    It was a cloudy day when I went to Phromp Thep Cape, and the cloud got thicker nearer to the time of sunset. As u can see from the picture, the sun was actually fully covered by the clouds! But the viewers, including me, was very patient, and when it popped out again under the cloud, there was actually some cheers, and I was one of them letting them out. But the sun didn’t keep out for long, the later part of the sunsetting happened under the cloud, maybe the sun was a little bit shy that day… and then we started to hear thunder and saw lightening… There is a lighthouse at the top of the Cape with a visitors center. U should be able to get a 360 degree view over the southern half of the island, and may even be able to see Phang Nga province, of cuz, on a clear day.

    Phrompthep Cape is situated adjacent to Nai Han Beach and Rawai Beach, at the southernmost point of Phuket. It is the perfect place to view spectacular sunsets, and it can be really really crowded nearing the sunset time. We arrived there at 530 and it was already packed with people (the sunset time is 630). Tens of coaches jammed the carpark, I guess that’s why u need to arrive 1 hr early, maybe if u don’t, u can’t get there on time to see the sunset. Strayed dogs were everywhere! When I was holding my BBQ chicken wing eating ( which was really delicious), 3 dogs approached me waiting for me to throw them something to eat.. that really frightened me a little bit, cuz they looked REALLY hungry. But then I didn’t give them anything, I felt like the little chicken wing wouldn’t be enough for 3 big dogs and I don’t want to see some dog fights… so I ate that myself… hehee

    South end of Phuket.....just up the hill from Nai Harn beach there is a lighthouse used years ago by the thai navy...who knew they had a Navy. Anyway, a great view....cool elephant shrine. You can go up the lighthouse for free and they sell some cheap souvenirs. Small little village with food, drink and clothing for sale....there is also a restaurant overlooking everything. I believe the area is called Promthep Cape.......a cool part of a day trip.....lots to look at! Have fun.

  • Directions: Nai Harn....head south till you cant head south anymore....make sure you go up a big hill - hence - the great view.

    Laem Promthep is the southernmost point of Phuket Island, and it's famous for its sunsets. A very nice place to visit and take photos in the daytime, too - and without doubt much more peaceful than by sunset! There's also a shrine to Phra Prom (Brahma) next to the viewpoint.

    Phromthep Cape is the southern-most point of Phuket Island. This is a great and quite popular place to see the spectacular view of the Andaman Sea and the sunsets.

    I believe this is one of the best place to catch sunset in Phuket. It is located at the extreme southern tip of Phuket and is called Promthep Cape. This place is extremely popular with the tourist as its facing the Indian Ocean

    This the place, not far from Kata beach where hundreds of people come to see the sunset, it's a bit crowded but it's worth a visit.
