Take as little as possible! Clothes are cheap, all of our hotels did laundry and most of us found we both t-shirts as we went along. Also, Hoi An is a great place to get clothes tailor made. Do not forget to take some waterproofs - Vietnam is a wet country and although it is warm when it rains, wearing wet trousers is not my idea of fun!

Backpacks are decent, but fairly easy to steal off your back. Rolling luggage is popular. For the weather, be sure to buy some of the rain gear they sell in Vietnam. It is cheap and will probably last for your stay. Life goes on as normal when it rains there. People don't run inside. Bring Cipro and a stomach neutralizer like Lomodel. Also, drink rice wine to kill bugs. Tee hee. Cameras and film. Duh.

Backpack, always the backpack. Hiking Film isnt easy to get in rural areas, so bring your owns. In some tourist places film is for sale, but propably the films has been in the sunshine for weeks/months/years and unrefrigerated. The quality isnt best, i think. Chewing gum and pens, if you want to see happy childrens! We were in the floating village, and landed in the nearby village. The children(about 20 or so)surrounded us, and asked some chewing gum and pens. I didnt had any extra pens, but i luckily had a lot of chewing gum in my bag. You should have seen the faces!

Bring lots of mosquito repellent, medications, antibiotics, fresh water, and a straw conical hat. Pack your suitcase with fancy glass bottles as gifts for the locals. Bring lots of travelers cheques (low denominations), and little cash. There are few banks outside of very large cities. Bring lots of goodies for the kids, and buy whatever you'll need there. Buy everything that you'll need in Ho Chi Minh city (formerly Saigon) or Hanoi. Mosquito netting to place around your bed is mandatory. Boots and long raincoats are a must if traveling during the monsoon season, but avoid it at any cost. Dust masks for the dry season, lots of deodorant, and cologne to mask some of the odors that may be apparent. See above, but I emphasize the need for mosquito protection and lots of antibiotics for the car wash. Batteries may not be available at all outside of the larger cities, as well as any...

As always with southeast Asia, bring sunscreen and insect spray (with DEET). Especially with the sunscreen, I was glad I had it. Also, if you are going to be shipping anything home, bring your own bubble wrap as shipping supplies are hard to come by.

things to bring along..

a medium sized backpack should be sufficient for a 3 week trip here.. just bring a few light clothings.. buy the rest here.. it's really cheap.. t-shirts can go for around usd1.. there are amazing tailors in hoi an that can sew up anything as long as you have the pic or can describe to them and it's all done in a matter of hours.. generally toiletries and medical supplies are easy to get in the big cities.. just have the basic with you.. medication for bad tummy may be a good idea if you're planning to be adventurous with food.. another idea, they have almost any creature soaked in wine for all sorts of medicinal puposes.. try it if u dare? ;) having spare film and battery at hand will save you the time of hunting for one when you need it.. it's not difficult to get it in the cities but it might just decide to give way up in the mountains or out in the waters.. ;) if you're planning...

You can find some backpack there at a very interesting price. Some advices tell you that you should bring Lariam... First, this is very strong and can waste your trip with all the second effects. And, in november I saw only 3 mosquitos !!!

Green dragon fruit. (Thanh Long). This is the fruit where you can see by the roadside when you are in Vietnam. Try it. The plant itself looks like a 5 ft tall cactus but in umbrella shape and the fruit is in fire-red color, beautiful.
