Tranportation from Phuket to Lanta

by bulldogtwo

Assuming that you are going during this tourist season and not the rainy season you can get there without having to go to Phi Phi. It may however be just as fast to take a bus from Phuket to Lanta, depending on the type of watercraft that you are hiring. It'll be a lot cheaper for sure. That's a long distance from Phuket over water, especially in a fast boat, which is what I am assuming you are thinking about. It'll be a rough ride and by the time you get there you'll know it!Good luck and have FUN!

Overseas Flight to Thailand

by GracesTrips

When we checked in at LAX for our flight to Thailand, the airline clerk asked if we had a copy of our return ticket. We did not since we didn't do the online check-in in advance. He then said do we "each" have a copy of our flight itinerary showing our return flight from Thailand. We did (fortunately). He indicated that Customs in Thailand may not allow us to enter unless we can show proof that we had a return flight back out of the country. Anyway, they never asked us for this information but I think it's better to be safe than sorry. You should have a copy of your flight itinerary for each traveler going.

Taxis

by GracesTrips

Some tips to remember that I have read over and over again:Always ask to start the meter. Some cab drivers will totally refuse to take you if you want the meter switched on. Don't let them bully you into giving into to their demands. There will be a taxi that will come along who will use the meter to take you. Try to give the exact amount of the fare, some drivers will not make change.Additional non-important info: When a Thai purchases a brand new car, the first thing they do is drive to a temple. They find a monk to bless the car so that nothing bad will happen. The monk puts markings inside the roof of the vehicle near the rear view mirror.

Long Flight

by GracesTrips

Some things to consider on a long flight, take a sweater in case it gets cold and don't dress to warm in case it gets hot. I take my shoes off and put on booties (socks). Your feet will swell up. Periodic massaging of the feet might help keep the swelling down. Most planes provide a pillow and blanket. I would double up the blanket and use it for extra cushion on the seat. I always pack some extra snacks for the trip such as beef jerky, nuts and chocolate chip cookies in my carry on. Remember not to bring the open food packages back - especially the beef jerky. Customs has a real problem with that. Anyway, just some suggestions for the long flight. We flew on Cathay Pacific and I didn't care for the seats in the economy section of the plane. It was quite uncomfortable as the back of the seat didn't mold my back and the bottom of the seat was very hard. Then, when you wanted to recline...

Thailand - flying

by vtveen

Which airwayThailand has beside Thai Airways a couple of budget airlines like Air Asia, Nok Air and One-Two-Go (Orient Airway). Flying with the budget airlines is a very cheap and fast way to travel in Thailand and even Thai Airways is not that expensive (and has sometimes great deals and the ‘Discover Thailand Fares’).We had just one flight in Thailand, going from Chiang Mai to Bangkok before heading home and decided for Thai Airways. They had the best schedules for us and we paid just a couple of euros more. The flight was only 55 minutes, but the crew succeeded to serve a meal and drinks (for free !!).For more info:Thai AirwaysAir AsiaNok AirOne-Two-GoBangkok AirwaysDomestic/InternationalBe aware from March 2007 domestic flights are often leaving/arriving at Don Mueang Airport (DMK) and most of the international flights do at Suvarnahbumi Airport (BKK). Check thoroughly which airport...

Transportation Bangkok to Phuket

Or you could do both. Take the train to Suart Thani and the n the bus to Phuket, another 4-5 hour ride.Is there a reason why you choose not to fly? For about the same price and saving an enitire days travel you can fly on one of the budget airlines. www.airasia.comIt really is just as cheap, but maybe there are other reasons for not flying.Good luck

transportation from Hua Hin to Sattahip

by bulldogtwo

Hi Lotus, There is no ferry service from Hua Hin to Samet Isl. or that area. Same question was posted about a month ago. Fastest way is to hire a vehicle and driver but not the cheapest. Next best is probably the bus, about a four hour ride into Bangkok and then a couple three to Sattahip. You probably will not make any more time by taking the train. Bus or private car are your best options, they are not good ones but unless other Vt'rs know another way, it's the only way.Good luck and have fun!

Phuket transportation

by thefalang

Difficult to say. It seems (after 15 yrs in Phuket) that there are no standard prices regarding foreigners. It's whatever the locals can extract from you. Check the gov't bus station in Phuket town for more honest & standardized fares. Transportation in Phuket is the biggest rip-off in Thailand so beware. The taxis and "tuk tuks", etc are run by a local-type mafia with controlled fare structures and prices are expensive. You're much better off staying in Phang-nga or Krabi. The local "tuk tuk" drivers are hostile and aggressive. It is common for the drivers to assault tourists who refused to pay their inflated fares and/or may become involved with a minor traffic accident or altercation with a local. It's a complete "free-for-all" and the police will literally stand by and watch. Avoid Patong and the touristed areas by all means as they're dangerous. Many incidents regarding tourists are...
