. The view from Promthep Cape is breathaking. It is cooling just before the sunset, so you may like to sit by the restaurant and have a drink or dinner.

There were 3 person who circled in the air on their motorized parachute. I think that would be a great way to see the sun set. But it added some noise poluation to the peaceful sunset view.

Fabulous sceneries, wich you can also see from a nice restaurant. You can also do shopping at promteph cape. There is also a lighthouse you are able can visit. It will bring you good luck if you leave an elephant there..

South end of Phuket.....just up the hill from Nai Harn beach there is a lighthouse used years ago by the thai navy...who knew they had a Navy.
Anyway, a great view....cool elephant shrine. You can go up the lighthouse for free and they sell some cheap souvenirs. Small little village with food, drink and clothing for sale....there is also a restaurant overlooking everything. I believe the area is called Promthep Cape.......a cool part of a day trip.....lots to look at!

Phrom Thep Cape is between Rawai and Nai Harn beaches. The cape has great views of the small island of Koh Kaew Yai and the Andaman Sea, and is a very popular place to watch the sunset.
The cape is named after Brahma, the Hindu god of creation At the top is a shrine dedicated to this God. For an even better view, climb up the stairs to the platform in the Golden Jubilee Lighthouse. The lighthouse also contains a small nautical museum.

Kata View Point
A pavillion by the side of the road between Kata and Nai Harn marks the spot for this viewpoint. On a clear day, the view of the bays of Kata Noi, Kata Yai, Karon and Pu Island are fantastic.

Rang Hill
The views from this hill have lovely views across Phuket city. There is a fitness park at the top as well as a statue of Phuket's most famous governor, Ratsada Korsimbi Na Ranong. The best reason to visit Rang Hill is to have a meal at one of the hill-top restaurants. The view at night, is amazing.

I was told that I could watch the most beautiful sunset in Asia from the top of the hill at Promthep Cape. Unfortunately, I didn't stick around until sunset but even during the day, it has a magnificient view of the southern tip of Phuket. There is a lighthouse at the top of the hill and a place where people pray. Oh yes, some vendors sell fantastic roasted coconut drinks there and they're great especially on a hot & humid day

We hired a open 4x4 jeep one day and just went for a drive, you never know what you may find around the island, we drove towards to the Gape and found this guy with some egal and he let them set on our shouldrs for a small fee of course, it was a bit of fun and he told us about the egales that live on the island.
