Things to Do

Markets of Sapa

Markets of Sapa, Lao Chai

stedeb Says:  Sapa market is a great place to take a stroll. It is quite busy but not like some of the markets in Hanoi or HCM. There are many different people in traditional dress doing buying of local produce they also sell a lot of silver. The silver bangles make great inexpensive...

Dragon Head

Dragon Head, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  Can you see the shape of the Dragon's Head? I had to take this photo in a hurry, that fog was so fast!

Ham Rong Mountain 2

Ham Rong Mountain 2, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  A quick peek at the blue sky through the fog... =)

Ham Rong Mountain

Ham Rong Mountain, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  You have to pay a small entrance fee, but the mountain is quite nice, with some well marked paths, and nice rock formations..

Rolling Fog

jujub Says:  A quick walk from Sapa, you can have access to a lookout to see Fan Si Pan -- the country's tallest peak.

Hotels

Chau Long Sapa Hotel: Hotel in Sapa

Chau Long Sapa Hotel: Hotel in Sapa, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  The brochure looked a lot better, but then again, we were just glad that the hotel was clean -- as you can tell by the sign on the toilet. Rooms and bathroom were clean, thick, warm blankets, and electric heaters. Hot water in the bathroom at all times, but, like most hotels...

Local Customs

White Thai Dance

White Thai Dance, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  Here is a performance by the White Thai people, much similar to the Korean fan dance. They are considered to be one of the most beautiful minorities around Sa Pa.

jujub Says:  There's the river at the bottom, where all this water trickles to slowly..

Much More Rice Paddies

jujub Says:  Unveiling of the fog... =)

Flower in the Mud

Flower in the Mud, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  Not sure what these yellow flowers enclosed inside this stone wall are, but thought they added some drastic splash of color into the scenery. Also, if you notice on the left side of the wall, there is a lady in there...

Muddy Rice Paddies

Muddy Rice Paddies, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  Brown rice.. eheheheehahahhahaakidding! The rice paddies are engineered into stepped terraces, with little outlets for the water to trickle down onto the next one, until it reaches the bottom... it's amazing when the whole side of the mountain is covered with them!!

Bamboo Bridge

Bamboo Bridge, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  We were in awe of the local kids crossing this bridge: they walked on top of it as if the bamboos didn't roll as you stepped on them! It's not even that high, there is a small stream under it, but the bamboos kind of move as you step on them.. yeah, i know, city folks......

Muddy Trek

Muddy Trek, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  There's Mr. Hung leading the pack, followed by Mike and Ashley. Mr. Hung hooked us up with some bamboo sticks to be used as trekking poles (we had to return them on the way back to his friend). He was also courteous enough to offer us plastic boots, which i gladly borrowed,...

Rice Paddy

Rice Paddy, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  Each day will bring you to a new place. You are surrounded by rice paddies, but they all do not look alike. Our morning looked pretty gloom, as we woke up and all we saw was... fog. But cheery Mr. Hung took us down the mountain nonetheless, and even though we couldn't see 10...

Water Buffalo

Water Buffalo, Lao Chai

jujub Says:  As you trek through the mud (in our case), you will encounter lots of water buffalos and their poop. Lots of them. Lots of water buffalos. Lots of poop. But it's all organic!! ;)It was so peaceful to watch this huge beast munch on the greens!!
