Sometimes just getting there is half the fun

by lindyz

For me, I was excited enough just because we hired a stretch limo to get us to and from Sydney airport. I had never been in one, so it was a fitting way to begin and end our trip. We even had champagne in the limo, but no-one was keen at 5am!!??We flew Thai Airways and I could not fault them in any way. The trip was fine, food good, service impeccable. Although, I did encounter a vomitting migraine about 2 hours into the plane trip over and pretty much spent the whole 9 hour trip in the toilet heaving into the bowl. If you could have gotten me off that plane, I think I would have - that was not a perfect way to start our holiday.

China Airlines from NYC

by Gypsystravels

My mom, sister and I decided to go on a packaged tour of Thailand (for mom and Linda's benefit) and China Airlines was the airline we flew in. The service was excellent as the flight attendants were very attentive and friendly. Our flight was a very long flight taking us from NYC to Alaska on the Taipei and then Chiang Mai where we disembarked with ease through customs to meet up with our tour guide.

Traveling by Bus

by Gypsystravels

We traveled on a tour bus from the North City of Chiang Mai south to Bangkok. We had super comfortable seats in a bus that was transporting about 30 individuals, all from the US. Our tour guide was very funny and made our trip from location to location fun and informative. The driver was very cautious with his driving and we felt at ease.

Travel Thailand by train.

by cachaseiro

Thailand has a good train network and the prices for trains are very competitive. It's no doubt the kinda transport i prefer in Thailand unless i am cycling or walking.Onlonger distances like the trains to Malaysia for instance, you have sleeper cars that are of a good quality and you have restaurant cars in many of the trains too.

Air or bus around Thailand

by bulldogtwo

By air, which is the fastest and the prices are usually just as much as bus fare, especially when you factor in the time it takes for a bus. You leave from Chiang Mai and have to fly into Bangkok again and catch a connecting flight, to my knowledge there are no direct flights. From Samui you have to go overland by bus to either Krabi or Phuket and from those point catch a ferry to Phi Phi. I am not sure about ferries to langkawi from Phi Phi, I have not heard of them and it would be a long boat ride and may be rather rough too. You will probably have to get back to Krabi and take a bus south and then catch a ferry to the island.Good luck

travel as the thais do !

by sezabell

if your wanting a bit of an adventure and just going for a short journey why not get one of the cheaper government buses.this was our 89 baht bus from kanchanaburi to bangkoktook about 3 hours and we still got a free drink of water on therewe did just about break down abit and only just made it to the bangkok bus station well within 100 meters of it before it broke down but thats all part of the fun isnt it !!!

government buses

by sezabell

after our first trip to thailand we decided we would brave it and use the government bus stations and to our surprise they are great.most buses are on time, cheaper than ones you book down koh sahn rd our travel agents, and you even get food and drinks on them included in the price.they can get quite hectic at the main stations or friday nights when people are going home but we have always found some one to point us in the right direction if we cant find the right ticket box.if you get a vip bus try to book the back seats as they go right back, but all the vip seats go back anyway without being a pain to the person behind you.

Transpo Bangkok to Chumphon

by bulldogtwo

This question comes up quite often, but you still have to go back to Bangkok to get to Chompon. Train or bus, the travel time will be about the same but you can get a sleeper on the train, I think the train gets in at about 5-6am into Chumphon. Bangkok to Chumphon there is not a lot to see, just before Chomphon there are a couple of national parks but other than that I don't believe that there is a lot of developed beach area other than Hua Hin area.http://www.thaiforestbooking.com/parks-eng.htmChomphon to Ranong on hiway 4 is very scenic as the road takes you over some nice scenic mountains. A little confused about your ferry comment from Chompon unless you are talking about taking the ferry to Samui from Chomphon?Have FUN!

Island confusion! Sorry!

by bulldogtwo

Sorry to confuse you if I did, got my islands mixed up when I was reading. Thai guy is right on. But as I said before, 5500 is way too much, maybe for 4-6 people but even then they should throw lunch in with the price!Sorry for the mix up

Thailand, Planes, Trains or Auto

by bulldogtwo

It is really a matter of time and budget. If you have the time as it looks as if you do, then why not just take one of the deluxe/1st class buses, not nearly as expensive and the time frame will not be that much more. 5500 baht sounds really steep. Of course I would opt to fly, about the same price and you save a whole day in travel. Once in Trat then you can catch a bus to the jump off point to Koh Chang. For the bus, make your way to the southern bus terminal and get a ticket, or ahead of time you can canvas via internet the hotels that have delux buses leaving for Samui. You can also take an overnight bus, sleep on the bus and save on hotel fare, last bus leaves at 2020 from the terminal and takes about 12 hours into Samui.Good luck
