  • Metro in Tashkent

Metro stations in Tashkent are art works in their own right. Splendidly decorated and absolutely spotless, and a cool place to escape to from the summer heat.
There are three subway lines in Tashkent now, and I can say that this is one of the most convenient kinds of transport.
    Subway starts work from 6.00 a.m till 12.00 p.m.

    Tashkent station Express-3 code = 2900001

by GyuriFT Written Sep 17, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If anyone tries to look up the schedule, trains, berth availability on Express-3 Russian reservation system in 99% of cases nothing will come up for Tashkent.

This is simply because a city is not the same thing as a station and the Express-3 reservation system is very picky.

Instead of trying all kind of combinations in Cyrillic to satisfy the Express-3 there is also a hidden numeric code assigned to every possible and impossible station all over Eurasia.

The code for Tashkent is 2900001

The code for Moscow Kazanskiy station where the trains to U.B. do depart is by the way 2000003

Very nice, modern train station. There is a hotel on the front side of the hotel (just to the left before you walk in the main entrance). Just as a word of warning, they have no showers, though it all looked clean enough (August 2008).

Anyway, if you're a foreigner, you can enter through the main doors and you'll find ticket windows on either side. Don't go to either of those, but turn right and walk through a small, short corridor just before the ticket window on the right and a room opens up with more ticket windows. That's the second image. They can take care of you. Note the woman on the right who is just to eager to try to cut in in front of my wife...

There are three lines of Metro in Tashkent and the fare is 200 Sum. You will buy token at each station. Taking photography is prohibited and national securities stay at each station and platform. Interior of some stations are beautiful.

  • from Khojand, (TJ), then on to Tashkent

by jkseddon Written Oct 3, 2004

Get a taxi to the Uzbek border from just about 1km north of the massive Lenin statue. It costs 20 somoni to the border -- just under $7US. The trip takes about 50 minutes and the border formalities are pretty straightforward.
From the border to Tashkent the taxis will quote $15US but the bus will cost just $1 (I paid with a $1 bill; there are no changers at this crossing!)
When you walk out of customs, walk about 400m beyond the gate and you'll hit the highway. Tashkent is north (to the right), 90km away
