Vietnam in a nutshell
by call_me_rhia
Vietnam is actually the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, although it is not easy to see "real" socialism, there. It's a long and narrow country, heavily populated (about 85 million people) very varied and with many interesting sights: old cities, impressive monuments and museums, high mountains, pristine beaches and islands, slow peaceful rivers and even some sand dunes.
What I liked best in Vietnam - sights aside - was seeing very little "real" poverty and beggars. While very few people are rich, the "poor" majority does not live in desperate conditions: although money is tight, most have a house to live in, and simple food to eat. I would say that most people, especially in the countryside, have a modest life but at least they also have the very basic to survive.
