Mai Chau Travel Guide

The food offered is white thai dishes rather than vietnamese. Rice is stickier. rice wine is heady, and head ache producer. coffee sachets imported from singapore rather than the caphe sua da of vietnamese.

Favorite Dish: More than the food, I enjoyed talking to 18 year old Ha Thi Tu. They even have a telephone one could call and make reservations!

Favorite thing: Most travel agencies in Hanoi offer a two day one night trip to the mai chau region with the stay in an indigenous housing. Talking to an articulate young white thai girl, she wondered why westerners brave the bad roads to mai chau, sleep in discomfort and eat food which is not as good as viet food! I told her, you are exotic for the european.. for her, europeans were the exotic ones, she would prefer a nice viet meal,m stay in a nice hotel in hanoi and travel, hopefuly she would one day, rather than cater for the tourist as an exotic attraction

Fondest memory: I was with my brother. all the streets wer lined with handicrafts of local manufacture or all sorts. I really enjoyed bargaining with them. ( being a Mizrachi, I am sure it is in our blood to bargain!) The walk along the paddy fields and looking for Ma River.
