Train from Thailand to Malaysia

by Maggah

From Bangkok to the south of Thailand there are several trains a day. You can either book at the station itself or in one of the myriad travel agencies in the road to the right of (when you're facing) Hualamphuong station.Food & drink are available on the train - my main meal bought from a vendor cost 50 baht! Take a bottle of water & a plastic cup for when you brush your teeth. Keep a little hand towel close by. There was loo roll in the toilets but it's always handy to have your own.I was going to Singapore via Malaysia's Jungle Railway, so was heading for Songai Kolok & on to Kota Bahru in Malaysia. The 20-hour, 917 Baht trip was VERY comfortable in the air-conditioned sleeper carriage. Ask for the lower bunk - you get the window, plus it's wider!! The 2 seats fold out to make the bunk. Non air-conditioned was like a sauna (August). The Malaysian border is over good mile away from the...

bus BKK airport to Ko Samet

by bulldogtwo

Buses to Pattaya from Bangkok airportFrom Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport there are three buses a day to Pattaya, departing at 09.00, 11.00 and 17.00, and taking one hour. From Pattaya bus terminal to the airport buses depart at 09:00, 12.00 and 19:00. Phone: (0) 2132 1888 (Suvarnabhumi Airport) for more detailed information. These depart from the Airport Transportation Centre, you should enquire at the information desk on arrival for specific directions to the transfer pick up point outside the main terminal building. Buses arrive and then depart again from the main Pattaya bus station. From Pattaya you will have to get another bus to Ko Samet but that should be easy and it shouldn't take more than 45 min to an hour depending on stops.Good luck

Domestic Flights within Thailand

by GracesTrips

When we go to Thailand later this year, we will be flying into Bangkok (of course) from LAX. After spending a few days in Bangkok, we will be traveling to Krabi. There are two airports in Bangkok. The Don Muang Airport (DMK) operates these local airlines:Thai Airways http://www.thaiairways.com/index.htmlNok Air http://www.nokair.com/NokConnext/aspx/Welcome.aspxOne-Two-Go http://www.fly12go.com/andThe Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is the Bangkok International Airport that operates these local airlines:Thai Airways http://www.thaiairways.com/index.htmlBangkok Airways http://www.bangkokair.com/en/index.phpAir Asia http://www.airasia.com/site/en/home.jspI don't know this for a fact but was a tip from another VTer that you should not carry on any food during your domestic flight because they want to sell you their own snacks/food while your on the flight. Something to keep in mind.

Take the Plane vs. Train

by lauren6

We had only 2 weeks in Thailand but decided to take an overnight train between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. A picture of our first class sleeper is included. If you have lots of time to get around that one's thing, or if you want to see Thailand in the day time by train. Travel by air is 1 hour between these cities and on AirAsia the same cost (actually a bit less).

Tuk-Tuk - Don't be Afraid

by lauren6

I read so many stories about being weary of tuk-tuks. I believe in trying everything while traveling (well almost everything)! If you negotiate before you get in, the tuk-tuks (named that because of what the old engines used to sound like) are a great way to get around and they are abundant.

Getting around Bangkok

by lauren6

Taking the water taxi and skytrain are easy and cheap. The water taxi cost 20 bhat each way and is an opportunity to cool off. The skytrain was 40 bhat from one end of the system to the other. It is clean and simple to use. The announcements of stops are in both English and Thai.

Getting from BKK International Airport to Bangkok

by lauren6

There are many services that try to sell you in advance transportation from the airport into the city (around 30-45 minute trip). As a first time traveler to the country and I arrived very late (midnight) I want to tell everyone to skip those tempting offers and use the public taxi stand outside of the airport. It is less than a 1/4 of the price. The taxis run on meters and it cost me $10 with the toll charges when the highway was taken.

Flying around Thailand is easy and saves time

by Snipernurse

If your trip to Thailand is restricted by time, flying through the country is very easy and saves time. The domestic flights in Bangkok are very nice, serves meals (even if they are only a little more than an hour long) and are comfortable. Go online to see if it fits in your budget. Costs approx 100-150$ for most domestic flights in Thailand

Patong taxi's

by bulldogtwo

You should not have any trouble getting a taxi from the airport to Patong. There is a taxi stand just outside the doors as you exit the airport to the right. Shouldn't cost more than 600-700 baht, maybe a bit more now becuz of the fuel prices but that's what it used to be.

Flights from Toronto to Bangkok

by sarahreynold

If you are flying from Toronto to Thailand without going through Europe there is a daily Emirates flight non stop from Toronto to Dubai and from there Emirates have I think 3 flights a day non stop to Bangkok. Their flights are timed to connect wherever possible so you should be able to do Toronto-Dubai-Bangkok quite easily.Another airline from Toronto is Etihad that will fly you non stop from Toronto to Abu Dhabi and then continue with tyhem to Bangkok. Both are ecellent airlines, I would say Etihad has the edge over Emirates, but both very good. But Emirates has more onwatd flights to Bangkok. From NYC Emirates has 2 flights a day non stop to Dubai, and then those onwards connections to Bangkok. Etihad also from NYC and also QatarAirways ( also very good ) and they both have direct flights to their Gulf hubs and then onwards to Bangkok ( Qatar via Doha and Etihad via Abu Dhabi ).You can...
