 | Phuket Transportation | Tips 31 - 40 of 211 | | Watch out for elephants crossing the street. It could be very dangerous if you hit one. I don't know how common it is for this to happen. But it's a serious enough treat for them to have a road sign. Gosh! I wish I'd stolen that sign . . . Theme: Other

 | | | | Motorbikes: Rent a Motorbike | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Motorbike, aka scooter, rentals are all over Phuket and Patong. They rent for anywhere from 250 BHT to 200 BHT per day depending on how long you rent it and whether it is an automatic or manual shift. (Some of the local hotels will throw in a motorbike rental with the room!) Upon rental, they will keep your passport as collateral or 3000 BHT, your choice. I highly recommend renting one IF and only IF you are comfortable and experienced riding. There are no highways on Phuket and most driving is around town and to the beach. Since the Tsunami there are no where near the numbers of tourists as before, but be cautious motorbike accidents are one of the most common causes of injuries for tourists. Driving is on the left in Thailand (like in the UK & Australia), Helmets are required (for the driver) and I highly recommend always wearing long pants while driving (change at the beach). Laws in Thailand are strictly enforced and at least once a day, I came across a road block where they were ticketing for no helmet and no drivers license in possession.... You will have to leave the motor bike with the officers, catch a ride to the station, pay the ticket and go get a ride back....... to show the officer proof of payment and get your motorbike back. needless to say driving while intoxicated is not a good idea either, it is illegal in Thailand too! and I have heard the jails there are not very ummmmm, fun. Anyway it's a blast of a good time. Leave a Comment Theme: Motorcycle

 | | | | Tuc Tuc: Tuk Tuk / Taxi | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Tuk Tuk are the most common public transport in Phuket. They are everywhere, very easy to get. It would be better for short journey, cuz it would be quite bumpy and uncomfortable for a long travel, and some of them don't have back door... *Remember to negotiate the price before u get on the tuk tuk. Another way to get around is to get a taxi. If you want to go around the island for the whole day, u can book a taxi, it only costed me 1200 bahts for a whole day taxi and the drivers will take you to where you would like to go. They would even give some shopping and dining recommandations, some of the recommandations were nice, but some are just normal tourists shopping spots, it's all up to you if you want to go, they wont force it~ again, price is negotiatable. All of the tuk tuk and taxi drivers i met were all very nice and friendly, so don't worry. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
