Renting cars and taxis: Cars & Jeeps
  • Tip Rating:
  • One of the best ways to see the wonder of Phuket is to rent a car or 4x4 jeep. Be certain before signing an agreement that insurance is included in the deal. A noraml agreement should read " in any case of accident, the hirer will only paid the 3000-10000 (depending on the contract agreement set by the renter, normally is between 3000-10000) and the rest is borne by the insurance company". Renting your own vehicle is also a convenient way to avoid the hassles of public transport. Avis and Budget car rental companies can be located in the major centres. Smaller and less expensive dealers can be found around the beaches (mostly located at Patong beach). Weekly rentals often come with an estimated 10 percant discount, while renting a vehicle in the off-season is genrally 25-30 percent less expensive. Off peak season ( for jeeps): 600 - 900 baht Peak season (for jeeps): 800-1300 baht Off-peak season (for cars): 800 -3000 baht Peak season (for cars): 1200-4000 baht (Prices for cars depending on model. Normally cheapest is local made Toyota Soluna) The road system on Phuket is well maintained and few hazards are found on the route. Be careful, however, on the smaller roads, particularly after sundown. If there are altars or ghost houses set on the side of the road, drive slowly. Because these altars or ghost houses tell us the past history that this area had ever occurred many accidents. Here are some other established car rental companies on the island. 1). Pure Care Rent 2). Silver Car Rental Co. Ltd 3). Via-Rent-A-Car To view a list of car rental companies ---> click here.

    Boats: The Longtail
  • Tip Rating:
  • Maneuvering through the turquoise waters surrounding Phuket is a wonderful experience. Island taxi boats known as Longtails or Reua Hang Yao are built to last 50 years and cut through the sea with ease. Indispensable to fisherman, the Longtail requires a skilled hand and well-defined body behind the helm to navigate the wooden vessel. Many of these seaworthy crafts can be hired to visit nearby islands for a negotiated price, normally to be between 500-2000 baht for return trip.

    Motorbikes: Motorbikes for Hire
  • Tip Rating:
  • One of the cheapest way to go around Phuket is by renting a Motorbike . There are lots of free lance motorbike owners who are into this kind if business in Phuket. They have per hour or on per day basis. Just make sure to bargain and check the prices before renting.

    Tuk Tuk
  • Tip Rating:
  • Tuk Tuk is the common name of the famous public transportation in Thailand, but here in Phuket a tuk tuk is way too different from the tuk tuk that they have in Bangkok. Its more of a jeep type which can accomodate upto 6 persons. Most of the drivers here have a fix rate of 100THB no matter whats the distance.

Renting cars and taxis: Private Driver
  • Tip Rating:
  • Whenever we are in Phuket we use the services of a driver who has a clean, air-conditioned car which can seat up to 8 passengers (at a squeeze - 4 is best). He is prompt, reliable and speaks English well. He helps us with everything you can think of, from great meals at the most incredibly cheap prices to picking up things for us, picks up and drops off our laundry which he gets done at bargain prices, shopping on our behalf to give us new tastes and experiences at the markets or festivals. He also gets us 'Thai prices' when we're out shopping. He is friendly, fun and incredibly helpful. Having him makes Phuket like a second home for us because we have easy access to anything at any time with local knowledge. Mai is available for airport transfers at a quoted price, but usually 600 baht, then usually 1,500 baht per day, as fuel costs have risen and he now drives a large commuter van. Longer distances may incur a little extra, but Mai will give you a price up front. Mai's wife, Nuch (pronounced Nooch) has an email address which she checks every few days. It is listed below. I will include her telephone number as well, as she takes the bookings. If you call Thailand, be prepared to hear a beeping sound, the phone does not make a ringing sound that you are probably familiar with. It does not mean the phone is disconnected or engaged, just hang on. Mai now has two vehicles, as he has purchased a minibus which can seat 11-12 passengers so he can accommodate group bookings or smaller ones. Please note the change of email address, the other account no longer works.

    Tuc Tuc: Tuk-Tuk
  • Tip Rating:
  • What would a visit to Phuket be without experiencing Thailand's most recognised form of trvael? Tuk-tuks are abundant on the island and the three wheeled vehickes offer more safety and comfort than its two-wheeled counterpart. A set fare of about 20-40 baht is standard in Phuket Town. In other areas, the price is negotiable. Ranging 100-500 baht, depending on place and your negotiation skills. Enjoy the ride!!! Tuc Tuc: From Kata Beach to Phuket International airport
  • Tip Rating:
  • Apparently, there is only a few ways to get to/from airport ~ taxi (or private car), tuk tuk or buses. My trip to the airport from Kata Beach in a private taxi cost me 500 Bhat. Initial price was 600 Bhat. Maybe it was too expensive but since I was pressed for time, I did not protest much. The funny thing is that it would cost the same if I had taken a tuk tuk. Anyway, it was a comfortable ride and journey time was a little more than 30 minutes.

Renting cars and taxis: Nuch & Mai Travel Service
  • Tip Rating:
  • Thanks for fellow VTers' recommendation, I tried out Nuch & Mai Travel Service - no regrets. Nuch & Mai operate a transport business in which Mai chauffeurs visitors to Phuket around while Nuch, his wife, helps to take orders and coordinates the schedule. During our stay, Mai took us out and showed us around. His service is impeccable and he is always puntual. His vehicle, a van, is always well-maintained and clean. We engaged his service for two days and have enjoyed ourselves tremendously. This beats to hiring tuk-tuk which may overcharge you and you also have a peace of mind for safety. I would highly recommend visitors to use Nuch & Mai Travel Service. Do note that Nuch checks the email once in a few days.

You could take a bus from Patong Beach to Phuket Town for THB20. Frequency is about 30 mins but we do see at least two buses at the depot everytime. The departure point is just opposite Café Del Mar at the southern end of Patong Beach. The bus will travel through town via Bangla Road and stopping along the way to pick up passengers before finally heading off across the hills to Phuket Town.

    Motorbikes: Motorcycle Taxis
  • Tip Rating:
  • Motorcycle taxis can be found throughtout Phuket main arteries. Drivers wearing coloured vests (normally yellow or orange) with numbers on their backs generally negotiate the price. it is always best to agree on a sum before hopping on the back. This way of getting around is quick and easy. Hang on, these guys like to go fast but they are good at beating traffic jams. Price normally at 50-300 baht depending on location.
