The Plov Center

Plov is an excellent rice dish somewhat local to the area, and the Center for Plov seemed to be the place to go to get it. We read that they had many different types of plov, and that, on Thursdays, it was packed with men... as plov is an aphrodesiac. I can't vouch for that, per se, but it wasn't packed, nor did they have all sorts of plov. A bit disappointing. But they did have a refreshing juice drink made, no doubt, from the local water...

Two images.

Reasonable and tasty Korean restaurant: Kim's House

A few minutes from Ming Orick/Oybek metro station on Afrosiab Street leading to Korean Embassy, there is a Korean Restaurant called Kim's House. It is a little bit en route location from the pedestrian way of Afrosiab Street.

It was opened in 2005, and they serve tasty Korean foods. So far it is best Korean restaurant for me.

They have some menu for one person which are some mixed with Japanese title but it is actually Korean foods. These are 8,000-10,000 Sum. I like tofu dish and other typical rice dish in a pot. They also serve some fish dishes which is slightly expensive than other dishes. Grilled meet are more expensive and it is for some people.

Try it!

Bukhara Cafe

I do not know actual name of the restaurant, but I was told that it is Bukhara Cafe. They serve fried fish (river fish) and other typical Uzbekistan dishes. It is recommended to order fried fish only in winter.

They do not have visiting card so I do not know the location. I remember that it is near Mirabod Bazar on Nuks Street. Perhaps local people knows it.

Spice at TATA Hotel: Golden Fried Prawns and Dimsums are great

Spice and Red Bar are located on the 2nd Floor of the famous Hotel Le Grande Plaza (popularly known as TATA Hotel) Its a speciality restaurant offering world class Pan Asian and Indian Food. It has a great business lunch package and can accomodate English speaking guests very well. The ambience is tasteful and music very soft and unintruding, which is most unusual for most places in Tashkent. You will encounter amongst the guests many an Ex pat or Diplomats of different nationalities. The service is great and staff is English speaking too. Menus in English are easily available. A must visit for me on every trip to this city, in fact I happened to be there on Valentine's day and it was a wonderful evening with authentic English live singing. Not a very expensive place too, the business lunch is 9.99 USD and similarly one can dine at dinner at around this per head price, provided you order carefully.

Favorite Dish: Golden fried prawns were one of the best I have ever had anywhere across the globe. Indian Tandoori Kebabs are excellent too. Thai red curry is great! The menu is quite wide and the captains and chef usually are quite helpful in choosing the menu. Ask for Igor or Deshbir.
