Saigon Indian Resturant: Good Indian food in Saigon

by Marthamaire

Once or twice a year, I go off my largely vegetarian diet to eat my favorite dish, Saag Lamb. Mike, a fellow member of Virtual Tourist is an American who has lived in Saigon for several years. Although he doesn’t like Indian food, he was kind enough to accompany me to the” Saigon Indian Restaurant.” I had pulau (rice and peas) and garlic Nan. Both excellent. (If you like good Nan, this is the place to go. They have a large selection.) The palak curry left something to be desired – the sauce was wonderful but the lamb was tough and fatty. I took one bite and left the rest of the meat on the plate. Mike had sweet corn chicken soup which he said was not spicy and very good. The ambience was pleasant and with a beer for me and a fruit drink for Mike, the total bill came to around $14.00 I only ate here once so I cannot adequately answer this question,

Quan Bui: Eat the best Vietnamese cuisine at cheap prices !

by Erzgy

Quan Bui is a new restaurant with 2 floors and a balcony on the edge of the central district (District 1). The food is authentic, contains no MSG or added sugar and is very fresh and well put together. The ambience is very inviting (chic black tables and traditional Vietnamese earthenware plates and bowls) and the staff are very friendly. The owner, Mr Danh, speaks perfect English but his staff less so (enough to communicate). The chef clearly has a lot of experience in using many different herbs and spices to bring out the flavours of the food - although the joy of the restaurant is the simplicity of the food. The menu is quite extensive - with dishes from around Vietnam (eg hot pots, crispy spring rolls, excellent seafood, sauteed chicken/pork/beef dishes, braised sea fish and garden vegetables). I have eaten there a number of times and would put it on a par with Hoa Tuc (a much longer...

Good morning Vietnam: Hoi An restaurants

by call_me_rhia

Everyone raves about restaurants in Hoi An... we came with great culinary expectations, and were really disappointed: indiffernt food of low quality almost all over. One notable exception is the Good morning Vietnam, although it mainly serves Italian food. The people are friendly and the owner, Massimo, helpful. Just don't talk politics with him, he's quite angry with the entire world. Special of the day, when we went, was a swordfish carpaccio, meaning raw sword-fish slices... delicious, but not for those who can't eat garlic, as they surely abounded. I loved it. My husband had some more conventional pasta with shrimps.. he quite liked the added spoonful of caviar on top.A good meal... only slightly pricier than other restaurant in town, but ten thousands times better

Temple Club: A nice night out

by sunnysarah

We arrived here late at night b/c we had no idea where it was, not even a real address. It was pouring rain and we were running around asking people. Of course no one knew where it was but gave us directions anyways....It is upstairs and the door isn't obvious.Becasue it was late we didn't have alot of time to order and just ordered some basic chicken adn rice dish. It was all really good though, and I imagine it would be nice to spend a few hours there with some wine. When we were there the room next to us had been rented out for a xmas party. The waiter suggested that instead of trying to talk over the noise we join in (he also let us know it was an open bar) We crashed it, but didn't stay too long. I was jet lagged and tired.

Quan An Ngon: Busy local restaurant

by meccostaud

This is a cavernous restaurant that was jam-packed when we arrived for lunch. We were led through a warren of tables, with what appeared to be business people eating lunch, and past a long row of tables piled with foodstuffs with women cooking behind them. We ordered several dishes, including green papaya salad with dried beef, and a grilled pork chop dish that contained a couple of unidentifiable ingredients. Everything was very good. I ordered a sapodilla shake from the juice bar, and it was the most delicious shake I've ever had. I had to order another one. You gotta get one of these when you go.

Nam Phan: Beautiful and Elegant Dining in Saigon

by meccostaud

This is a beautifully elegant restaurant with sublime food and service. The dining rooms are small and cozy, with a very romantic atmosphere.I highly recommend this restaurant both for the wonderful food and service. I had squid stuffed with meat in a tomato-based sauce. It was fantastic, one of the best dishes I had in Vietnam. Also recommended is the crab and corn soup. Everything you order here will be wonderful.

KOTO - stands for "Know One, Teach One": Give a lot get a lot.

by nicbac

Apart from great food and fantastic service the thing that sets Koto apart from other restaurants is that it is staffed by street kids. The restaurant was opened by a Vietnamese Australian who now uses Koto as a training facility for street kids. The guidelines for working there are fairly strict but the kids seem to love the chance to better themselves and the service here was great. We ate there for lunch and had some great sandwiches and a fruit shake.

Pho Bo soup

by SirRichard

This meat soup was my favourite dish in Vietnam. Is very popular here for dinner... and breakfast!!! (I only tried it for dinner).Pho means "your own bowl" or something similar. Bo is the word for "Boeuf", so this one is the meat one, but there are also variations with veggies...You get a whole bowl of soup with a selection of crisp fresh vegetables and herbs in different plates and you add what U want to the soup, besides some sauces (soy, tabasco...) and lime juice. It made my dinners in several occasions, and is soooo cheap! For the recipe, look at the web below.

Vinh Hung 3: Good, (more) continental breakfast in Hôi An

by elbe

The breakfast is more continental than in other hotels and was, I must admit (how embarrassing!), the best I’ve eaten in Vietnam. The service was very polite like in every hotel we’ve been in Vietnam. Good juice, good food, choose from a small but good buffet with things we haven't get in other restaurants.
