Elephants are a revered creature in Thailand and is the national animal and you can have elephant trekking tours all around thailand and here is phuket is no different and they have many elephant trekking places in and around phuket island but a caveat: riding an elephant here in Phuket is more expensive than in bangkok! a 30 minute elephant ride here costs 900 baht and 1 hour elephant ride at 1,200 baht, while in Bangkok area, it is only 600 baht for a 30 minute elephant ride. the 30 minute ride is slow and bumpy and the elephant sometimes takes a dump heheh while in the trek and he crosses small ponds and hillocks and a local thai village with carabaos, cockfighting arena and more.
Watch out for elephants crossing the street. It could be very dangerous if you hit one. I don't know how common it is for this to happen. But it's a serious enough treat for them to have a road sign.
Gosh! I wish I'd stolen that sign . . .
Although I wasn't to keen I was persuaded to take part in an Elephant trek, they seemed to be well looked after,so that swayed it for me,onlt £10 for an hour.
