Reliable Travel Agency in HCMC

by WStat

Recently I used Saigontourist as reliable travel-agency; they arranged several tours and also a Mekong-Delta tour with a small group (I think, those tours leave daily) and also the Saigon-hotel at competitive prices. To be recommended !http://www.saigontourist.net/english/ Asia as it once must have been; hurry up, it won`t last long that way !

to and from the airport

by christof2

Hi , I can answer some of your Question $35 each way is huge especially as i was only paying $10 a night for a great room. When u walk out of the airport it is pretty crazy but there are the offical taxis there which will be far cheaper or u can share a shuttle and or the unoffical taxis whom u can bargain with and shop around. Also u can change inside the airport for some vietnamese dong so it wouldnt hurt to change and pay in dong and remember no way should u pay $35 even $20us for your taxi. Have a great trip and it will be hot!! chris As well i actually travelled by local bus from the airport it cost me $2000 dong ..nothing and was a great ride and they were helpful.

Travel agencies who impress

by JohanIsWeg

We used a number of agents during our Vietnam vacation: in HCMC we were very impressed with the professionalism of the budget travel agency Sinh Cafe (make sure it is the genuine one; check out http://www.sinhcafevn.com/AboutUs.asp).We did the 2-day Mekong Delta as well as Cao Dai/Cu Chi Tunnels with them. The guides were very approachable and knowledgeable. Provided water and snacks on the bus. The overnight tour included accommodation in an adequate hotel in Can Tho. Duc, the tour guide to Cao Dai/Cu Chi, even stopped the bus to allow us photos of rice paddies and Black Lady Mountain, which signifies the border with Cambodia. The bus is comfortable and air-conditioned. They even give you a nice blue t-shirt with Sinh Cafe logo on the front and map of Vietnam on the back! Bus departs from their HCMC offices in De Tham Street, which is the backpacker district and close to scores of...

safety

by JonnyVN

This question is asked a lot on VT, in my opinion Vietnam is one of the safest place I have lived. The only trouble that you might have is someone pinching your bag, but then thats the same in just about any country in the world. Vietnam has a number of times been voted the safest country in the world.Be a little more cautious in Cambodia, again its getting thing nicked being the biggest problem.Jonny

PRETEXT

by Nhiki

Newly declassified US documents reaffirm that the then North Vietnam did not attack American warships in the Bac Bo (Tonkin) Gulf in 1964. The fabricated attack was used as a pretext by then president Lyndon Johnson to extend the war into northern Vietnam. The declassified report was made available by the National Security Agency that is responsible for much of the US's code breaking and eavesdropping.

visa to china

by eliteone

I did this personally like most other travellers and found u need to be early ,about 7 am even though gates dont open till 9am. you will encounter the rudeness of the locals and chinese blatantly jumping the queue and before u know your place which was about 10 now is 50.theres is not much u can do,they ignore you, security guard turns a blind eye and u accept it.NOT ME.. i apologised to the other tourist and went straight into the front 10 again pushing my way past the culprits and ignoring the digs at me. |I had my flight booked and no way was i missing my visa allocation for later that day manners, queues and the false pretense of new local freinds.

Vietnam in a nutshell

by call_me_rhia

Vietnam is actually the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, although it is not easy to see "real" socialism, there. It's a long and narrow country, heavily populated (about 85 million people) very varied and with many interesting sights: old cities, impressive monuments and museums, high mountains, pristine beaches and islands, slow peaceful rivers and even some sand dunes. What I liked best in Vietnam - sights aside - was seeing very little "real" poverty and beggars. While very few people are rich, the "poor" majority does not live in desperate conditions: although money is tight, most have a house to live in, and simple food to eat. I would say that most people, especially in the countryside, have a modest life but at least they also have the very basic to survive.

19 Jan 2007 Finally leaving ***ty HANOI!!!!!!!!!!!WOO HOO!!!!! Category: Travel and Places I was SO PISSED OFF when I got back from Halong Bay! My hotel promised me they would have a room for me when I got back, but they gave my room to someone else! When I asked them where else I could go, they just laughed and said, "I dont know"! How crap is that!!!??!!! That is unfortunaltely Hanoi way! I hope the rest of Vietnam isnt so ruthless! I am going to "Hue" tomorrow, which is one of the oldest cities in Vietnam. I designed a red velvet floor length jacket and went and got it tailormade today. I had to keep arguing with the shop lady to do it the way I wanted, because she kept saying, "I dont think it will look good like that." "I dont think you should have it like that, it will look strange" etc. I was getting SO ANNOYED! In the end when they finished the final product she said, "I didnt...

Currency

by hydronetta

Vietnamese currency is Dong which comes out in paper bank notes. I used mainly 100.000, 50.000, 20.000, 10.000, 5.000, 2.000, 1.000 and 500 paper notes , but in some cases coins were given as well.In March 2007 the exchange rate was 1€= 21.000 Dongs. There was not black market and money were exchanged even in some cases in shops according to the official exchange rate.Euros and US$ are happily accepted. This was not always the case with Thai Baht.Do be careful. Dongs are made of some sort of slippery paper and it was very easy to count them wrongly... Of course Uncle Ho is in every note!!
