A beautiful beach you won't want to leave!

by worldkiwi

Phu Quoc Island is acclaimed for its beautiful beaches. While the beach is picturesque on the west coast, the water is not all that inviting. However, on the east coast, over thirty kilometres away by road, lies beautiful Bai Sao. On the day I decided to go beach sightseeing, I had chosen to visit Bai Kem, which gets a fantastic write up in the Lonely Planet I had. However, everytime I asked how to get there I was told it was closed because there's a military base there. Very exsaperating. However, Bai Sao was recommended as a good alternative. One dusty motorbike ride later, I was there. Not only is the sand white and floury, the water is turquoise and clear. I spent a relaxing and enjoyable few hours here before continuing on my exploration of Phu Quoc on the back of a motorbike! See my Phu Quoc page for more info and pics.

Cu Chi Tunnels 2

by iwys

Both Kim Cafe and Sinh Cafe run half-day trips to the Cu Chi Tunnels. The one I took departed Kim Cafe at 8.20 am and returned at 2 pm. It cost US$4, excluding the tunnel entrance fee of 65,000 VND.During the trip, you sit down to watch a North Vietnamese propaganda film, made in 1967, see a variety of Vietcong booby traps, B52 bomb craters and a destroyed US tank. And, of course, you get to crawl through the tunnels.

The long and winding road - Chau Doc

by mad4travel

We only really stayed at Chau Doc as it was a convenient jumping off point for the cambodian border. However it turned out to be a very friendly town with interesting markets and a general feel of everyone going about their business. We hired bike rickshaws to takes us out of town to a nearby hill to watch the sunset. Apparantly its where the locals come for a spot of exercise - they must be fit is all I can tell you. The top of the hill is 2km straight up a winding road, -it nearly killed me!You can get taxis to take you up there. At least the walk down is'nt too bad and the kids will all come out of their houses to say hello and practise their English.

LINH SON PAGODA,near Dalat

by manil51

Established in 1938, Linh Son Pagoda features a massive bell made of bronze and gold. Despite its obvious value, the sheer weight of the bell is said to make it too heavy to be stolen - and who would steal from a pagoda anyway! The pagoda is about 1km from the center of Da Lat. There are coffee and tea plants behind the pagoda.

PRENN WATERFALL,around Dalat

by manil51

Prenn Falls is one of the largest and loveliest falls in the Da Lat area, with an elevation of 1,124m (3,687 feet). Prenn Falls has a path under a rock ledge from where you can view the pool below and the surrounding scenery through the veil of cascading water, making for interesting photography. The sheer volume of water sometimes closes the path after a rainstorm.

Cho Da Lat or Da Lat Market

by manil51

Coming to the central market of the city, you will be bewildered with a riot of multi-colored flowers as well as various kinds of fresh vegetable and mouthwatering fruits. Also, lacquerware, back packs, and hill-tribe handicrafts are sold here. In the morning, you can see the Montagnards carrying their goods and trading with stall holders.

Xuan huong lake,Dalat

by manil51

Xuan Huong is beautiful lake, and is located in the centre of Dalat city. It is 5sq.km, in the shape of a crescent moon. The surface of the lake is as smooth as glass with the reflection of the surrounding pine trees. The road around the lake is also encompassed by pine trees.Visitors can enjoy pedal boating on the lake.

Valley of love, near Dalat

by manil51

About 5 km from Dalat's centre to the North, the Valley of Love is ringed by hilly slopes covered with pines. Under King Bao Dai the valley was called Hoa Binh (Peace). In 1972 Da Thien lake was created in the valley. As a result of this enhancement, the valley has become even more poetic and seductive and has attracted countless visitors and, of course, lovers.

Longson Pagoda,Nha Trang

by manil51

Longson Pagoda erected only in 1963, is dedicated to Buddhist monks and nuns, who, in the time of the Diem presidency, had doused themselves with gasoline and set themselves on fire in protest against the policies of the government.
