Kinnari

by traveldave

kinnari are a Thai mythical creature that is half woman and half swan, with the head and torso of a beautiful woman, and the body and legs of a swan. She also has both human arms and swan wings. The kinnari is known for her exceptional singing voice and graceful dancing. She is one of several mythical beings that inhabit the Himapan Forest, located on the India-Nepal border, one step beneath the Buddhist heaven, and invisible to mortals. Statues of kinnari are often placed within temple grounds throughout Thailand. The one pictured here watches over the Royal Pantheon in Bangkok.

DESTINATION FUN IN PHUKETT

by xymmot

Many things to do in Phukett and your days will fly by.....see if you can add a few days in paradise?Anyway if you like seafood, I go to one of two places I like which is the Savoey Seafood on beach road, or Number #1 Seafood behind Tiger entertainment complex near the second road (rat-u-thit 200 pee road) that parallels to the beach. There you will pick your catch and be entertained by the musicians or the flow of people. There is so many things to do in Phukett. One can play golf on there terrific golf courses of Red Mountain or Loch Palm....both great. You can rent a car or a scooter and climb the mountains to have a sea view of the coves and beaches at the vView Point and Promthep Cape. Go to Karon Beach and rub the soft white sands of the beach, so clean that they squeak when you walk on the beach,. There is a great place to have a drink, eat breakfast or lunch and dinner with a...

Thai Kick Boxing Bangkok

by RobSydney

Muay Thai or Thai Kick BoxingWant to watch a couple of teenagers or 20-somethings kick and bash each other?Near Lumphini subway station is Lumphini boxing stadium, about 1 Kilometer down RamaIV road on the Left hand side as you walk away from Lumpini park past the old Suan Lum Night Bazar 9 now closed). Every Tuesday, Friday (6.30 start) & Saturday (4pm and 8.15pm) nights they have kickboxing tournaments. You can buy ringside tickets for about $60 (Baht 2000). You need the ringside tickets as the back stands are packed to ‘standing room only’ with local gamblers betting on every round. You will see them make hand signals across the floor to bookmakers each break in the boxing. No money changes hands as all settlement is done after the night and the army who owns the stadium ensures every bet is honoured. Ringside seats also allow you to go “back stage” where the boxers warm up, and where...

Andaman or the gulf?

by bulldogtwo

In my opinon, the Andaman coast is by far the best beaches and water. And I agree with hasan that Khao Lak is a great place to start with great beaches, which is about an hour north of the crowded busy Phuket. Bathwater warm water and clean small pebble sand beaches, not quite powdery but close. I find that Krabi, Koh Lanta to the south have way too much run off making the beaches at low tide very wide and soooo far from the actual beach, same goes for the gulf area, particularly around Hua Hin. You can walk for 200-300 meters beofre you hit the water and then maybe another 100 meters to get to water that is deep enough to swim in during low tide, not a problem on the Andaman side. Have fun

Chiang Mai

by solopes

A visit to Thailand will not be complete if we don't add to Bangkok and the inevitable beach a trip to the north. Chiang Mai is the capital of the north, and the best located place to travel around. It is also, very interesting if you don't want to go elsewhere in the neighborhoods.

SweetDreamers sailing tours in Phuket

by Palutschky

I just returned from an unforgettable two weeks in Phuket, and I must say that our most memorable day during our vacation in Phuket was the sailing trip with Igor and Delphine. We have been on a day trip to Coral island with them. They take just a small group of people (max. 6) and choose places, where not many tourists are. So you can be sure to be alone or just with few people on the islands. Igor has a lot of humor and is very nice guy. On the way to Coral island we stoped at Lone island for a delicious Thai lunch on the beach under tree. On the beach we were only 4 of us. This beach was a small paradise, we did so many beautiful photos there. Then we set sail to coral island, we did a lot of snorkeling there and relaxed afterward on the beach. Igor gave us also some bread to feed the fishes and that was cool. Hundrets of fishes come to us and ate bread direct from our hands. On the...

Taling Chan Floating Market

The atmosphere at the Taling Chan floating market is very local and non-touristy less the hassle of touts and inflated prices. The vendors are very pleasant and polite and you can have an amazing Thai meal here . Visitors here are mostly Thai but it becoming more popular with Western tourists looking for something different.I really enjoyed the canal tour at Taling Chan Floating Market.

Hire a Great Local Tour Guide

by Girleen

My husband and I have travelled to Thailand a number of times for both business and pleasure. On our first visit to Chiang Mai six years ago, we had the pleasure of meeting Nui (happytournui@yahoo.com). When we came back in 2006 we didn't hesitate to call him. He knows the best tours, restaurants, hotels... He's also always willing to go outside the box. He even took us to his local Buddhist temple to meet his teacher. If it's your first time to Chiang Mai, I'd highly suggest you hire this guy. His website is: www.netimage.co.th/cnxtour

Khon Kaen – walking around

by vtveen

Khon Kaen was, after Bangkok, the first town in Thailand we visited. Although the 4th biggest city in the country it has just about 150.000 inhabitants and is absolutely not to compare with the capital. Walking around in town we didn’t see any other tourists and I think the city doesn’t get many of them. The city has not much to offer than just the average way of living of Thai people in an average Thai city. With of course a lot noise, vibrant street life, busses, tuk-tuks (no taxis !!), local markets with their own colours and smells, some shopping malls and even a sidewalk café for a cup of coffee.Khon Kaen is supposed to be the centre of the Isan silk industry, but in the city we didn’t find anything but a couple of gift shops, selling silk products and other local crafts. Some remarks about the things we noticed:- Tourist Information Centre of TAT: friendly, but couldn’t help us at...

Chiang Mai – Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

by vtveen

"If you have not tasted the Kao Soi or visited Doi Suthep, you have not been to Chiang Mai.".This is just a saying, but I think at least for the last part it is right. On the last day we had our car we went up the Doi Suthep Hill through a steep, winding and rather quiet road. But once at the parking lot we run into crowds of cars, buses and songthaews bringing loads of tourists to the main tourist sight of Chiang Mai.Although it was possible to go to the temple with a cable car, we climbed all the way the more than 300 steps to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Only foreigners have to pay an admittance fee and after a lot of cheating by Thai, we decided to be a little bit disobedient and entered the complex through the ‘Thai gate’. First we walked around the buildings and had a splendid view of the city far beneath us. The golden chedi with stunning lace umbrellas on each corner was a next...
