Ride an Elephant in a River

by AlbuqRay

Thom's elephant ride is about a 10 minute drive outside the village of Pai. If you stay at Thapai Camping (see my Thailand Hotel/Accommodation Tip), it is at the end of the driveway on the paved highway. It costs 600 baht (~$15) for 1.5 hours. The route is mostly in the clear water of the Pai river. Just one warning...never trust an elephant that has been trained to squirt people, LOL. Actually the water feels great on a hot day. Don't wear or carry anything that cannot get wet. The guide/mahout will take care of your camera and get some good photos for you.

If You Thought I Were Kidding

by AlbuqRay

There are pluses and minuses to riding in the front right behind the elephant's ears. At least the neck is not as wide as the back, so your legs don't get as sore. However, you are the main target of any cold water "showers." LOL, as you can see, it was actually great fun. Again, don't wear or carry anything that cannot get wet.

THE NEED FOR SPEED

by travelagent4thailand

GO KARTING is big in THAILAND!There almost over a dozen of professional karting tracks across Thailand.Almost all of the tracks are outdoors and some places have night karting which makes it excellent to beat the hot day time weather.Famous kart manufacturers and international / domestic races are held annually....boasting all renown brands! So come on down, all you speed hungry people. All tracks rent karts of different sizes and ranges from 50 cc up to 120 cc and some places have more!Rentals are anywhere from 200 baht to 500+ baht for 10 minutes...the higher the power, the more it is...The tracks also have overalls for renters to use, complimentary. Helmets are also provided free of charge for every rental, though they are not world standard safety, it's useable.Karts are imported or made locally, and the local ones are as good...so check out your speed.

Tubing at Nakorn Sai Yok

by herzog63

Nakorn Sai Yok has plenty of family type activities to do such as picknicing, Tubes for rent etc... The water in the river isn't very deep in March. As it was the dry season. I'm sure the river would be unswimmable during the rainy season. This are was quite popular with Bangkok Teenagers hanging out for the day. It took us about 1 ½ hours by car from Ayuthaya to get here.

Islands

by M.E.R.V

Thailand has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With hundreds of islands to do your water activities at. The more well known ones are Koh Samui, Koh Samet, and of course Phuket and the Phi Phi Islands! Pattaya isnt an island, it is a beach and I think it's gone too touristy over the years it's slowly losing its charm. Visit the Phi Phi Islands if your in for some Leonardo Dicaprio waterfalls, yea, that's where they filmed the Beach.

snorkling

by medulienka

You can rent snorkling equipment and each of the boats which are waiting on the beach for tourists can take you to wonderfull places for snorkling. And what you see under the water is worth every effort. there are a lot of shops or rentals, where you can rent a snorkling equipment on the beaches of the islands and it is not very expensive

southern thailand: swimming

by call_me_rhia

All coastal southern thailand is beach country... especially on the islands. I chose Koh Samet for two reasons: first it's near bangkok and relatively low-key, and secondly because, during the wet season, it has a nearly-dry weather. If i can judge beaches from the only island i've been, this is a perfect country for swimming (lovely warm water9 and snorkeling a swimsuit is a must.. towel optional - in the sense that you can use the one of your bungalow. another must is a high-factor sunscreeen. i used protection 20 and got burned within 2 hours. I guess sunblock is not such a bad idea, after all

northern thailand: bamboo rafting

by call_me_rhia

Rafting on a bamboo "raft" is quite interesting, you get to see life from the river's point of view. However it's gentle rafting: it doesn't do much to your adrenaline level. To give you an idea of hoe gentle, just know that i managed to smoke a cigarette while rafting (ok, the guide was not pleased). A rafting trip costs about 250 baht per person: they recommend wearing a life-vest, but i think it's totally unnecessary - we all declined. I went on the Pai river near mae Hong Son nothing special - but wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet. Even better, wear no shoes!

ABOUT A JUNGLE SURVIVAL TOUR

by joiedevivre

ABOUT A THREE-DAY JUNGLE SURVIVAL TOUR IN LOPBURI PROVINCE (this chapter is for the thrill-seekers only !) You may not know that the trekkings you are offered have already been experienced by hundred of thousands of tourists before you... but that's true (just believe me) !Every inch of the Thai territory is well known. There is no place for a tourist-turned 'Robinson Crusoe' in this part of the world. I agree that this is a very bad news for the newcomers !...But now, listen to me, if instead you are proposed to be a tourist-turned 'Rambo' (yes, I said 'Rambo') in the only jungle left in Lopburi province, would you like to take the challenge ? Well, I know a few VT friends who will. Today, I have got the information that they are looking for and I want to share it with all of you. You may be interested too, so keep on reading !This is a new attraction in Thailand, Introduced by the...
