Whenever we are in Phuket we use the services of a driver who has a clean, air-conditioned car which can seat up to 8 passengers (at a squeeze - 4 is best). He is prompt, reliable and speaks English well. He helps us with everything you can think of, from great meals at the most incredibly cheap prices to picking up things for us, picks up and drops off our laundry which he gets done at bargain prices, shopping on our behalf to give us new tastes and experiences at the markets or festivals. He also gets us 'Thai prices' when we're out shopping. He is friendly, fun and incredibly helpful. Having him makes Phuket like a second home for us because we have easy access to anything at any time with local knowledge. Mai is available for airport transfers at a quoted price, but usually 600 baht, then usually 1,500 baht per day, as fuel costs have risen and he now drives a large commuter van. Longer distances may incur a little extra, but Mai will give you a price up front. Mai's wife, Nuch (pronounced Nooch) has an email address which she checks every few days. It is listed below. I will include her telephone number as well, as she takes the bookings. If you call Thailand, be prepared to hear a beeping sound, the phone does not make a ringing sound that you are probably familiar with. It does not mean the phone is disconnected or engaged, just hang on. Mai now has two vehicles, as he has purchased a minibus which can seat 11-12 passengers so he can accommodate group bookings or smaller ones. Please note the change of email address, the other account no longer works. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor HomePhone: +6641 134 809Other Contact: hknuch@hotmail.com

One of the best ways to see the wonder of Phuket is to rent a car or 4x4 jeep. Be certain before signing an agreement that insurance is included in the deal. A noraml agreement should read " in any case of accident, the hirer will only paid the 3000-10000 (depending on the contract agreement set by the renter, normally is between 3000-10000) and the rest is borne by the insurance company". Renting your own vehicle is also a convenient way to avoid the hassles of public transport. Avis and Budget car rental companies can be located in the major centres. Smaller and less expensive dealers can be found around the beaches (mostly located at Patong beach). Weekly rentals often come with an estimated 10 percant discount, while renting a vehicle in the off-season is genrally 25-30 percent less expensive. Off peak season ( for jeeps): 600 - 900 baht Peak season (for jeeps): 800-1300 baht Off-peak season (for cars): 800 -3000 baht Peak season (for cars): 1200-4000 baht (Prices for cars depending on model. Normally cheapest is local made Toyota Soluna) The road system on Phuket is well maintained and few hazards are found on the route. Be careful, however, on the smaller roads, particularly after sundown. If there are altars or ghost houses set on the side of the road, drive slowly. Because these altars or ghost houses tell us the past history that this area had ever occurred many accidents. Here are some other established car rental companies on the island. 1). Pure Care Rent 2). Silver Car Rental Co. Ltd 3). Via-Rent-A-Car To view a list of car rental companies ---> click here. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Thanks for fellow VTers' recommendation, I tried out Nuch & Mai Travel Service - no regrets. Nuch & Mai operate a transport business in which Mai chauffeurs visitors to Phuket around while Nuch, his wife, helps to take orders and coordinates the schedule. During our stay, Mai took us out and showed us around. His service is impeccable and he is always puntual. His vehicle, a van, is always well-maintained and clean. We engaged his service for two days and have enjoyed ourselves tremendously. This beats to hiring tuk-tuk which may overcharge you and you also have a peace of mind for safety. I would highly recommend visitors to use Nuch & Mai Travel Service. Do note that Nuch checks the email once in a few days. You may wish to consider renting a car to go about in Phuket. We rented a Toyota Yaris at KJ Shop for THB1000 for 24 hours. For a small Suzuki Jeep, the rental fee is about THB700 per day for a small Suzuki jeep. I think renting a car would be a good option especially if you have 4 or 5 person. Do make sure that insurance is included in the car rental fees. Do read the fine prints before you sign on the dotted line. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor HomePhone: 076 292146

We rented a Toyota Quantum which seats 11 people. Full aircon with a DVD player for the children. We needed to take the family (of 10) on a tour of Phuket. Master Car Rental situated at the Hilton Hotel Karon Beach were able to help us. You will need a copy of your Passport, Drivers licence and a credit card guarantee. The deposit was B20 000 ( about 500 US$). The total cost for the day was about 60 US$ When calling from within Thailand; 076 396 038 Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Mr Mae-on the left by bkarjee We could see almost all of Phuket within 3-4 days time, thanks to Mr. Mae and his Wife Ms Nuch, who made this possible. Mr. Mae has been staying in Phuket for quite a long time and provides transport services to tourists. They are very helpful people and understand English language quite well. I extracted his information from travel pages of one of the travelers in Virtual Tourist and contacted him thro his e mail which is kunthipc@thaimail.com. His wife Nuch manages the e-mails and its better to give 3-4 days time to reply. They have a big spacious car and are more then happy to take tourists to all the touristy places. He carries a mobile (# 016520017). At the end of the day, when we wanted to pay him for taking us around Phuket, he wouldn’t tell us the amount. He said, we could pay whatever we feel like. I was taken aback and had no idea how much to pay. We paid him 1000 THB because he had been with us for the whole day. Later on, on checking with fellow tourists, I roughly got the idea. If you hire a car for half a day, (say from 0900 hrs to 1400 hrs), normal rate is THB 500. If it is for full day (say from 0900 hrs to 1900 hrs), the rate is THB 1000. If you engage the car for the whole day and late evening, (say from 0900 hrs. to 2300 hrs), better pay 1400-1500 THB. Actually the good service which he rendered to us is unquantifiable. So it is justified if we pay a little extra. Since it is Thai Bhats, it means a lot. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor HomePhone: +66 16520017Other Contact: kunthipc@thaimail.com

by Mahieu Phuket is a small island and if you want to explore the island on your own, there are plenty of places to hire cars or motorbikes. It is really cheap! We hired a car for 2 days and paid about 28?! In Thailand, people drive on the left. It's not too difficult to drive in Phuket, just pay attention to the motorbikes that aren't always an example of excellent driving skill! Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

This is a rough guide on the Taxi fare (Tuk Tuk) from Patong Beach to various place. THB 300 - Kamala Beach, Karon Beach THB 400 - Phuket Town, Surin Beach, Kata Beach THB 600 - Airport If you think the price are expensive, you may consider renting a car for a day for THB1000 or if you know how to operate a motorbike, the rental rate will only cost you THB200 a day. To get to Promthep Cape for sunset, it is better that you have your own transport. Else you will be at the mercy of the tuk tuk drivers. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

We found taxis expensive, plus there's always the issue of drivers who don't speak much English or want to take you to places so they get commission. Another forum recommended a youngish local man, Mr Mor. He's a trained vet and speaks excellent English. Clean, new, fully insured Toyota Wish seats 6 passengers. He can be hired by the hour for short trips to night markets etc, or for the half day or full day. Half day from 600 b; full day from 1200 b (petrol is becoming really expensive so difficult to be exact). When we were there he took us all over the island to temples, shopping (he knew where to go for the best prices), beaches, attractions and excellent local restaurants that really gave us the insider track! Because his English is so good, you can ask him about things you see or ask for other suggestions. We gave him a list of places we wanted to go and he worked out the most sensible route. Highly recommended by many people: polite, professional, very reliable. Contact him at pongkands@gmail.com or by phone on 01-647 2643. Theme: Car/Motor HomeOther Contact: jo.lamiri@gmail.com
