by SLLiew There are many overnight trains from Southern Thailand originating from Hatyai, Golok, Surathani or Pattani to Bangkok daily. There is also an international train orginating from Butterworth, Penang State in Malaysia to Bangkok which takes about almost a day. The seats are converted into double decker beds. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners can be ordered and served. There is also a dining coach to have your meals. Quite a pleasant journey except that you will be well shaken by the tracks by the time you reach Bangkok. Need early booking during peak seasons, weekends and holidays. Theme: Train

BTS near Sukhumvit Rd by danielinnz The skytrain in Bangkok (BTS) is simple to use, clean, air conditioned and efficient. Sure beats sitting in a taxi stuck in traffic for hours. Tourists can buy one or 3 day passes offering unlimited travel. Leave a Comment

Boat by kyoub The "Manohra" a 40-year-old authentic river rice barge that has been lovingly restored by the Marriott Royal Garden Riverside Hotel Bangkok, offers lunch, sunset and nightly dinner cruises on the "River of Kings". "The Manohra" can also be chartered for private river tours, as well hotel-catered breakfast, lunch, diner and cocktail cruises. It can accommodate up to 40 guests. We went out on the sunset cocktail cruise. It goes down the Chao Praya River and returns. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

taking an overnight train from Bangkok to Chian Mai is great fun andexperience.trains ain Thialand are cheap , clean and comparable to those in India, though Indian trains are a bit faster. On the trains when ordering meals order what the locals do -its far better than the touristy menu on board. Shop around for pricing. Do not contract yourself to the first price offered! Take time to walk (often only 2 doors down) and you'll see similar or even same itinerary at a cheaper price. Suggested you take (if time allows) first day to "get a feel" for pricing of what you may be interested in. Also, different companies offer same identical tours but according to their staff/boats/etc. may be charging alot more! Hotels are generally not a good place to book from, better from the street vendors we found. One last thing: When booking your tour, be insistent that you're wanting a tour WITHOUT shopping in it! If you don't inquire, they'll figure your shopping time into the actual itinerary wasting some of your valuable vacation time. We loved Phuket Master Team Travel Company. They were professional, great boats and wonderful service! 66-76-273405 Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/BoatPhone: 66-76-273405Other Contact: Phuketspeedboat@hotmail.com

Mai, Gai and Children by Homanded The Tuk Tuk family was by far the best way to see Thailand. Mai and Gai (pronounced GUY) were knowledgeable, charming and full of information both to the history as well as "off the track" restaurants and things to do. They kept us away from the shopping area and discouraged begging away from us. The most WONDERFUL part of them however was their children. They would ride along with us after school practising their english. Happy for candy and polite enough to Wai and thank us they were a fun way of exploring and getting to know about Thai culture. Please give them a chance, tell them the Americans, Homer and Eddie sent you. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherPhone: 01-4469103

Flying out and Around by balisunshine Bangkok is known as a hub for airlines which means great bargain prices. With great offers flying into Thailand from most corners around the world, this can be a useful place to start a ongoing trip around Southeast Asia. Start by looking into the the joint venture between Shin Corp. owned by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s family and the Malaysian no-frills air carrier Thai AirAsia, the sister airline of Air Asia. www.airasia.com They recently offered a 11 baht fare to Singapore from Bangkok, excluding the 50 baht fee, 50 baht insurance & S$21 taxes. Another airline promoting an unbelievable S$1 airfare to Singapore was the low cost Tiger Airways in Singapore departing from various gateways in Thailand. The competing offers reflect an escalating price war among Southeast Asia’s budget carriers. Just check out the various Travel Agents, newspapers, or travel web-site. You are sure to find a great deal. Leave a Comment

by SLLiew Be aware of which parts of Bangkok at which time will be jam. You could be stuck in traffic for an hour. So get out of the taxi or park your car, instead a combination of the Sky train, Metro, lincensed motorcycle and walking to get to your destination faster. Have the hotel staff to write your destination in Thai and get the telephone number of your destination. Most Thais are very helpful in helping lost tourists but may not understand your pronounciation of the places as Thai language has five different sound tones, So showng the place written in Thai helps. Night at sleeper 2nd class by kimmo_v Best way for travel between south and north is a train(well, thats my opinion, though). We tooked a night train from Suratthani to Bangkok. It was 1st class sleeper, air con, hot water, shower in car and extremely clean. It tooked about 12 hours(from 22.30 to 10.30), and costed appr. 1000 baht. From Bangkok we took another night train to Chiang Mai, in 2nd class sleeper. It tooked 15 hours, and was lot cheaper than first class. There were fans(no a/c), shower in the car and about 40 peoples in there. We liked it almost more than 1st class. You really felt like travelling! Tickets are easy to get at the stations, so dont use any tourist offices unless you want to pay more(and might get 3rd class ticket for a price of 2nd class...). Leave a Comment Theme: Train
