Travel light...

by amares

Don't pack too much! If flying into Hanoi, you could literally travel with the clothes on your back and then buy what you need for far cheaper than what you'd pay back home. Especially if you're planning a stop at Hoi An, the tailoring capital of Vietnam. All of the regular stuff is available in major cities Film is cheap in HCMC and Hanoi, as is photo development The one thing that is hard to get cheap are books. Although English-language novels are easy to find, second-hand books are more expensive than in the West.

Monsoon

by SirRichard

If you come between June and september, you will find monsoon season, this meaning rain every afternoon or so, but the temperature is still high, and the weather is humid and hot.I found little umbrellas to be more suitable than plastic anoraks, as with these you sweat a lot and get as wet as if U had been under the rain... LOL

Dong, Viet money

by SirRichard

The Dong is the official money there, though you can manage with US dollars eveywhere. You can even pay in the shops with dollars, though they will give you back the change in dongs. There are ATM machines in Saigon and in Hanoi, but I saw little (if any) in the other big cities... 1 USD = 15,333.00 VND

Seeing the nature by foot

by Chrissy76

If you want to visit to waterfalls, get a good pair of shoes with you. You may want to climb higher, and getting 100 metres high in the side of the waterfall with sandals on the feet is not too pleasant... Also take into consideration snakes and other "not-so-friendly" animals.

Hot, cool, dust...

by Chrissy76

In Sai Gon in January is hot, over +30C and no cooling wind. In Nha Trang however the wind cools the air, and the evenings are chilly. Also, either take enough clothes or be prepared to wash them often. I was moving around only by motorbike - the dust everywhere is enormous!! White and light clothes are absolutely wrong if you attend to drive by motorbike.

Don't bring your life with it

by minhphat01

-Bag -Undies-Pair of shoes -Bandaid? -Camera...or whatever gadgets you wanna lug over there.-Just a cheap digital camera is all I needed!...in case it get lost or stolen and I won't have to hurt my back in working and replacing it.(cheap digital camera=<100 bucks) Plenty these days. Do you Yahoo! ...shopping? -Nada...-If you need sun blockers...bring a bottle since ALL of those things and anything in bottle in Vietnam are fakes....you can get nice sun glasses from the super market also. They're ok depend on prices. Nothing else....all of my clothing needs that I used to bring over there were totally not it!Like clothings from the US just aint for the weather over there man. It's tooooo humid and hot....you sweat like crazy you think I'd wear Jeans? I went out and bought local clothes at dirt cheap prices...then dumped them there when I returned to the US.Last time, I brought so...

Keep it simple

by jmmorgan

Strong and above all durable. When touring your luggage will take a real pounding. Light cottons are best. Take one set of smarter casual clothing for going to posh restaurants or hotels otherwise buy what you need or have it made while you are there. Larger sizes are not always available off the peg. Comfortable and durable walking shoes are a must. Wet weather gear is cheap and readily available when it starts to rain. Available everywhere Bring as much as you can carry. A good SLR plus lenses is vital. Film available but may not always be fresh.

Gotta have that silk slip

by ScottForster

A silk slip to sleep in. get one in Vietnam. Don't buy on from home . They are cheap-as over there. Ah. Clothing can be difficult. The lads can live in board shorts and collared shirts. I prefer to wear poly/nylon and wash frequently. Cotton stinks and soats up sweat. Take a thermal for Sapa I lived on the pbare essentials. Didn't take Malaria tablets. but know of a friend who got very sick in Cambodia. I took a digital video/ DSC camera. It was great for the sounds and recording the motorbile trips. Stay in a hotel and enjoy it. Bought a backpack there which was handy.

Packing List

by utttz

the best thing to bring to vietnam is absolutely nothing a part money. Flying naked to vietnam and than buying everything there from bags to dresses and shoes is definitely the thing to do. You can find every kind and brand of bags, backpacs, suitcases, dresses, shoes and guidebook for almost nothing... maybe they're just a bit fake, but the quality is definitely good. remember that vietnam is not tailand... 'beach clotes', short throusers, singlets and stuff like that are considered not appropriates. No one will stop you, but with a bit of attention you'll easily feel the people around thinking at you as a barbarian. it's not actually a problem I had, but it seems that tampoons are almpost impossible to find. films are quite inexpensive here

Packing List

by UScutie

-Yes, VN is country has everything with cheap cost BUT BE AWARE :99% is low quality ,so if you don't mind (hurt your feet )then don't need pack shoes ,T-shirt ,short or medicine...ect. You can through it or give away for poor people there when you are back home.-But if you are taller than 5'11 then need bring shoes (no shoes have large size) .If you were size XL then need bring clothes,no size for this. ****PLEASE ALWAYS BRING MOSQUITO REPELLENT with you because VN is humid country so mosquitos are everywhere .Buy mosquito repellent in Vn doesn't help and affect .Bring your own.In US bring OFF product work so well overthere. -If you plan go to North VN or moutain or central high land ( Dalat ) bring light Jacket ,it's should be enought.-Otherwise bring many shorts and T-shirt to make you comfortable because VN is tropical country ,always humid and hot ,so it make you will sweatting all...
